"Secondly, so what if the Gu Family and the Jing Family had a plan to achieve union through marriage, they can still carry on with it. I am not stopping them.

If you wish to align yourself with that group of people, suit yourself. However, Mai Qi is my good friend, I will not leave her no matter what. Jing Tian is my future husband, he is the man I will love for the rest of my life. There is nothing that will change that."

I stood up to leave. Mrs. Mai's voice turned shrill. "You're not afraid of losing everything that you have today?"

She looked at me fiercely. "What about your little uncle's life?"

The smile on my face faded.

I smiled but the smile didn't reach my eyes. I really didn't want to waste my anger on such a foolish woman.

"Madam, did you use your own people to investigate me and my uncle, or someone just fed you the news?"

She didn't speak but her eyes hesitated.

"Dragon's Gate is just a motley crew of gangsters? That is the funniest joke I've heard in a long time. Madam, I'd advise you to get smarter. Don't believe everything people say, or you might die without knowing why! It doesn't matter if you die but it'll be a tragedy if you drag down Mai Qi and her father down with you!"
