A Choice

That night, I went looking for Jing Tian.1

I gave Jing Tian the number Qu Hao gave me and told him what happened during the day.

Jing Tian looked at the number and was silent for a moment. "Did you save it?"

"What?" I was confused as I looked at him. He reached for my phone and saved Qu Hao's number on it.

"If Mai Qi gets into trouble, call him as soon as possible," Jing Tian said.

"Eh? Shouldn't I call Mrs. Mai if Mai Qi is in trouble?" I was confused.

"Mrs. Mai will only bring more trouble. You are better off calling Qu Hao. He is the real problem solver." Jing Tian explained.

"Then, what about Mai Qi's father?" That man was a free get out of jail card.

Jing Tian smiled. "You have to gauge it yourself. In any case, Qu Hao will not let anything happen to his younger sister. You can't expect to use a hammer to smash an ant every time. Use your own judgment but don't worry, they have already entrusted Mai Qi to you." 

I toyed with my phone, and huffed, "But I can protect Mai Qi on my own. Do I need to rely on them?"

Jing Tian said, "This is their family business, you should let them sort it out, why waste your energy?" Even though I didn't quite get it, I nodded.

Jing Tian was working on some documents and I circled around him. "Is there anything else?" Jing Tian finally lifted his head to look at me. I sat down before him and asked, "Jing Tian, if you are forced to choose between me and Ardent Flame Alliance, which one will you choose?"

Jing Tian put down his documents to look at me. "So you want me to choose between you and Ardent Flame Alliance? I will choose you! I can go make the announcement now."

I quickly shook my head. "Wait, don't. I was just making an example, yes, just an example."

Jing Tian pulled me into his arms and tapped the tip of my nose. "Come on, what happened? Who did you meet?" 

I told him about my meeting with Ye Qian. Jing Tian muttered, "You better stay away from this woman." Jing Tian didn't have much interaction with Ye Qian, their paths didn't cross that often. Plus with Ye Qian's carefulness, she wouldn't dare say anything to offend Jing Tian, even if it was to help Gu Yan. Regardless, Jing Tian still had a very bad opinion of Ye Qian. 

I was confused by that because if I didn't have my memory from my previous life, I would have been swindled by Ye Qian already.

"Jing Tian, Ye Qian isn't that pretty but she has a great presence. But most importantly, she is very capable. I want to know why don't you like her? From a man's perspective, what is wrong with her?" I asked the question in my mind.

Jing Tian knocked on my forehead. "Do you mean I should like her?"

I held my forehead and cried out in pain. "Of course not! If you fall in love with her, I'll chop you into pieces!"

Jing Tian glared at me. "Did you just threaten me?!"

I giggled and kissed the corner of his lips. "Don't be mad. I was just having a discussion with you. I am surrounded by too many snakes, I'm afraid my brain is not bright enough to deal with all of them. Mr. Tong Le is too straightforward, his methods are not suitable for me. So you're my only teacher."

I wiggled in his arms.

"Nanxing, sit quietly and don't move! Or I'll throw you out of the room!" Jing Tian suddenly warned.

This sudden sternness stunned me but I quickly sat down obediently. "Well, will you teach me?"

Jing Tian looked at me and sighed. "Why did you ask me to choose between you and Ardent Flame Alliance earlier?" 

I blinked and answered, "Well, Ye Qian has planted that question in me. Of course, she didn't ask me that question outright but she did make an example of a situation where Jing Ning had to choose between her and the Jing Family. I can't help but make the comparison. But don't worry, I will not force you to make that choice."
