Ye Qian stirred the coffee and said plainly, "Gu Nian values Lu Yan very much."2

Then, there was no further explanation.

I added my own explanation, "It's because Lu Yan is very capable. After all, Lu Yan is the recipient of M University's highest scholarship. There's no doubt about her ability, so sister, don't worry about that." I was silent.

She kept looking outside the window.

"What will you do to those who threaten you?"

Ye Qian looked back and smiled. She said softly, "Naturally, I will eliminate everyone who dares to do so. I've worked so hard for what I have. Do you expect me to surrender just like that?"

I nodded. "That makes sense."

"Nanxing, talking to you always calms me down. It makes me feel good to be alive." Ye Qian's voice was very soft.

I was stunned. What kind of evaluation was that?

After Ye Qian left, I immediately had Su Qian send me the latest update on Lu Yan.

Even though Lu Yan had no working experience, she had the smarts. Furthermore, Gu Nian was looking for someone new. He wanted to cultivate his trusted aides from the ground up, so Lu Yan's inexperience worked to her advantage. Plus, Lu Yan's resourcefulness and cleverness greatly impressed Gu Nian. In this company, Gu Nian did not have much power. Otherwise, he wouldn't be given the difficult job of the president. It was a job with a big workload, but the reward would be shared by the Brothers. On top of that, he had to deal with Ye Qian, the ambitious vice-president who was always hungering after his spot.

However, Lu Yan's appearance had flustered Ye Qian. This was a pleasant surprise to Gu Nian. Gu Nian was a man, and Ye Qian was a tactful person who knew how to play the woman card. When Ye Qian had Gu Nian cornered, she would make sure that if he retaliated, it would look like Gu Nian was being misogynistic. 

However, Lu Yan was also a woman. Plus, this was a woman who knew where Ye Qian's weaknesses were.

After a few board meetings, Gu Nian noticed that Ye Qian was very careful around Lu Yan. Gu Nian didn't know why but he was glad to take advantage of this.

Therefore, before Lu Yan's one-month probation period was over, Gu Nian made an exception, and Gu Yan became his official assistant. Lu Yan now traveled between classes and her work daily. Gu Nian gave her a great deal of freedom at work. Lu Yan was very good at her job. She completed her school work and office work perfectly. She had no conflicts with her colleagues, and she cooperated flawlessly with Gu Nian. 

Lu Yan had taken a clear side by aligning with Gu Nian. Even though she was a mere assistant, she was a threat to Ye Qian as the vice president. This was quite bold, and Lu Yan surprised the entire company. 

Because of this, this new assistant alarmed the company's upper management and piqued Master Gu Er's interest.

However, Lu Yan was very loyal, and she couldn't care less about Master Gu Er. When Master Gu Er came to see Gu Nian without any appointment, Lu Yan refused to let the man in.
