The first scene to be filmed was that of the female lead, Zhou Pinyun, participating in the palace maiden selection and catching the attention of the emperor because of her good looks. That led to the empress paying more attention to her. 

During the selection, the empress appeared in a luxurious sartorial ensemble. Hence, it took two to three hours for Yan Jinyi's hair and makeup to be done. 

"Some people are just trying to throw their weight around. She's so violent and her fans are just like her. Look how long she took to get her hair and makeup done. She took more than hour than Liu Ran. Others might think she's the female lead instead." 

Xu Xiaoshan played a minister's daughter who had a close relationship with the female lead when she first entered the palace. However, during a power struggle to fight for the emperor's favor later on in the drama, she was poisoned to death by the empress. 

Yan Jinyi was already looking forward to filming that scene. 

'Is this woman forgetful? Has she not seen how incredible I was at the press conference?'

Yan Jinyi squinted and was ready to make a move when Liu Ran instantly pulled Xu Xiaoshan away. "Enough, Xiaoshan, cut it out. Jinyi is playing the empress so her makeup and clothing are definitely much more detailed."
