Seeing her reaction, he laughed anew and mumbled, "It's nice…"

"En? What's nice?" She looked at him perplexedly. This was when she realized that, after all these years that they had been apart, she still could not keep up with this once really close friend's thought processes.

"That you still care about me," he replied gently, his lips curling into a smile.

She pouted uncaringly at that. "Come on; any sane person will worry for their friends if they hear them say something like that."

"Friends…" His lips curled up further, teasing, "Seeing how courteous and awkward you felt while sitting in my car, I reckoned that you had considered me as a stranger now."

"Er, can you blame me for that?" She began to grumble, feeling exasperated. "You've been driving silently since I got in your car. I felt so uncomfortable I didn't know what to say, okay?"

"Ah, I see… I was just thinking about some things earlier," he said apologetically.

When she saw the apology on his face, she felt that, maybe, she had said too much.

"It's not your fault, though. The issue here is that we've not seen each other for years, so I do feel a little estranged to you," she reasoned, smiling a little sheepishly.

His voice resonated in the car, giving one a sense of sadness.

"…" She paused a little when she heard him say that, unsure of how to react.

The man did not seem to be waiting for her to say anything, however, as he continued to speak.

"I like this girl, and I've been unable to forget her all these years. It's quite funny if you think about it; she doesn't even know about my feelings for her, but I've liked her for more than a decade now."

She turned to face the man upon hearing his account and saw a faint smile on his face.

This faint smile was not mocking or sarcastic, but one that came from his heart.

"To be honest, I've dated a few girls, but in each of them, there's always something similar to her. Before I realized it, she's the only one for me. I started looking for her like crazy, but I couldn't find her anywhere; how can I find her now?"

Looking at the hopelessness and sadness on his face, she started to feel bad for this devoted man.
