The first evidence appears!

Pei Ge read one journal after another until late into the night.

By the time she came to herself, it was already late at night and all around her was quiet.

"Haaaa!"

She stretched her back and arms lazily, realizing only then that she had sat there from afternoon until three in the morning!

Looking at the dark sky outside, she felt waves of exhaustion assail her.

She closed the journal before her and habitually picked up her phone to check if Ji Ziming had called.

"Ge Ge! Ge Ge, wake up! It's almost noon; quickly get up for lunch!"

Pei Ge slept straight until noon, and it was only then that she woke up from her exhausting dream…

"Mom…"

She opened her lethargic eyes, her face full of exhaustion.

Looking at the dark circles under her daughter's eyes, Zhang Manhua knitted her brows together and chastised, "Did you stay up late last night? You're getting married; you can't keep doing this! If you do, you won't look good even with makeup when you get married!"

Pei Ge felt revitalized from her complex and shocking dream when she heard her mother's nagging.

"En, en, en! I know, my dearest mom."

She smiled and acted cutely before her mother.

"Seriously, you're always like this." Her mother smilingly shook her head at her antics. "Okay. Quickly get up, wash up, and eat! Lunch's already been prepared."

"Yes, ma'am!"

As she spoke, she got out of bed to go wash up.

After washing up, she walked to the dining room and sat at the table.

Seeing the more-sumptuous-than-usual meal, she knew that her mother had especially prepared this to comfort her due to her startling behavior yesterday.

She felt warm and fuzzy inside.

She picked up the chopsticks and served her mother her favorite bitter gourd and eggs.

"Mom, your favorite!"

"En, not bad. Even though you've become somebody else's, you still remember that your mom likes bitter gourd and eggs."

Zhang Manhua ate the food her daughter gave with a smile.

"By the way, where did Xiao Ji go for his business trip? You said that he's gone on one, but where exactly did he go? You guys are getting married in a few days; why did he suddenly leave on a trip?"

Her mother voiced her concerns after swallowing her food.

Her hand paused a little at her mother's questions.

"Sigh! Mom, you know how busy our Ziming is. Think about it; he's running such a big company! How can he have so much free time like us regular folks?"

She defended the man with a smile. "It's fine as long as he's free on the day of our wedding, right?"

"En, you're right."

Even though she still felt unhappy on her daughter's behalf, what the latter said made sense, so Zhang Manhua did not complain any further.

Seeing that her mother had finally let the man off the hook, Pei Ge sighed herself. To prevent her mother from feeling disgruntled with him again, she got herself together and started chatting with her mother about random stuff.

After lunch, she packed her dad's work journals in her bag and left home, afraid that her mother would ask about Ji Ziming again.

Even though she left home, she did not have a destination in mind.

As such, while carrying a big bag, she roamed the quiet streets alone.

Looking at the blooming flowers under the sun, her thoughts inadvertently turned to her father again.

Her father was a hardworking man with ambitions.

Listed! Dad's company was about to be listed then! That means that there's no way it could've been deep in debt, nor could it have been on the brink of collapse!

How could a company that was going to be listed soon be on the brink of bankruptcy?!

She pursed her lips tightly. Even though she had gotten hints from her father's work journal before, the contract had not been signed for the resort back then, so it did not count as evidence.

It was a different matter if the company was about to be listed!

Listing a company was a rather complex thing; much paperwork was required in its early stages…1
