111 The Story of My Mother

Delia’s POV 0

The scene was truly astonishing and I was left dumbfounded.

It wasn't strange for there to be shadows within the heart. But for the shadow to be white and resembling a pearl was entirely beyond my understanding.

As I leaned in quietly, attempting to confirm whether I was mistaken, I heard Albert breathing heavily beside me. I heard him mutter, "It's been so many years. You've grown up so much, and this is the first time you're seeing your mother's heart. Absurd!"

Albert's emotions seemed even more intense than mine. This puzzled me. I raised my head and found him gazing down at me, his eyes filled with complex and ambiguous emotions.

Though I couldn't decipher his true emotions at that moment, my intuition told me he knew a lot and that whatever he knew made him angry and upset. Perhaps it was time to get him to talk about those past events.

Even though I was curious about what had happened in the past, facing an evidently enraged Albert, I refrained from asking my curious questions recklessly.

I pinched my palm with my fingers, forcing myself to stay calm, and aimed to cleverly coax information out of him.

"Albert, I assume you know a lot about my mother," I pursed my lips, feigning composure as I spoke, "Since you brought me here, you must want to tell me the truth. I'm prepared, you can tell me now."

"Are you sure you want to know the truth?" Albert looked at me, a derisive smirk on his lips, his words dripping with skepticism.

"Delia, based on how frightened you looked earlier, I'm worried that if I even start the story, you'll faint."

Albert's mocking tone made me feel uneasy, but the more he talked that way, the more determined I became.

"I'm very sure I want to know the truth." I slowly stood up, looking earnestly at Albert. "You can try telling me; even if I faint, it's my own choice."

My response seemed to mildly astonish Albert. He stared at me for a moment and then pointed at the sofa where I had been lying earlier.

"Delia, sit down, and I'll explain it to you slowly."

"Alright."

After agreeing, I made my way to the sofa. Sitting down on it, I watched as Albert closed the small box containing the heart.

Then, he walked towards the sofa and sat down next to me.

I wasn't used to sitting so close to Albert. I subtly shifted a bit to create some distance, and Albert didn't seem to mind. He began, "Delia, what do you think of your father?"

"My father, he's the alpha of our pack. He's very busy, and I don't spend much time with him," I thought for a moment and replied.

My feelings towards my father weren't particularly deep. Albert even referred to him as a "bastard." I guessed Albert didn't have a favorable opinion of my father, so there was no need to praise him in front of Albert.

"He obtained the so-called alpha position through your mother!" After hearing my words, Albert's expression grew colder. "He's truly a fox using a tiger's might and a dog riding on someone else's power!"

"Just as you said, he got my mother's treasure and then became an alpha?" I speculated. "Is that treasure the pearl necklace?"

"Delia, you're simplifying your mother's treasure too much."

When mentioning my mother, Albert's tone softened a bit. "In reality, your mother's blood holds a miraculous power, though she didn't know about it.

Your father discovered her secret and went to great lengths to seduce her. After they got married, your mother became pregnant with you."

Albert's words left me gaping in surprise. My mother's blood held a miraculous power, and that was her treasure? This was so unexpected!

"After your mother became pregnant, your father started revealing his true nature. He began treating her with mixed affection and coldness,"

Albert didn't give me much time to contemplate and he continued, "Your mother, in the name of love and to keep a father for you, did everything she could to keep your father. She even did irrational things."

"What irrational thing did she do?" I pressed further.

"Your mother sought out a witch, who happens to be Vivian's mentor, to obtain a love potion," Albert sighed and continued, "Have you ever heard of a love potion?"

Love potion? Wasn't that the thing I once asked Vivian for when I was in pain because of love? Has my mother done the same thing as me?

Though I had little memories of my mother, there seemed to be an invisible thread of fate connecting us, making us suffer for love at the same age.

However, if what Albert said was true, I might be a bit luckier than my mother.

Prince Kral and I had a good relationship. Our meeting and falling in love were natural, not the result of someone scheming to obtain a certain treasure. From that perspective, I might be a lucky one.

"Delia, if you're not going to speak, I'll assume you know what a love potion is," just as I was lost in thought, Albert suddenly leaned closer to me.

He extended his hand and unexpectedly pinched my face, his touch cold and sudden.

"Damn it, you wouldn't be like your mother, would you? Did love drive you to drink a love potion, causing your fiancé to be captivated by you?"

Albert's grip was strong, and combined with his cold fingers. It felt as if my face had been frozen by winter, highly uncomfortable.

"I didn't!" In an attempt to free myself from Albert's grasp, I answered swiftly, then grabbed his wrist with all my might, preventing him from continuing to pinch my face.

"Stop making baseless assumptions!"

"Hmph, it's best if you haven't drunk that thing, but if you did..." Albert sized me up and down, then began speaking ill of Prince Kral, "Someone as proud and arrogant as Kral would look down on everyone. If you fall in love with him, it's like exposing your vulnerability to him. Whenever he wants to exploit that vulnerability, he can strike mercilessly, anytime and anywhere!"

"Prince Kral isn't that kind of person." Albert's words made me feel very uncomfortable, and I immediately retorted, "Prince Kral is a born leader. He's honorable and upright. He's nothing like what you're saying!"

"Tsk tsk, Delia, even if you haven't drunk a love potion, judging by your state, there's not much difference!" Seeing me defending Prince Kral, Albert shook his head and then reached out, poking my forehead.

"Delia, remember this: love is an extremely fatal weakness for anyone. If you have any sense left in your head, you must not get entangled in love!"

"Albert, have you been hurt by someone?" I fell silent for a moment and then cautiously asked, "As far as I know, love is something everyone desires. People want to find their own mates and never be apart. Why do you have this attitude toward love?"

"Love, mates, those are beliefs that only you werewolves hold. I don't believe in any of that," Albert didn't directly answer my question.

He continued, "Your mother was a very intelligent person, but after meeting your father, so-called love became her greatest weakness. It was because of this weakness that she ultimately paid the price with her life!"

"The price of her life," those words were incredibly heavy. As Albert's words faded, my body couldn't help but tremble.

The scene of the beating heart I had seen in the box moments ago flashed vividly in my mind.

Although I had accepted the fact that my mother had passed away, the information Albert was giving me was overwhelming. I really wanted to know how my mother had died.

"Albert, can you tell me how my mother really died?"

After a while, I finally spoke up, "If I remember correctly, she should have died of an illness. Is that reason true or false?"
