123 Kral Is Here
Albert's POV
I don't know if Delia's mother ever took the magic love potion, but based on my understanding of such elixirs, sacrificing oneself just to gain another person's love is a foolish act.
Alice providing the love potion to Delia's mother seemed like a betrayal of the friendship between the three of us.
After this incident, Alice and I had a big argument.
Alice believed she was merely fulfilling a friend's desire. Whether or not Delia's mother chose to drink the love potion was her own decision.
But I saw Alice's actions as encouraging or even enabling Delia's mother to take the potion. Neither of us could persuade the other, and our relationship was irreparably damaged.
My two best friends, one who left for another pack for true love, and the other with whom I had a falling out, had both gone.
I didn't want to continue studying at school, so I returned to the vampire territory.
Upon my return, I found myself caught in a power struggle.
My brother, who tried to seize power, imprisoned me in the underground palace.
I was trapped there for many years until my usurping brother passed away, and I had the chance to take control of the power. That's when I finally escaped the underground palace.
During my time trapped in the underground palace, I constantly longed for Delia's mother.
I didn't know what would happen to her after drinking the love potion, but I hoped that she had achieved her desires and won her husband's love.
Perhaps she had even had children, and I believed her children would undoubtedly be adorable.
The first thing I did after leaving the underground palace was to have someone inquire about her whereabouts, but the news I received was that she had passed away!
The messenger didn't have many details and said that Delia's mother had died many years ago, leaving behind a daughter, Delia, who lived with her father and stepmother.
I couldn't believe this news, so I sent people to investigate further. The response I received confirmed that Delia's mother had indeed passed away, and she hadn't left any message for me.
This news left me in deep sorrow and despair.
I didn't expect Delia's mother to have a change of heart and be with me, but I had hoped she would at least say something to me.
Had our relationship deteriorated to the point where we were nothing more than strangers?
This matter had been haunting me, and the pain was so deep that when I found out that Delia's mother had written me a letter, it struck me like lightning.
Now, I had only one thought: this letter was as important as my life, and I had to protect it at all costs.
After a quick trip down memory lane, I finally began to read the letter in earnest. She had written a whole page, and I gently touched the yellowing paper, trying my best to remember her words.
"Dear Albert, when you read this letter, I had already consumed the Love potion. I know you may think I'm foolish, and truth be told, I wasn't entirely sure if this would work to keep my husband's love. But I know he is my mate, and we naturally have a bond of love. If the Love Potion can make him love me more, then I win the gamble. If not, then I am prepared to lose."
"Albert, when we were studying together, there was a flower left on my desk every day. I knew you were the one leaving those flowers, and I knew you liked me. It was more than a simple student's friendship, and while I never reciprocated your feelings, you may have believed it was because I am a werewolf, and you are a vampire, and we couldn't have a cross-species romance. However, this was not the case. I've always only had a classmate's affection for you. I never felt the attraction between mates, and after finding my own mate, I am even more certain of that."
"Now, I must admit that being in love with my fated mate may not be as wonderful as I imagined. We went from the initial passionate love to our current quarrels. I can feel his growing distance and indifference. I believed that mates should maintain loyalty and affection for one another, and I still hope to bear his children. I didn't want things to turn out this way, so I consumed the Love Potion before the situation deteriorated further. Just as I mentioned at the beginning of this letter, I am prepared to lose this bet. If I truly lose, at least I can keep my heart. I hope my heart will forever remain with my homeland. Albert, can you help me with this request?"
Upon reading these lines, I had finished the letter, and I looked at her familiar handwriting, unable to hold back my tears.
I knew we were from different races. I had been expressing my feelings for Delia's mother cautiously all along, not wanting to startle her with a sudden confession.
I thought that if I persisted long enough, I could win her over. After hearing the news of her passing, I regretted it countless times.
If only I had confessed to her before Delia's father, perhaps I could have changed the course of this tragedy.
But I was wrong. Delia's mother had never felt any romantic attraction towards me.
Even if I had confessed earlier, she would not have accepted me. She was drawn to her fated mate, and regardless of how that person treated her, she would be hopeful until the end of her life.
Through teary eyes, I saw Vivian and Alen looking at me with surprise. Even though I was in a pitiable state, I didn't want them to see my pain.
I recited a spell to make them fall into a deep slumber.
After making sure no one was watching me, I cried for a very long time. When I felt my tears were nearly dried up, I wiped my eyes with a handkerchief.
"I'm willing to help you with this request. I'm more than willing."
Carefully folding the letter, I placed it in my pocket and then walked to the desk. With one hand, I lifted the box containing Delia's mother's heart.
Leaving the study, I headed toward the infirmary.
The doctor was still monitoring Delia's condition in the infirmary. I pushed the doctor aside and reached out with my free hand to hold Delia.
The doctor's face turned pale as he exclaimed, "Your Majesty, Delia has not regained consciousness yet. Now is not the right time to move her!"
"Get out!"
I had no patience for the doctor's words.
I picked Delia up. It was a bit difficult with just one hand, but I clenched my teeth and carried her out of the infirmary.
I walked a few steps with Delia in my arms. I ordered my attendants to prepare a carriage. I intended to take Delia and her heart back to the vampire territory.
However, before the carriage arrived, I heard noisy footsteps coming from upstairs.
"No, I won't allow you to take Delia with you! She is our future queen!"
I followed the direction of the voice and saw that Alen was the one speaking. He must have woken up at some point and hurried down upstairs to stop me from taking Delia away.
"You think you can stop me?"
My eyes turned red as I glared fiercely at Alen and began to recite a binding spell. Soon, black vines emerged from the ground and tightly wrapped around him, rendering him immobile.
Normally, I would have continued with the spell, potentially even strangling Alen with the vines.
However, I had no desire to engage with him at the moment.
I just wanted to get Delia and the heart and leave as quickly as possible.
Satisfied that Alen wouldn't be able to hinder me, I hoisted Delia onto my shoulder and carried the box, heading towards the pack house's entrance.
I called out the name of a servant as I walked, instructing them to prepare a carriage. Suddenly, I saw a circle form on the ground at the entrance.
It emitted a soft green light and white mist. In no time, Alice emerged from within the circle.
I hadn't seen Alice in a very long time.
Her appearance was exactly the same as it had been over a decade ago, as if she hadn't aged a day. I stood there in shock, unable to believe that Alice had appeared before me.
"Albert, I know what you're planning, and you can't take Delia!"
Alice urgently stated upon seeing Delia on my shoulder. "She's seriously injured. Doing this will cost her life!"
"Leaving her in this wretched place is what will cost her life!"
I retorted harshly and was about to ignore Alice and continue when I heard a wolf's howl. 0
A large, majestic wolf appeared behind Alice. If I wasn't mistaken, this wolf had emerged from Alice's magical circle.
Upon seeing Delia, the wolf let out a furious roar. "Put down Delia!"
Recognizing the voice, I knew it was Kral. Seeing Kral's commanding presence, my heart skipped a beat.
Wasn't Kral severely injured?
How could he possibly have the strength to transform into a wolf and appear before me in such a powerful form?
Something was not right.
