16 A mystery and A Secret
Sibyl’s POV
“Nino has written at least 500 messages about the Dragon Scale, and we need some time to sort them out,” Wayde said, frowning.
It would slow down our investigation. The more time we spend identifying information, the less time we have left to find the Dragon Scale.
“I can help,” I said. “I know some details about the Dragon Scale. I can sift through the information.”
“Really? That's great.” Wayde smiled at me with encouragement and kindness in his eyes.
I wanted to help Nuri. I also wanted to prove that I was not a princess who would only slow us down.
“How long do you need?” Nuri asked me.
“If I worked day and night, I could process the information in two days.”
Nuri thought for a moment. “We're in no hurry. You don't have to work at night. I'll give you four days.”
“Thank you, that's enough.”
We leave Nino's tavern for a restaurant that looks elegant.
Manolo said, "This town is said to be famous for its lobsters. Although the purpose of our visit was to investigate the Dragon Scale, that didn't stop us from sampling the local cuisine."
Lobster? Oh, I've just heard of this delicacy and haven't tried it.
Everyone's mood becomes relaxed, even Nuri uses a kind of languid posture to sit in the chair.
Soon, a plate of delicious lobster was placed on the table by the waiter. The lobster shell is bright red and makes one drool.
Wait, the lobster wasn't shelled?
I looked at my long, pink nails and looked embarrassed.
I didn't bring my maid Amy out because Nuri didn't want anyone else to know about our trip today. This means that no one will serve me. I have to give up trying.
I looked at the men in front of me and bit my lip without speaking.
Well, the next time I take Amy shopping, I'll enjoy the meal alone.
Oh, dear lobsters, I have to say goodbye to you today with tears in my eyes.
Seeing my nails, Manolo peeled a lobster with his long fingers and tried to put it on my plate.
But another big hand put a peeled lobster on my plate first.
“I don't like the taste, you eat it.” Nuri's voice still sounded serious.
Wayde raised an eyebrow as if surprised by Nuri's words.
“Eat it while it's hot.”
“Oh, thank you.” I took a bite of the lobster. Oh, it tasted better than I thought. I smiled and looked up at Nuri. “It's delicious. Would you like to try it?”
Nuri made a strained gesture and took a bite of the lobster I had just eaten. “It's not bad,” he said.
It's not the first time Nuri has shared the same food with me, but I feel a bit shy because of the presence of other men today. After all, two people biting the same food means another form of intimacy.
Wayde and Roth pretended not to see what was happening. Manolo's hand, which is holding the lobster, pauses in the air for a few seconds and then puts the food in his mouth.
Just like that, Nuri kept peeling the lobsters, and soon, my plate was full...

Manolo’s POV
When I returned to my room at night, I couldn't forget two pictures.
One is Nuri peeling a lobster for Sibyl. As far as I know, Nuri likes to eat seafood such as shrimp and crab. They were, of course, food only the nobles could afford, much better than the crackers the poor ate. But, to my surprise, today he said he didn't like the taste of lobster and put the lobster he peeled on Sibyl's plate.
I never thought the proud Nuri would do such a thing.
I noticed Sibyl's long nails. Noble women don't need to work, so they like to keep long nails and decorate them. Although Sibyl is an unloved princess, she still maintains this habit.
To save her embarrassment, I tried to give her the lobster I had peeled, but Nuri was faster than I was.
It seems Nuri has noticed her long nails too and doesn't want her to miss out on this delicious treat.
Nuri cares more about Sibyl than I thought.
I should be happy with this finding, which means Sibyl won't have a miserable life in the Rodriguez family. But it also shows Nuri's interest in Sibyl.
If a man is interested in a woman, he won't let her go.
I sigh softly.
Another image shows Nino's surprised look at Sibyl. Although he quickly adjusted his expression, I saw the shock in his eyes.
Sibyl is a princess growing up in the palace. She had never left the palace until she was 18, so she could never have met Nino.
So why did Nino react this way?
This question has been on my mind. As the Moon Rose, I covered my face with light blue gauze and slipped out the door.
At the bar door, I knocked three times, and Nino dressed neatly and opened the door for me.
“I knew you'd come for me.” He wasn't surprised that I showed up at night.
“Then I'll ask you directly. Do you know the girl who came with us today?”
Nino didn't answer my question. He looked me in the eye. “Are you a mermaid?”
I laughed. Nino is indeed the most well-informed person on the whole continent, and everything cannot escape his eyes.
“Yes.” I didn't want to hide my identity.
He became very excited and put on a face of prayer. “I never believed that the mermaids were extinct. Thank God I finally met you today.”
“I know my people are dead. And I just went on with my life in a sad mood. When I die, the mermaid will be a legend forever. We will never be persecuted for our magical blood and tears again. It's death, but it's also a relief.”
“No, you have to live. You have to get married and have children. 500 years ago, the mermen were the royal family of our continent. You can't die.” He grabbed my hand excitedly.
He pushed him away and shook my head. “I didn't come here today to discuss my problems with you. I want to know why you were so surprised to see that girl today.”
“I thought I saw a dead woman.”
“What do you mean?”
Nino sighed. “I was going to keep it to myself. Eighteen years ago, I found a woman in the grass in the suburbs. She was about to give birth, but her body was covered in blood. She is very weak and going to die. I took pity on her, put an herb in her mouth, and then she woke up and gave birth to a baby with her last strength.”
“And?” 0
“Then something terrible happened. The clear sky suddenly darkened, as if the world was coming to an end. All the flowers faded in an instant. I was young and didn't know what was going on, so I ran home in fear. I remember the whole day was so dark that the sun suddenly disappeared. Everyone said a demon ate the sun, and they banged their drums to scare the demons out of the sky.”
“I've read about it. It's really a mystery.”
“When the sun came up, I went back to the place where the woman died. But she and the baby were gone as if they had never existed.”
“So the girl who came with us today... She?”
“Yes. She looks a lot like the woman who died 18 years ago. They both have unforgettable faces.”
“Have you told anyone about this?”
Nino shook her head. “No. It's so weird.”
“Thank you, and I hope you won't say anything about this to anyone ever again.” I took out a pearl and gave it to him. “The pearl is not as precious as a mermaid's tear, but it is a precious treasure. This is your reward.”
He carefully took the pearl, “It is said that mermaids can make predictions, but you cannot predict your own fate, is it?”
“Only God can predict his own future. We live on a continent, so it is difficult to know our destiny.”
Nino sighed, “It's a pity the witches haven't been around for years. The head witch is said to be dead. I haven't heard from them in a long time, or you could visit them and get some prophecies about your fate.”
“I will visit them in the Holy Land of witches, but I will not predict my future. Everyone has his own destiny. Instead of speculating, we should accept all possibilities.”
I left Nino's Tavern.
It is the day of the full moon again. The Silver Moon hangs in the sky like a mysterious circle, hiding many secrets of the earth with the gentle moonlight.
