When I received the invitation from Nuri, I was so happy I almost screamed.

But I remained calm and elegant. I took the invitation and asked casually, “Did he just invite me?”

“Yes,” replied the servant who had come to deliver the letter.

I controlled my laughter and asked, “Will Princess Sibyl come?”

“No.”

“Okay, I get it. You tell Sir Rodriguez I'll be there tomorrow.”

After Nuri's servant had left, I jumped up with joy and turned in circles with the invitation in my hand.

“Mummy, you're right. Nuri will come to me.”

What happened on my birthday really pissed me off. Instead of getting me a gift. He took Sibyl right out of my room, showing no concern for my feelings or our engagement.

My mother said to me happily, “My dear, this is the first lesson I've taught you. If you care about a man and want to get him, you can't be too aggressive in front of him, you can't reveal your emotions. Keep your dignity and wait for him to come to you.”

I looked at him in surprise and forgot to manage my expression.

“So you chose to make me sad.”

“I didn't promise you anything.”

“Do you love her?” I asked with all my strength.

Nuri froze, then he nodded. “Yes, I love her.”

I dropped the cup hard on the ground. “Why? She's just an unloved princess in the royal family. She has no power, no money, she's not even as pretty as me!”

I feel like I'm going crazy. I can't believe I lost to that Sibyl b.itch!

She's just a woman abandoned by the Royal Family!

She doesn't even have a noble mother!

“But I love her,” Nuri said. “That's what I'm going to tell you today. Tomorrow, I'm going to make an announcement, and I hope you find a man worthy of your love.”

Nuri was ready to leave the room.

I can't let him leave.

“Nuri!” I shouted. “Have you forgotten how your father and brother died on the battlefield? Have you forgotten how your mother died of grief? Have you forgotten what the royal family did to your family?”

I went on, “Do you know why the Royal Family married Sibyl to you? They're just buying more time. They know how much you hate them, and they hate you too. There will be a war between you, you know!”

Nuri turned and looked at me. “This has nothing to do with Sibyl. She's my wife now.”

I sneered, “You're going to kill the King and Queen, aren't you? Or they kill you. But Sibyl has a brother, he is the king's son, the future king. If you don't kill him, do you think he'll leave you alone as an adult? If you kill him, do you think Sibyl won't hate you? As far as I know, she loved her brother very much and they grew up together.”

Nuri's lips pressed into a line, and I knew my words were working. This is a dilemma that cannot be solved. The Royals and Rodriguez hated each other, and only one of them survived. As the prince, Sibyl's brother must die. For Nuri, the royal prince meant hatred and danger.

If Nuri makes this announcement, it means he's publicly rejecting me. It would be a great shame for me because everyone knows I want to marry him.
