39 Be Careful With Her

In autumn, when chrysanthemums are at their best, the palace celebrates its most important event of the year -- the Queen's birthday.

Since this woman became the queen, she even changed the floor tiles of her palace into gold bricks to show her dignity. She enjoys it when others kneel before her and bow down to her, because it is a feeling of holding power and practicing it. She must feel the dignity of being a queen every day, or she will become irritable.

The birthday party every fall is her favorite activity. All the ministers and nobles came to the palace to celebrate her birthday. Everyone offered treasures from all over the continent, spoke the words of blessing, and showed loyalty and fear for the Crown.

Previously, Doyle and I were not allowed to attend her birthday party. We had to stay in our house, listening to songs and laughter coming from the garden in the distance. But we never regret it, because being ignored by the queen means safety.

But now that I'm Mrs. Rodriguez, I have to go to this stupid party with Nuri.

My hand touched the dress with some hesitation.

“Your grace, hurry up and put on this dress. It took five of the most famous tailors two months to make it. Sir Rodriguez ordered it for you three months ago. It's the most noble color and you'll look stunning in it,” says Amy happily.

Can I wear this color? The Queen must wear purple today, too. Is she gonna be mad at me?

Amy saw my concern, and as she helped me dress, she said, “Your grace, be confident. You're Mrs. Rodriguez. You don't have to be afraid of the Queen.”

I took a deep breath. Yes, I am no longer a little girl bullied by the Queen.

When I got dressed and went to Nuri, I found that he was also wearing a purple robe. Our clothes have the same buttons, patterns and belts, but some of the designs show differences between men and women.

Today's birthday party is more luxurious than usual. In the garden stood a huge jeweled peacock, which reflected the colorful light from the candles around it, making it difficult to look directly at it. There are lotus flowers floating in the lake in the garden. Each lotus flower is scented, making the whole garden filled with a faint fragrance.

It's late autumn now. Why are there lotus flowers here?

I went to the lake and looked at them carefully. Oh, God, these lotus flowers are not real, but carved out of gold.

Each golden lotus can feed 10 poor families for a year.

Since my father got sick, the Queen has gone too far.

Around the peacock was a circle of tables and chairs, on which were placed beautifully shaped silver plates. There were many things on the plate that I hadn't seen before, such as food and refreshments, and wine from other countries.

I shook my head.

It's not a good sign that the queen is so ostentatious.

“Your grace, be careful,” a woman said to me, smiling. “The lake is a dangerous place. You shouldn't be standing here alone.”

Her words reminded me. I remember the death of a noble girl who fell into a lake during a party last year.

I stepped back to Amy and said politely to the woman, “Thank you.”

“You can call me Diana,” the woman winked at me. “Your grace, I respect the Rodriguez family and bless your love for Sir Rodriguez, so I don't want to see anyone break up your marriage.”

My Marriage?

“Azariah, you have to be careful with her. Don't let her get close to your husband,” she said to me in a low voice. “You can't imagine what she would do to fight for your husband.”

I stared at her. I know Azariah wants to marry Nuri, and many people expect me to go to war with her, but Diana was the first woman to tell me to be careful with her.

Diana, why are you helping me? My instinct tells me not to trust anyone.

I replied politely, “Thank you for your concern. I believe in Nuri.”

“You can trust anyone, but you can't trust a man. Do you think a man will reject a sexy woman when she throws herself at him?” Diana's voice was mocking.

I don't know how to answer her.

“Men are selfish, fickle and horny. We women can't trust love, we can only trust ourselves,” she continued. “Anyway, you have to be careful with Azariah tonight.”

She gave me a look and then left.

I pondered for a moment, then found Nuri.

“Where have you been? The party's about to start. There are a lot of people here tonight. You stay with me and don't go anywhere, okay?”

I nodded. I looked at Nuri's concerned face and decided to forget what that strange woman Diana had said.

The party began. The queen came out with an exaggerated crown, and everyone took turns kneeling before her, offering gifts, and saying flattering things.

I yawned. It was so boring. What time does the party end?

Nuri stood in front of me, blocking the Queen's view with his tall body. He whispered to me, “If you're tired, you can lean on me and rest.”

I snickered, laid my head on his broad back, and relaxed my body.

The etiquette of the palace is really tiring.

I played with my fingers to pass time. A mischievous idea came to my mind. I poked my finger somewhere around Nuri's waist.

Every time I poke it, he gets an itch.

This is his sensitive point.

When I first poked him, I felt his body stiffen.

I chuckled and poked him again.

He must be trying hard now to keep his serious face.

I was as happy as a child playing a prank.

His big hand went behind his back and took both of my hands.

“If you're naughty again, I'll make you cry in bed tonight,” he whispered. 0

Oh, I quickly withdrew my hand.

Nuri is getting crazier and crazier about s.ex lately, so I'm not taking any chances.

“Knight Rodriguez and Princess Sibyl are really in love,” said a lady with a smile.

All eyes are on us.

I immediately returned to my former posture.

“Princess Sibyl is the wife the Queen has chosen for me. I dare not give her the cold shoulder.” Nuri's voice was devoid of emotion.

Oh, I don't want to be the center of attention at all.

The Queen's eyes wandered over Nuri and me. The corners of her mouth twitched, then she smiled again. “I got a gift yesterday. It's very precious. I want to invite you to enjoy it with me today.”

The queen clapped her hands three times. A group of servants pushed up a huge iron cage, which was covered with red cloth so that it was hard to see what was inside.

Everyone is full of curiosity.

The nobles like to catch some wild animals, such as leopards and tigers, and domesticate them into pets. I guess there's a precious beast in there.

When the red cloth was lifted, I heard the exclamations of the people around me.

“Unicorn!”

This is a unicorn.

But she looked very young, and her silvery white hair glowed bluish in the moonlight. She lay limply in her cage, covered with scars, looking very pitiful.

“Shae!” Manolo, who wasn't supposed to be at the party, rushes to the cage. He clutched the bars of the cage with both hands and cried out her name in pain.

The unicorn named Shae looks up at Manolo.

She looked at him with tears in her eyes and the whimpering of a young animal in her mouth.
