51 A Life For A Life
The Queen‘s POV
“Your Majesty, the doctor is here,” whispered the maid, kneeling with her head down.
I leaned back on the bench, put a hand to my temple, closed my eyes, and waved, “Let her in.”
The maid left the room, and a middle-aged woman in gray came in with a medicine box.
“Your Majesty, it is an honor to have the opportunity to serve you,” she said, kneeling on the floor, bending over in a humble manner.
My headache put me in no mood to talk to her politely. “Stand up.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.” She stood up, stiff, as if not sure how to stand in my palace.
“I hear your father is good at acupuncture?”
“Yes, my father went to the east when he was young and studied acupuncture.”
“Do you know about acupuncture?”
“I grew up with my father. I can treat some diseases with acupuncture.”
“Every time it rains, my head hurts badly. I've taken a lot of medicine and it doesn't work. I want to try acupuncture now.”
“I will do my best, Your Majesty.”
I nodded. My maid went over to the woman, examined the herbs and needles in her medicine box, and allowed her to approach me only after she was certain they were harmless.
“If you can ease her Majesty 's headache, you will receive many rewards, but if you try to hurt her, you will die here,” my maid warned her carefully.
The woman was so frightened that she quickly bowed. “I swear I am loyal to the royal family.”
“Don't talk nonsense, come and give me acupuncture.” Listening to them talk, my head became more pain.
The woman came up to me and took out a green leaf. “Your Majesty, please take this mint leaf.”
I stared at the Mint. It has a delicate aroma, but the taste is milder than the other mints, and has a sea salt smell. I put it in my mouth and a feeling of freshness came from my mouth and nose into my head. I feel relaxed, and my mood is not so upset.
“I'm going to start acupuncture now,” she said, gently jabbing a needle into my skin.
Her hands were rough but flexible, and I could feel no pain. On the contrary, my headache is slowly easing.
Smelling the mint, I slowly closed my eyes. By the time I wake up from my nap, the woman is already tidying up her medicine box.
“Your Majesty, the acupuncture is over. How are you feeling?”
I turned my neck and shook my head. It's amazing. My head doesn't hurt anymore.
The woman respectfully took out a few mint leaves, “Your Majesty, Your headache has been going on for many years. It can only be relieved, not rooted. When you have a headache again in the future, you can take these mint leaves and they will be good for your recovery.”
I looked at her and gestured for my maid to take the Mint leaves. Then I asked slowly. “I hear your mother has the blood of a Witch?”
At my words, she knelt on the ground with her voice trembling, “Your Majesty, my mother is just a grandniece of a witch. Every witch takes a potion when they leave their place of residence, so her offspring have no magic. My mother has no magic.”
“Why are you so nervous?” I smiled at her. “I'm just making small talk.”
The woman's body was still shaking. “My mother is dead. She has nothing to do with witches. My mother has been an orphan since she was a child. She is just like any other human being.”
I laughed, I just asked her a question, she was in a hurry to explain so much. It seems that the news is true.
I grabbed her hair and made her eyes look at me. “Of course, I know your mother and you don't have magic, or you wouldn't be a commoner now. But I heard that your mother had a piece of paper torn from a grimoire which contained a method of poisoning.”
“I. . . I don't know,” she said, looking down, afraid to look at me.
“I think your son's name is Sam, right? He's 11 years old. An 11-year-old boy is usually very naughty, and if he falls into a lake or gets lost in a forest, that's normal.”
“Your Majesty!” The woman hugged my feet and cried. “My son is innocent. Please let him go.”
“No, it's not me who can save your son, it's you.” I looked down at her. “You know what you have to do?”
The woman's expression was very painful, hesitated for a while, she kowtowed and said, “I have seen that paper. The method of poisoning is called 'a life for a life' .”
“A life for a Life?” That's the first time I've heard of such an interesting name.
“Yes,” said the woman, still on her knees, “The poison must be ingested by two people in one day. Both of them will become weak. Unless one of them kills the other, they will both die a painful death.”
“How will they die?”
“The skin cracked and the eyes went blind; the nose, mouth and ears gushed blood.”
“It is indeed a terrible poison. Is there any other way to cure it besides what you have just said?”
“If one of the victims kills himself, the other will be saved.”
“So either kill the other and save yourself, or kill yourself to save the other. Interesting.”
No wonder the witch banned this method of poisoning. The most frightening thing about this method is not the pain of death, but the inner struggle in the face of death. The poisoned person is trying to kill each other, but he is also worried that he will be killed.
The most terrible thing in this world is always the darkness in people's hearts.
I like this poison.
I put my foot on the woman's hand. “I'll give you seven days. If you succeed in making this poison, I'll let you go home to your son. If you fail, I'll cut off your hand.”
“I'll... I'll try.”
I looked at her trembling body and her frightened expression, smiled disdainfully, and turned to leave the room.
She's just a civilian. She should be honored that I gave her a chance to work for me.
…………
Today is the first full moon of October. According to tradition, today is the day when the king and queen spend the night together.
But the king had not observed this tradition for many years. Before he got sick, he slept with almost every pretty young maid in the palace. He even slept with the maids in my palace.
It's a shame to me, but I can't blame him.
Because my family asked me to keep the honor of being a queen. I can do anything I want, except divorce the king.
And the king has always indulged me. He knew I had killed many of his concubines and children, but he pretended not to know. Because he only enjoys seducing young girls, and does not care about their later life.
He gave me everything he could, except love.
We stopped having s.ex a long time ago.
I live like a widow in this splendid palace.
Ever since he got sick, he's been obsessed with the elixir of life. We didn't have much in common. We only met for a short time, and gradually, we became more like strangers.
But today, I decided to visit him. 0
I had all my maids standing at the door, and I opened the door of his palace and was greeted by a strong smell of medicine.
The palace was dark and quiet, and I could hear him coughing.
I went to his bedroom. The doctors and servants knelt down as soon as they saw me.
“Leave us, all of you. I want to speak to the king.”
They left, and I went to my husband's bed and looked at him.
“There you are.” He looked at me, not surprised.
“Do you remember what day it is?” I asked him.
He shook his head. “I don't know. If it were an important day, my servant would tell me.”
“You really forgot.” Although I had already guessed the answer, my heart still hurt for a while.
“Just say it, don't beat around the bush,” he said impatiently.
I grabbed a gold band from his bed and tore it apart. “You're just a heartless b.astard. Do you remember your son?”
“I have many sons. I don't know which one you're talking about. I can't remember their names. I only remember that I still have a son who lives in the palace.”
I looked at him angrily. “Twelve years ago, my son died of illness on a rainy night. Today is the anniversary of his death.”
“I see,” he said without emotion.
“He was calling for his father when he died, but do you remember where you were? You dragged my maid into a small bedroom, and you were raping her!”
He cocked his head and coughed.
