33 Water of Truth

It's Bernice! 0

I quickly looked in the direction of the sound, and Alen nodded at me. I knew I had found the place.

Vivian whispered to me, "Sister, there is a great smell of blood!"

I silently clutched my sleeve and watched Alen bake a seal on a candle, then place it on the black wall. A golden light flashed and the wall made a loud noise.

"Wow," Vivian had never seen.

With a bang, the wall cracked on both sides. The dust filled the air and Vivian and I were pushed back by Alen.

After the dust, I saw a woman through the wooden railing. Her hands and feet were chained to the wall, and a chain around her neck made it almost impossible to see if she was breathing.

Her hair fell down over her face. Her clothes were indistinguishable, and her exposed limbs bore dark red marks. There was a black stain at her feet, left by some unknown object. In the basement cell, which had little light, everything about her seemed ominous.

I can't believe this is Bernice who always shines, but my ears don't fool me.

"You're just in time, Alen. She was just about to say it."

The burly general Bud popped out of a dark corner. He quickly opened the wooden door, poked his head out and looked around, then told us to hurry in. He did what Alen did, and the walls rejoined. I couldn't see it at all as a secret door.

When the wooden railing was opened, I found a chair in an unremarkable dark corner, on which sat a familiar black figure.

“Kral?” I said softly, opening and closing my lips.

Somehow, the Kral of today reminds me of the cold, sharp moment when I killed Nick. His whole body was hidden in the darkness, as if surrounded by some kind of dangerous aura. Invisible murderous intent surged toward me in the darkness.

"Oh, I think I hear my dear sister's voice."

Bernice made a sudden noise. Her voice was hoarse as if it had been sanded. The strands of hair that covered her face were shaken away, revealing the face of Bernice that I would never forget. Her blonde hair, once her pride, had faded.

“It's me, Bernice. I didn't expect you to be alive.” I looked at her in a sorry state and at me in an exquisite dress. It was as if the two of us were in a different place in my memory. I stood in that high place, and she became a humble one.

"Of course I'm alive! I want to see you become a queen! A werewolf queen who can't shift into a wolf! hahahaha, how ridiculous!"

Bud's expression froze. He looked at Alen, who silently shook his head.

Bernice's face was hideous. Without an arm, she laughed at me with all her body, and the chains that bound her on the wall rattled under her struggle. Looking at his mad state, my nails deep into the palm of my hand.

Vivian looked at me sadly. She tugged at my finger. She conveyed her voice in her mind.

‘Don't be sad. I will help you to find your wolf. I promise. Don't you listen to this wicked woman. We'll find a way.'

"Enough! Bernice, we've done your deal. You've met Delia. Now you're going to tell us who gave you the Wolfsbane Potion."

Cried Bud. He took out the whip hanging on the wall. The whip cracked and struck Bernice hard on the side.

Bernice shuddered. The whip swung back to the ground, raising a cloud of dust from the wall.

"Isn't that the secret that keeps me alive?"

Bernice smiled wickedly, her face smeared, but she looked at me with the same haughty look as before.

"Bernice, if I were you, I'd tell Your Highness the answer as soon as possible. This is one of your merits, and it offsets some of your sins. You and Delia are sisters, so the prince may not kill you."

Alen stood next to Kral, and he put on his familiar smile and spoke softly to Bernice. His voice was convincing, as if he were thinking of her from her point of view.

When the bell rang, Vivian's girlish voice rang in my head. “I hate it when he smiles like that. Every time he smiles like that, I know he's thinking of bad ideas again.”

But Bernice just laughed sarcastically, and she looked at Alen and Bud, thin lips open: "You are indeed the prince's right hand. You play the bad guy, and you play the good guy. But I don't buy it. I knew I was going to die. You don't want me to live, and neither does the man who gave us wolfsbane. I'm just a victim of your war. I'll see which one of you wins, hahahaha."

"B.itch! Your Highness, since we can't get anything out of her, let's just kill her!"

Bud was provoked by Bernice's wild laughter and the veins in his forehead popped. His hand, which held the whip, trembled uncontrollably with anger.

"Don't do anything rash," Alen said with a smile that faded from his face. He reached up and grabbed Bud's muscled arm. He turned to Kral, who had been sitting silently in his chair.

"Bernice," Kral's low voice sounded slowly, echoing in the empty cave, “The first time, you and Nick tried to trick a human into killing me. The second time, you painted your nails with poison to hurt me. These two crimes are enough to get you executed.”

Bernice forced a pale, disdainful smile. But under Kral's majestic gaze, the fear in her eyes was not hidden.

"I know you want to live. You refuse to give us the man's name, and you're using Delia to piss us off. You haven't answered my question. It's not that you don't want to answer, but it's that you don't know who he is."

As Kral's voice fell, the air in the crypt fell silent, and the cold, damp feeling of the underground invaded every pore of my body. Alen and Bud's faces became especially heavy. Yes, every time Bernice would ask to see me before telling the secret we wanted. Last time she tried to kill me. Today she used the same trick. However, the reason why she did it was that she didn't know the answer!

“I don't want to waste any more time on you.” Kral turned to us. “Vivian, you're a witch. I guess you have that truth-telling potion, right? Let her drink it and spit it out.”

"Ah, sister, I don't have that. I can't make this potion without materials!"

Vivian winked innocently at me. I heard her speak through the bell. I silently turned to Kral's golden eyes in the darkness. The golden light flowed in his eyes, and the rage and killing in his body was almost unbearable.

Sweat dripped from my forehead, and I told Vivian in my heart. “You have to pretend you have this potion!”

Kral has endured Bernice for so long. He must have an answer today.

Vivian took out a red bottle from her pocket, held it in her hand, and looked at Bernice with her aquamarine eyes, then she said in her witch's voice, "Water of truth, hear my call, and cleanse the lost soul, and tear the mask, and punish the lies between the lips and the teeth."

With Vivian's low voice, the bright red liquid slowly flew out of the bottle as if it had a soul. It was like a red vine that slowly wrapped itself around Bernice's body, from the soles of her feet all the way up to her lips.
