35 I'm Ready
Delia’s POV 0
The steam was rising around me. The bathroom window was open, and the white moon hung in the dark blue sky, shining like pearls on velvet cloth.
I stared at the sky, lying in the bathroom tub, thinking about the day's events.
What elder William said about royal discipline, about loyalty to mate, reminded me of His Royal Highness Kral. He was so noble and cold. I remembered how he interrogated Bernice this afternoon. Had it not been for the sharp arrow, everything would have been under his control. Bernice was supposed to be able to tell the secret under Kral's guidance.
Nothing seems to escape Kral's grasp. He is always in control of the development and outcome of everything. He tortured Bernice's body for a week, then used the witch's potion to break her, and finally used her weakness to drive her to her death.
He laughed in the dark. Even now in the warm tub, it still gives me chills.
I shook my head, trying to shake off my memory of him. I hugged my shoulders and sank into the water. The warm water waves came towards me and enveloped me completely. There was a layer of water pressure on my eardrums, and the whole world was shut off by the water. It was so quiet.
Knock, Knock
I opened my eyes and swam in the huge bathtub toward the door.
The door opened with a creak.
"Is that Susana?" I poked my head out of the water. I haven't had anyone serve me in the shower since what happened in the bathroom last time. When I took a shower, all the maids were at the door. They came in only after I had finished washing.
"It's me."
Kral's cold voice rang out, and the air in the bathroom became chilly.
He took off his cloak and wore a slim gray shirt. The cold aura on his body became lighter. His black hair parted lazily like a predator wandering through the forest. Although he looked relaxed, there was still a hint of danger in him.
"Your Highness ... Why are you here?" I backed away in a panic and hid myself under the water, only showing my head, staring at his steps.
"There's no one else here," he said, walking to the open French window and standing with his hands behind his back, his black hair falling between his eyebrows, obscuring the look in his eyes. The moonlight sprinkled on his handsome face, adding some mystery to him.
"Yes, master..." I suddenly understood his subtext.
"What do you know about Bernice?"
"Not much, master." The scene of Bernice's death reappeared again in the afternoon. I remembered the face full of resentment, and the uncomfortable feeling reappeared.
"Delia, I told you, you are my weapon and the only girl who can calm me down. You were chosen by me, and I was chosen by you. We are bound by some kind of fate." Kral turned. The stray hair between his eyebrows added a shadow to his eyes.
"I know."
I was in the water. The milky mist blurred his face, and I squirmed into the water to get some security in the warm bath.
"Someone in the palace is conspiring with Bernice. I want to find that person. But right now, I don't know who that person is." He looked at me and said slowly, "But I do know one thing."
Curiosity drew me closer and closer to him. I swam up to him slowly, like a baited fish near the shore.
“Delia, that man doesn't want me to marry you. He doesn't want you to be Queen.”
Kral suddenly leaned down, close to my face. In the moonlight, his face was divided by a straight nose, half-light and half-dark. He reached out and slowly rubbed my face. His warm palms were still covered with thin calluses. This is all evidence of his hard work.
"What do you think we should do?"
Kral's eyes began to move down my face, past my neck, to where the water covered my skin. His deep golden eyes swept over almost every inch of my bare skin on the surface of the water.
I looked at him like a rabbit in the palm of a tiger. The tension and fear of the unknown gripped my nerves so tightly that I could barely think, but Kral's expression showed that he was still patiently waiting for an answer.
"Then I will be your perfect queen. I will do my best to be your queen. I will find out who betrayed you in the palace and made you the new king."
I almost blurted it out, without any hesitation, as if I had sworn an oath to the moon goddess.
The palm on the side of my face stopped moving. Kral's golden eyes locked in my vision, and he almost swallowed me up with his eyes.
"As I said, we are a closer relationship than mates. We are a team now. You give me what I want and I will give you what you want."
"Master, I thank you for taking me away from the Red Moon Pack. I never thought I could enter the palace and gain power and respect. I was scared at first, but now I want to take control of it, like you."
Kral did not speak. He looked at me carefully, his beautiful lips parted. "If you are my queen, you will have to face many difficulties, even your life may be threatened. Are you really ready?"
“I'm ready,” I said firmly.
…………
The next day, at Susana's urging, I got up to wash and change.
Susana was dressed very formally today. She had changed into a long grey dress suit, with the Royal Gold Badge pinned to her chest. Her white hair was neatly cut, giving her a neat look.
"My Lady, today's reception is very important. This is your first formal appearance before the nobles. Please keep up your manners."
"I understand, Susana."
Behind me, the ladies-in-waiting were visibly stressed by Susana's serious gaze. Their movements could not be more careful. I kept changing clothes at their request. Tired as I was, I had to brace myself for what came next.
One dress after another was rejected under Susana's harsh gaze. Vivian was so bored that she sat in a corner with a mouthful of cupcakes in her mouth. I don't know who gave it to her.
"What's the matter? Doesn't this dress fit you well? Why does it look so tight on the chest now?" Susana's eyebrows twitched as her hoarse voice brushed past my ears. The maids kept their heads down.
“Susana, His Highness has just sent someone to ask if the lady is ready,” said the maid, who had rushed through the door, leaning over Susana.
"You tell the Prince to give me some time. I'll make it perfect," Susana said anxiously.
"Don't worry, Susana. The prince ordered me to bring a dress and jewellery."
Alen said as he walked in, smiling at us, holding a long pink rectangular box. He scanned the room and found Vivian eating a cake in the corner.
"Open it," Susana ordered the maid. The box was opened, and a long strapless red velvet dress appeared before me. The dark red velvet was magnificent and noble. Many diamonds gathered into a belt around the waist, as if a galaxy around my side. The hem of the skirt was embroidered with a lot of silver thread. As I walked, the silver thread sparkled like stars. There is a white silk flower on the chest. A few tiny pearls adorn the petals of a flower. They sparkled faintly, like dew on a flower.
The maid dressed me. My shoes are delicate silver heels. There were no unnecessary decorations, only a splash of scarlet on the sole of the shoes to match the dress.
My hair was tied up at the back of my head, and Susana put a crown of pearls and jewels on my head. The weight of it was so heavy and it gave me a headache.
“Delia, you are incredibly beautiful.” Alen's voice came from behind. I turned around and saw everyone looking at me quietly, their eyes filled with admiration.
