61 She Can't Be The Queen
Alen's POV 0
In the shimmering ripples in the air, I sensed the message Kral had sent me. He was back.
Suppressing my joy, a heavy weight lifted from my heart. I knew Delia must have succeeded.
I discreetly observed the elders around me.
They maintained calm faces, but their eyes revealed nervous anticipation, especially the elder William, who had an interest in his daughter Catherine's performance in the queen's trial.
However, the outcome was bound to disappoint them.
The golden vines in the air slowly unraveled, revealing a luminous figure wrapped in light. Her face was still indistinct, but two golden lilies in her hands stood out prominently.
A deathly silence fell upon the entire hall as all eyes fixated on her.
"Who could that be?" an elder furrowed his brows, his voice barely audible as if afraid of disturbing something.
But no one could answer his question.
Like a fish leaping out of water, the figure enveloped in light emerged from the rippling air.
The rippling air behind her shattered silently, like a broken mirror.
Meanwhile, the giant wolf with red eyes at the feet of the Moon Goddess opened its mouth again, emitting a thunderous sound. A beam of light shot towards a light in the air, forming a radiant floating sphere.
"This... is the queen acknowledged by the Moon Goddess?"
"Yes. It has been years since we last witnessed this scene. It truly evokes nostalgia."
Ever since the passing of the last queen, the younger generation of the elders had not witnessed such a sight.
While Lycans have long lifespans, most elders have only witnessed the birth of a queen once. If it weren't for his Highness, as a general, I wouldn't have had the privilege to be present in the sacred temple.
The whispered conversations did not disturb the unfolding events in the air. The cluster of light, absorbing countless beams of radiance, slowly unfurled like a blossoming lotus. Strips of luminous fabric gently cascaded down, scattered specks floating on the ground. Amidst the lotus, the figure of the young girl finally emerged.
She wore a simple, elegant white gown, with long satin gloves delicately enveloping her slender arms. Her chestnut hair was intricately braided into a long plait, revealing her exquisite features. The braided strands were adorned with tiny pearls, akin to blooming buds. Around her neck, she wore a modest pearl necklace with a fashion design, exuding purity and elegance.
A lace scarf, reaching down to her ankles, adorned her hair, studded with countless sparkling diamonds, resembling a celestial shower cascading down her back, adding a touch of subtle beauty to her flowing dress.
In her hands, two blooming golden lilies coiled around her arms, climbing upward and resting on her neck. The golden glow illuminated her face as her amber eyes slowly opened.
She descended gracefully before the statue of the Moon Goddess.
The radiance gradually subsided, and everyone remained silent. The elder William's expression turned extremely grim, while the other elders exchanged puzzled glances.
Among those standing people, except for a few neutral elders, no one anticipated Delia's appearance.
"Welcome back, Your Highness, the future Queen!" I immediately stepped forward, breaking the silence in the hall. I knelt on one knee, placed my right hand over my chest, and bowed my head, signifying my loyalty to Delia.
Upon witnessing my action, the warriors standing behind the elders finally remembered their duties.
"Welcome back, Your Highness, the future Queen!" The warriors all kneeled, removing their helmets adorned with purple insignia with one hand. In unison, they echoed my words, offering respect for Delia.
"Wait!" the elder William shouted loudly. "Delia! She cannot be called the Queen!"
"William, this... this goes against tradition," someone protested.
"Yes, we cannot defy the instructions of the Moon Goddess."
"According to the royal traditions, Delia is indeed deserving of the title of Queen."
The elders surrounded the elder William, continuously trying to persuade him.
Dammit, Kral should be on his way now. Vivian, disguised as Kral, would be exposed as soon as the elders argue with him. No one could suppress the imposing authority of the elder William.
Nervously, I stared at his angry face. Suddenly, he roared, "A queen without a wolf? It is a disgrace to the royal family! Even if it's the Moon Goddess's idea, I will never accept it!"
"Who says I can't shift into a wolf?" Delia, who had been silent all along, spoke up. Her voice was calm and clear, like the song of a bird in a quiet valley, easily overshadowing everyone else.
I looked up in astonishment, gazing at Delia. The morning light filtered through the glass above, illuminating her smooth skin. The golden flowers radiated a dazzling light, reflecting in her azure eyes.
"Elder William, are you forcing me—the Alpha's daughter of the Red Moon Pack, Prince Kral's fated mate, and the Queen appointed by the Moon Goddess — to publicly demonstrate my transformation?" Delia's once gentle eyes now gleamed like a sharpened blade, revealing a chilling glint.
Her voice was gentle yet carried an undeniable authority. Taking a step towards the elder William, her eyes calmly lowered, and the golden lilies illuminated her face, as if the radiance from the Moon Goddess statue behind her had embraced her.
"I..." Elder William unexpectedly fell silent, choosing to step back under Delia's oppressive presence.
"Your Highness," General Luo Orison, who had remained silent all along, suddenly spoke up. He stood before the elder William and respectfully bowed to Delia, performing a customary gesture of respect in the royal court.
I furrowed my brow, feeling uneasy about General Luo Orison's interruption. If the elder William's dissent was due to Catherine's involvement, then what could be Luo Orisonn's motive? An ominous premonition began to wash over me.
"There is someone," the dissent continued, "who claims that he can prove whether or not you possess the ability to shift into a wolf."
A robust, silver-haired old general waved his hand, and the doors of the hall swung open, revealing a figure at the entrance.
"Perhaps we should hear what he has to say. After all, he is your father - the alpha of the Red Moon Pack," he said.
A middle-aged man with graying hair and a slender figure stood there, his face showing a barely noticeable unease.
"Delia," the man looked at the young girl in the hall and spoke with a hoarse voice.
Damn it, I nervously turned my head to look at Delia. Anger suddenly appeared on her calm face, and in a corner I hadn't noticed, a faint smile curved on the elder William's lips.
