It had finally stopped raining after two days of continuous drizzle. Lu Zhaoyang slept restlessly that night but without anymore nightmares.1

Reinvigorated, she prepared breakfast in the morning and even went for a walk with Huo Chen after their meal.

The air outside smelled of fresh earth and leafy greens after the shower.

Their morning walk did not prolong. The renovation works on the second floor were still incomplete.

After a busy morning and lunch, Lu Zhaoyang went back to her room for a nap but could not catch some sleep. She had a premonition that something had happened.

The more she thought about it, the more anxious she felt. In the end, she jumped out of bed and went to get her phone.

She wanted to call someone and ask if anything had happened back at home.

This was the first time she switched on her phone ever since she left. When the screen lit up, she was shocked by the nonstop beeping that signalled new messages.

Her mother had called her for so many times and sent so many messages to her!

She read one of the messages.

"Yang Yang, I'm begging you, no matter where you are, please give me call after you see this. I'm very worried about you!"

Lu Zhaoyang suddenly realized that she had been too thoughtless in not giving her mother a call after escaping.

Nevertheless, she dared not keep her phone active for too long for fear of being tracked by Huo Yunting.

She switched her device off and took out the SIM card.

Her heart was beating so fast it felt like it was threatening to burst through her chest.

She took her bag, put on a jacket, and left her house.

In a shop nearby, she bought a new SIM card and returned to her bedroom with it. She locked the door from inside with trembling hands.

Lu Zhaoyang inserted the new SIM card into her phone, but panicked before she began to dial her mother's number.

It was still early in the night back in the capital. Her mother should still be awake.

Lu Zhaoyang dialed the familiar number. She bit down hard on her lower lip as she waited.

The call went through soon enough. The other person answered with a soft and doubtful but also anxious voice. "Yang Yang, is that you?"

"Mum.. Are you alright?"

Lu Zhaoyang asked with affected calmness. She should have contacted her mother sooner.

When did her mother find out about her escape?

Suddenly, her mother began to sob.

"Yang Yang, come back, please! Come back with your uncle, I'm begging you!"

They knew…

"Mum, I want to make my own decision, just this once. It's too exhausting to stay at home."

She did not want to go back and face Huo Yunting. That was not going to happen.

Xue Yuming panicked some more and said, "He is your uncle by name, this is akin to being incestu — My dear daughter, come back. As long as you're willing to turn back, we can still salvage this!"

Lu Zhaoyang's lips turned paler and paler. In the end, she inhaled and said haltingly, "I don't want to go back. I know that he's my uncle. Nothing happened between us. I'm just tired and want to get away from the city."

"Don't lie to us. Everyone in the Huo family knows about your love history! The old missus is very angry. You can't both stay abroad forever! Come back!"
