Xue Yuming lectured her daughter, but was further infuriated the lack of response from the latter.1

"Lu Zhaoyang, know your place. You are my daughter, so stop fantasizing about the impossible!"

Xue Yuming glared at her daughter and clenched her fists so tightly her nails dug deep into her palms.

Lu Zhaoyang faintly curled her lips. She could not understand why no one believed her when she insisted that she did not intend to be together with Chen again.

She was Huo Chen's ex and also Huo Hunting's legal wife.

Now, she realised that her relationship with Huo Yunting must never be exposed or she and the Huo family will never have peace.

The consequences were unbearable. She hated Huo Yunting for this.

He must be the one who told the Huo family about her and Chen.

Now that their relationship was exposed, he still had not showed himself!

Xue Yuming finally left the dining hall, leaving only Lu Zhaoyang behind.

She examined her finger, took a medical kit, and used a simple plaster to cover her wound.

Today, Lu Zhaoyang continued to stay in her room most of the time, leaving only to prepare her meals.

Nighttime came earlier in winter. Lu Zhaoyang snuggled in her blanket, listening to the wind billowing outside. She held her phone tightly in her right hand, afraid that she would miss Huo Chen's call.

The seconds ticked by, but her phoned remained silent.

That was no surprise. He was injured and needed rest, and he was probably monitored anyway.

They would never be able to see each other again. Even a phone call was a luxury. What a sad and funny situation they had found themselves.

The only reason she was still in the Huo family residence was that she wanted to find out how Chen was doing.

Lu Zhaoyang hardly slept that night.

When the sun came up, she finally slept soundly.

She woke up a few hours later, late in the morning.

The first thing she heard when she went downstairs was old Mrs Huo's voice.

"All she can do is sleep! New Year is approaching and there is much to be done in the house, but she didn't even offer to help out!"

Lu Zhaoyang took a quick glance at the old woman before looking away.

There was nothing she could say to explain herself, so she might as well be quiet.

"Mom, don't be angry. Yang Yang is still young, she doesn't know about these things. However, it is wrong of her to wake up so late, I will make sure to teach her a lesson." Xue Yuming promptly tried to sooth the old woman.

Her resent for her daughter grew. If Yang Yang did not want to leave the Huo family residence, she should at least stop making trouble and angering old Mrs Huo.

Xue Yuming's position in the family was shaky as it already was. She might be kicked out of the family sooner or later.

If that happened, it would almost certainly be due to her daughter.

"What can I do?" Lu Zhaoyang approached old Mrs Huo and asked curtly.

"It's almost New Year. The furniture in the house needs some dusting." The old woman commented, her eyes never leaving the television screen as she spoke.

"Alright." Lu Zhaoyang replied flatly and turned to leave.

Xue Yuming watched her leave and looked at old Mrs Huo with reproach.

Was the old woman really treating Yang Yang like she was a servant?
