Huo Yunting seemed to have passed on some of his drunkenness to her. The next morning, Lu Zhaoyang found it difficult to wake up to her usual alarm.2

It took a few rounds of alarm before she finally got out of bed.

She ignored Huo Yunting and rushed outside to make breakfast.

Huo Yunting woke up by himself when breakfast was ready. He quietly finished his meal and even left before her. Through it all, he gave no signs of acknowledgement of what happened last night.

Lu Zhaoyang felt unsettled as she drove to work by herself.

Moments after she started working, she received an unexpected call from Huo Zhenning.

"Uncl —" She realized something was wrong before she could finish and immediately tried again. "Dad, what's up?"

"Yang Yang, are you free now? I'd like to visit Qiu Ran. Can you tell me where her grave is?"

Huo Zhenning sounded calm.

It had been almost half a month since the Huo Yunting's scandalous outburst.

Being outside the capital, she did not know how the upper class society took the incident, but it was almost certainly a disaster.

Theirs was an arranged marriage, designed to bring both families together.

The Qiu family continued to thrive while he divorced and got married again. Nevertheless, they had been husband and wife for more than two decades. He had hoped that they would both have closure and that she would continue to live a good life.

Her unexpected death came as a shock to him.

Lu Zhaoyang stood quietly beside him, unable to think of anything suitable to say.

After a while, she asked quietly, "How is my mum these days?"

"She's not doing so good, staying indoors most of the time." Huo Zhenning looked at her and sighed. "How's that idiot doing? He may be a scoundrel but he is still my son."

"He's… not doing so well too. He has been more quiet lately, but I will look after him." She took a look at the time. "Let's go."

They should not stay here too long, in case Huo Yunting found out about their visit.

"He is still furious about this matter, that is why he spoke so cruelly. I believe that your mother is innocent. She is such a kind person and I cannot imagine her trying to provoke Qiu Ran. Don't you worry, I will look after her too."

Huo Zhenning comforted her as they made their way to the car.

Lu Zhaoyang recalled the last time she visited Qiu Ran, the madness that she witnessed.

It was not her mother, but her. She instigated Aunt Qiu Ran's outburst!

"I hope that this will be the end of things. Tell Huo Yunting to let his mother rest in peace and move on."

Abruptly, Huo Zhenning hummed in exasperation. "I am already here in the city, but I know that he does not wish to see me, so I will give that a miss."
