Huo Chen suddenly stopped, as he wiped away a ripple in his eye. He looked at her bowing her head down, and twitching her fingers like a nervous child who had screwed up.1

Yet her eyes had a hint of anticipation in it, and he paused for a moment, as his brows met. His lips then formed into straight line, and after a while, he spoke.

"It's late, I'll send you home."

Wen He looked up, a flash of disappointment and hurt appeared in her eyes.

She knew, his refusal to answer meant there was a very disappointing answer behind it.

What was she actually expecting?

"Forget about it."

Wen He smiled bitterly, as a self-mocking smirk appeared.

She pulled her hand away from his, and forced herself to smile. With a wave of her hair, she said, "I'll go an accompany Xiao Bai, go on yourself."

Her paced was quick, her motion hurried.

Huo Chen looked on as her figure slowly disappeared.

He lifted his arm and simply pressed on the tip of his beret, and blocked out the flash of gloom in his eyes.

He then turned around, and walked towards the hostel complex.

That night, Wen He stayed in the medical room.

Huo Chen on the other hand, returned to his quarters, and stood by the window.

From there, he could see the field in the distance, a number of new recruits were in the midst of a high-difficulty training regime as they coordinated the shouting of their catchphrases, it was a sight to behold.

This scene was burnt clearly into Huo Chen's eyes, yet he was still impassive, rather he was lost in his thoughts, his usually calm eyes was in slight turmoil.

That question kept on ringing in his ears.

Huo Chen placed his hand on his forehead, the change of his expression imperceptible, as his thin lips let slip a low whisper.

As the cold wind blow, Huo Chen closed his eyes, and his delicate face seemed to be covered in a layer of frost.

Even if the sun were to shine brightly, it could not dispel the chilly aura around him.

Wen He woke up from the small bed inside the medical room. She stretched hard, and pounded her sore back, grumbling. "This bed sure is uncomfortable. If I knew that I'd not accompany you last night."

After brushing her teeth, Wen He lay on the sofa and crossed her legs up high in the typical fashion of a bad girl.

She took an apple and tossed it in the air a couple of times before starting to slowly peel it.

Following that, a long strand of apple skin drooped down, without any signs of breaking.

"When are you going back?"

Finally, Lu Bai could not help but ask.

"Where to?"

"Huo Chen of course."

Wen He's hand trembled, and the peeled skin broke off.

She looked up in frustration, and stuffed the half-peeled apple into Lu Bai's mouth.

"Even eating won't shut you up?"

The wound by the edge of Lu Bai's mouth almost tore, and he sheepishly bit the apple. As he chewed he glanced at Wen He.

He noticed that she was not herself today, her hands was on her chin, her brows kept meeting, as if she was being troubled by something.

His expression darkened, and suddenly asked. "What's wrong? Did Huo Chen bully you?"

Wen He broke out of her stupor, and rolled her eyes at him.

"You think Huo Chen is capable of bullying me?"

"Really?" Lu Bai's tone softened, but his words was still biting. "That's a shame."
