Gu Jinzhi regained his consciousness and coughed a mouthful of blood, dying the water around them a dark red.

Wen He took a quick look behind her to check on him.

She panicked even more at the severity of his condition and swam as fast as she could to keep him alive.

Gu Jinzhi opened his eyes. Though water was flowing past him quickly, he could still see clearly enough to make out Wen He's determined face.

She looked pale as a sheet and obviously in pain. There was a trace of blood on the edge of her lips. Her arm around his waist was trembling.

It seemed like she would collapse at any moment.

Nonetheless, she held on. There was a desolate kind of beauty in the way she refused to give up.

Wen He...

For a moment, Gu Jinzhi looked confused, as though he was on the verge of realizing something new.

He was not alone.

At this critical moment, someone was willing to risk everything to protect him.

"How nice...:"

He spoke without thinking. Water entered his mouth and started another round of coughing.

Blood plumes unfurled, riding the water currents. He blacked out once again.

Finally, Wen He reached the surface!

The men standing by the lake looked relieved. They went to them and pulled them both to shore.

Gu Jinzhi lay flat on the ground with his eyes tightly shut, looking drenched and deadly pale.

"Master Gu is unconscious!"

Wen He took a quick look at Gu Jinzhi and lay sprawled beside him. She said weakly, "He's fine, but he swallowed some water. Who's giving him CPR?"
