824、Left, and never will come again

The man growled in joy, "I'm really glad. Really, really glad to see you back alive." Wen He's eyes felt sore as tears knotted her nose, "R-really?"1

It was a beautiful confession yet it was done out of guilt. 

Wen He felt his lips rubbing against her passionately. She breathed in every bit of his scent, listened to his every growl as she felt the moisture over his lips. It was probably the last time she would ever get to feel his lips and his attention in her life. She leaned against him, watching the stars falling at the balcony as she was drowned in the silence. She soon fell asleep. She was not sure if she was completely drained from the mind battle she had for the past few weeks or Huo Chen's embrace really gave her a sense of security.

She was asleep. Soundly asleep. Huo Chen carefully lifted her like his own princess as he gently placed her over the bed on which he slept too.

"Wen He…" His lips parted slowly, watching the beauty in her sweet slumber.

"Thank you…" He whispered, landing a soft kiss over her forehead. 

Thank you for always staying by my side when I need somebody.

Maybe I'll never forget about Yang Yang. Maybe we would both end up as a pitiful sweet nothing. But it's not so bad to spend the rest of my life with Wen He like this. 

No, it's brilliant* to spend the rest of my life with her like this. 

"Good night." He retreated his arm and repositioned Wen He, spooning her, taking a deep breath of the scent in her hair. The smell of shampoo, the smell of her body—they were so soothing that Huo Chen closed his eyes. He slept deeply wondering if it was the traumatic experience of seeing his mother dead that worn him out so much.

The next morning, when the sound of men marching in the field woke him up, Wen He was no longer there. It was noon, the sun was blazing as Huo Chen rolled off his bed, only to spot a note on the desk. His serenity vanished when he took a look at the writing. 

[Breakfast is in the tumbler. I have left and I'll never come again. Update me on the divorce date.]

He ripped the notes into countless pieces. 

Why must you always do something against me whenever I have made up my mind on something? I chose to keep you and you chose to leave.

Is fate this capricious?

Are we supposed to go sideways? 

No! I am going to ask her! 

The phone rang all of a sudden.

"Sir," it was Song Shou, "The commander requested your presence at the base."

"Alright, be there."

Wen He decided to leave having seen Huo Chen returning to his old self as she started her life as a free-to-take-leave dancer inside the apartment. 

Gu Jinzhi rushed in, throwing the door open and sat on the sofa as if his own house. His legs crossed as the man glanced upon her, "Yes? Did you have a change of mind again? What nice stuff happened, eh?" 

"Go away." 

Is it me or this man somehow sees through my everything? Geez! If mind-reading is a form of sexual harassment, he's committing an assault! 

"Gu Jinzhi, I've decided to leave Country Z."

"Oh? Where to?" 

"Anywhere will do," Wen He muttered, "I just intend to never come back again."

Divorce or not, it doesn't affect me in one bit. 

"When?"

"I dunno, maybe the next few days?" Wen He pinched her forehead while acting calm, "If you don't cut the ties in time, you are meant to be entangled in trouble."

I had enough of me being not myself. How can I be so indecisive? I'm Wen He, a trained killer, the beautiful agent. I'm not gonna let this happen again. I'll leave and restart.

"If that suits you," approved Gu Jinzhi with a certain kind of stare upon her. 

It felt like admiration yet with a hint of sympathy. In his eyes, Wen He was the kind of strong woman who would not give up on her own standards no matter what. 

"I'll see you off when that happens," smiled Gu Jinzhi.
