847、Cry all you want

He recalled their conversation last night. The confession, the proposal, the hugs and kisses—they all appeared like a joke to Huo Chen by then.1

No point for him to do more since she chose not to trust him eventually.

The man could no longer find a reason to war for. 

Huo Chen felt it was probably the first ever time he got so hopeless. 

His hand lethargically reached for the shirt on the floor and tossed the cigarette butt onto the floor. He walked past Yang Yi and stormed out of the room as his feet ruthlessly stepped upon the ignited cigarette. It was as if he was numbed by despair. The piercing and heating pain did not get him as he headed straight down the stairs outside. 

Yang Yi shook his head having seen him like that, feeling complicated of an upcoming fall of a hero as he glanced at the screen still playing the footage containing Wen He bowing to the reporters. "It's all my fault. I am very sorry!" She announced. And an opened bottle of mineral water span towards her head as one reporter shouted furiously, "You shameless woman! How can you manipulate General Huo the national hero!" 

"What a sl*t!" 

"I feel very ashamed of you as a woman."

"How dare you!" A few crumpled tissue papers were tossed. The spinning bottle landed right onto her forehead. She was wet. Her forehead swelled up.

Her lips rubbed against each other while she hurried her way out under the escort of military soldiers. Nonetheless, the audience did not stop tossing anything in their hand at her.

If there were no soldiers, she probably would have been knocked to the ground by the angry mob. 

Yang Yi was feeling complicated about the situation. As a bystander, he could not comprehend the logic that justified the two lovebirds' thoughts at all. Huo Chen could give up everything for Wen He while Wen He was willing to take all the charges against her. It was certainly hard to tell if either of them was doing wrong since it was a relationship with deep emotions.

Yang Yi knew Wen He, at least his instincts told him that Wen He was the kind of woman who was simple and direct, willing to sacrifice herself to protect one she loved. That was why he had a gamble with Huo Chen and he won undoubtedly—all according to his plan. There was a contradiction between them by then and no way they could recover from it. Well—it was supposed to feel great but somehow the commander felt remorseful—It felt as if he destroyed someone's life… 

He shrugged and discarded such an idea. His thinking was justifiable since Huo Chen was such a brilliant young man that could one day compete with him and shake his throne. But just to be honest, the one who caused the entire episode was not him in the first place. 

Certainly, he intended to press Huo Chen into divorcing with that terrorist but never once he thought he would use such drastic measures.

"Like seriously—that Lin family likes minding other people's business too much, especially that Lin Kang…" muttered Yang Yi as he looked at the sky outside the conference hall while thinking that the general who broke the news to him should get punished too.

Wen He should have been sent under guard to the military zone, to be imprisoned specifically but Yang Yi rushed into the scene on their way, permitting her liberty to a certain degree. Basically, as long as she did not show up in public, she could do whatever she wanted with another condition that she would be 24 hour on-call for any of his commands. 

Wen He did not ask to return to the little apartment she once stayed with Huo Chen near the camp. Instead, she was brought back to the old building she rented as Karina in the city. The guards followed to watch her of course.

And yes, Gu Jinzhi was there looking at her endearingly. 

"Cry all you want." 

Wen He was like a puppet as she sat still on the sofa.

"Do you need a shoulder to cry on?" Asked Gu Jinzhi with his one brow raised.

Wen He did not respond to his offer. She asked a question instead.

"Gu Jinzhi, if you're Huo Chen, will you forgive me for what I did?" It took her half an hour to muster pieces of herself to inquire that. Her face was expressionless when she lifted her head.

She did remember Huo Chen confirmed that he would never forgive her if she ever did it.

"Do you want me to be honest with you?"

"Yes."

"No. Never. Ever." 

"..."

Her head lowered as she smiled wryly, "Thought so…"
