Channelling his inner Drama Queen
On the side, Xue Jie, the most senior of all four of them rubbed her forehead with a pained expression. Ever since Huishe Xiyue ascended into the celestial realm she had tried countless times to convince her to let go of her past, forget her family and focus on her new reality. 1
But Huishe Xiyue refused to let go. She had even caught her trying to intervene in her son's affairs which the Lord of the Celestials punished her for. She spent a hundred days in the frozen lake that chilled one's soul till it frosts over making one wish for death. But even then she would watch Rui Fei from time to time with tears in her eyes.
One can only imagine Xue Jie's reaction when the Lord of the Celestials picked Huishe Xieyue to lead the mission to restore balance. She had no idea what the Lord promised Huishe Xiyue because from that day onwards she was walking on clouds with a beaming smile that never seemed to diminish.
Xue Jie thought it was a very bad idea to give Huishe Xiyue this much power as she had personal feelings attached to this mission. Now that she had been proven right, Xue Jie wanted to take charge and fix this problem before it went out of hand.
It's just that other than Huishe Xiyue she had to deal with these two sisters fighting like cats over catnip. "Stop arguing and let's get this done otherwise when we get back I will punish the both of you," she said as she walked over to one end of the ill-written runes on the ground.
"Yes Xue Jie," replied the two women in unison with their heads bowed down. They took their positions forming a triangle and began to chant with blue luminous light seeping out of their bodies onto the runes. Soon the blue light shone within the inscription on the ground before an explosive light burst forth into the sky forming a beautiful pattern among the stars.
"So we are basically snitching on our sister.... how exciting," whispered one of them while rubbing the palm of her hands.
"It's not snitching when the Lord knows everything. It's more like submitting a verbal report," replied the other twirling a strand of her hair in between her fingers.
"I don't think sister Xiyue would take it as a verbal report. Snitching is snitching period... I hope she doesn't come down and pick a fight with us. She looks like she would beat the heck out of someone when she is mad."
Xue Jie looked up to the sky and said, "She will definitely see that light in the sky so be prepared for anything." Of course, Huishe Xiyue would see it. That thing looked like a fucking batman signal in Gotham. It was so vivid and bright that one could see it in space.
Meanwhile, the main hall was boisterous with loud jeers as food and alcohol flowed like it was spring festival. The true nature of the Nocru reared its ugly head with a little dash of the serpent's kiss. Ji Yao knew there were a lot of things that needed to be discussed but he didn't stop it.
He just wanted an opportunity to go over to the other side of the table and check on Rui Fei who had been stuck in a trance ever since he spoke to his mother. His mother kept placing food in his bowl urging him to eat up but he looked like a zombie feeding on brains expressionlessly.
Ji Yao kept pouring alcohol into his father's cup to get him drunk quickly so he can slip away but Ji Wen was like a bottomless pit drinking ceaselessly while remaining sober like he hadn't drunk at all.
Ji Wen who this entire time had been glaring at Rui Fei from across the table as though eyeing prey mindlessly drank the strong liquor. He only realised that his cup was never empty after almost ten full cups. That's when he turned his face in Ji Yao's direction and found him pouring liquor in his cup with a stern expression.
"Fuck, are you trying to make me drink to my death?" he whispered while pulling his cup away causing some of the liquor to spill on the table.
Ji Yao looked at the spilt puddle in displeasure as he grabbed a napkin and wiped away the spill. With a hint of annoyance on his face, he said, "Stop staring at him. You are making him nervous."
Ji Wen channelled his inner drama king and wailed like a husky while saying, "This son doesn't want this father anymore. Wuwuwu now that you have found love you have thrown away this poor father of yours like a dirty kitchen rag."
Ji Yao, "..."
"My poor heart aches. I thought a son would never leave me now I feel like I should have had a daughter instead," he carried on and this time he was shameless enough to lie on Ji Yao's shoulder while clutching his chest as though pained.
"Oh god, stop being a drama queen and get up," he whispered trying to push his dad off him but Ji Wen was an unmovable boulder stuck in place, "Tsk, ma... get your husband off me." He turned to Qilin Hao looking for help but Qilin Hao directly shoved a piece of shredded duck into his mouth while saying,
"I have been dealing with his whining all night and all day. I am exhausted as well. Maybe you can try and comfort him because I failed to coax him. Alas, maybe if he gets to that guy over there he will feel better. Last night he kept saying 'one slap, one powerful slap and I will accept him. If not a slap then I will make him drink till he passes out then I will feel better."
The 'guy' she was referring to was Rui Fei. Maybe it's a faze every father has to go through to accept their in-law if their child is an only child more especially a girl. But Ji Yao wasn't a girl. It's just that the fact that he might be marrying out and moving away made Ji Wen so anxious that yes, he began to channel his inner drama king.
"Out of the question. No one is allowed to touch him. You have already done enough damage," he said staring straight at Qilin Hao in an accusatory tone.
Fretful, Qilin Hao raised her hands in surrender and said, "I was wrong. I admit that. I shouldn't have hit him before but I wasn't even that excessive. Huishe Nan fuckin stabbed you when he first met you. Fine, he didn't do it with his own hand but he still ordered it so stop glaring at me like I committed the worst sin."
