Xiyue's story
While Ji Yao was trying to resolve the conflict between the two clans Rui Fei and Huishe Yue were trying to comfort Huishe Xiyue. She had tried her best to forget her past and stay unyielding but now that her business was broadcasted to the entire world a mix of emotions burst forth and she lost it.1
She was angry, sad and depressed all at once making her family feel distressed. With tears streaming down her cheeks she vented out her frustrations. It seemed she hadn't fully recovered from past events. That is to say, she was struggling with it internally only for someone to broadcast to the entire world her personal business.
"Why..... why did he have to tell everyone my business, huh? It's already hard enough for me yet he just... wuwuwu... is it fun for him to discuss my business in front of everyone," she said not even daring to look at her son.
Huishe Yue stepped forward and grabbed her trembling hand but she took a step back dodging him as she carried on.
"Does he think I want this? Does he think I want everyone to know what that monster did to me, huh? Does he think I want to carry that pot over my head? All for what? To further his agenda and help his daughter at my expense. Haven't I suffered enough....*sniffle?"
As she said this she hit her chest with her fist, sorrow and grief written all over her face. Her fingernails began to dig deeply into her palm but she didn't seem to notice as she drowned further in her emotions.
Huishe Yue noticed and tried to make her unclench her fist but at this point, Huishe Xiyue was already too drawn in her emotions unable to extricate herself.
"How could I have been that stupid? Back then I was so naive. I had everything then one day I had nothing. I couldn't survive by myself and wandered this foreign land with no family, no home. I searched everywhere for you..... but I couldn't find you. I thought if I can at least find you then I won't be alone."
"But I couldn't find you... I couldn't... I couldn't find you," she murmured staring at her twin brother. Wiping away her tears with her shaky hand she continued, "Since I couldn't find you I stayed in one place knowing that you would come and find me. I survived making trinkets like the ones mum used to teach me to do. I sold those hoping if I sell enough they might reach you and you would come to find me."
Slumping onto a boulder behind her she continued, "I sold so many and actually bought a small house in that human village. For a long time, I was mistaken for one because I had nothing on my body that could have me identified as a pureblood Nocru. I soon got tired of waiting. If it took you that long even after I sold those trinkets it must have meant that something had happened to you."
Hearing this Huishe Yue lowered his head feeling distressed. Where was he when she was waiting for him? He was in a dark prison and who put him there? It was Qilin Kai. If he weren't so weak would Qilin Kai have a chance to put him in that place? He had never hated himself this much for being weak. His hand clutching the side of his robe tightly he held back the tears threatening to fall.
"So I thought maybe I should just have a family of my own. At least then it would make it easier to live in this strange place. That was when I messed up real bad," she said rubbing her lower lip with her index finger her eyes glossy like she was about to cry again.
She sniffled with her gaze staring blankly into space. "When I saw him I thought he was just a normal human. He was standing by the riverside with a calm expression staring at his reflection in the water. I felt nothing at that time and just politely greeted him."
Her brow then furrowed as she continued, "But he said something..... He asked if I believed in fated encounter. I answered him after a long while and my answer then was yes. He finally looked at me and said he came looking for someone and that someone might have been me."
"Believe me I didn't fall for that shit as I was used to having such corny encounters in the clan and even in the human village. But from that day onwards he began to pursue me relentlessly."
"Every single day he would be outside my door with a gift and some sweet words but from the get-go, I knew this person was dangerous and that I should stay as far away as possible from him."
"The more I rejected him the more aggressive he became and I was left with no choice but to leave before he turned violent. With the help of the elders of the village, I managed to sneak out of the village at night. I remember the village head asking his son to escort me and protect me well."
"I knew that youth had feelings for me and I had actually considered being with him because his family had been nothing but kind to me. So I understood their meaning and accepted their help. Who would have thought that we wouldn't get far before Rui caught us?" She said with a self-deprecating smile as a tear flowed down her cheek.
"I... I," she stammered as her lips quivered, "I watched him strangle that young man's neck while disintegrating his body till there was nothing left. The look in that young man's eyes as he died still haunts me. No matter how many times I screamed at Rui telling him I will go with him he didn't listen. He just killed him..... just like that."
"I thought that was the end of it but I was wrong... That was just the beginning of my nightmare. He dragged me back to the village that was already burning to the ground. There were bodies scattered every where.... men, women, children, livestock... nothing was left alive."
She rubbed the palm of her still trembling left hand resting in her lap with her right thumb. "Because, because of me. They all lost their lives. He forced me to watch as he killed off those elders in front of me. 'If you run away from me I will kill everyone and everything that you love' was what he said to me as he forcibly held up my face to watch."
"That night he....," she paused as she began to inhale deeply attempting to stop herself from crying but it was futile. Tears came gushing down like the floodgates were opened. Unable to contain her sorrow she began to wail breaking Huishe Yue's heart. He rushed over and embraced his twin sister as she cried.
