He caught up with her only for Lady Ching Sei to halt her steps and say, "I thought you were curious about how the whole saga would end?"1

"Yep I am but I think spending time with you is more fun," he said as he stood right in front of her with a beaming smile.

'Fuck, he is a smooth talker,' she said to herself as she stepped aside before continuing to walk. If one looked closely they would notice her reddened ears. Zhang Li didn't even mention the fact that she was jealous mainly because he knew for a fact that she would be embarrassed and never dare show this side of her again.

"So cute," he mumbled to himself while watching her walk away.

"What was that?" she asked as she turned her upper body to look at him.

"Nothing, nothing. Where are we going? How about the bamboo garden. I heard it's romantic," he suggested already imagining himself on his knees under her skirt licking something delicious.

"En, let's go there," she said and the two of them disappeared into the darkness. How the romantic escapade ended was beyond Zhang Li's expectations.

Qilin Kai was a douchebag but there was a great disparity between him and Emperor Rui. Qilin Kai was a helpless romantic and his only crime was playing the hero saves the beauty. This would have been okay the beauty was indeed in trouble but in this case, the beauty was playing the victim hence playing two men at once.

she yelled her lungs out screaming and crying. He just wanted to shut her up and resolve this quickly so he can go be with his baobei. They had only been apart for a bit more than thirty minutes but he already felt itchy. He wanted to see him again.

Just when he was about to ask his mother for ideas the door was yet again pushed open and this time it was Tong Tong who came in rushing. He and his grandparents had been held in the same room as Wei Wei though she was the only one in chains.

He was so happy to see his mother and was glad she was okay but she was suddenly dragged away by the Huishe. Afraid they would do something harmful to her he convinced his grandfather to help him escape. The pair of grandparents that didn't want to cause trouble had obediently stayed in this room as it would increase their chances of survival. But seeing how pitiful their grandson was they broke down the door with ease and came to the main

hall.

"Mother!" he yelled as he rushed over trying to calm her down. When Qilin Kai saw this it poked a sour spot in his heart. Seeing his son hug his mother with a look of concern he shut his eyes as a sharp pain stabbed at his heart. Recalling what Pixiu Haoran had said to him before about Wei Wei suffering severe consequences because of him and that his son would no longer have a mother his heart shattered to pieces.

He didn't want his son to lose someone very important to him. The child had already lost his family that raised him for five decades as a precious treasure and now he was about to lose his mother. Qilin Kai couldn't help but blame himself.

He shouldn't have slept with her in the first place. Wasn't he fine being alone and completing his assigned tasks diligently? Why did he have to go on and fall in love with someone who was already betrothed to another man.

He didn't want his son to suffer anymore so he opened his mouth and said, "I did it..."

Wei Wei stopped crying and pointed at him saying, "Now take these off. You heard him. I wasn't in the wrong!" with bloodshot eyes.

Most people seemed to have expected this. It was only Ji Yao, Qilin Hao and Qilin Luse who had on complex expressions. Tong Tong who had been embracing his mother paused before turning his head stiffly in Qilin Kai's direction.

"Did what?" he mumbled staring at his father but Qilin Kai didn't open his eyes with a distant air around him like he didn't recognize his own son's voice.

Pixiu Haoran who had been adamant about his daughter's innocence suddenly felt a little complicated. His daughter's reaction was far different from Huishe Xiyue's reaction. Maybe it was because people react differently to trauma?

He got up and asked Huishe Nan for the key to the chains but Huishe Nan didn't make a move. He simply stated, "Under the old laws of Niuq I can only set her free under the King's orders unless the King revokes his position."

Pixiu Haoran's head stiffly turned in Ji Yao's direction uncertain of whether he should walk over there or not. Before he could take a step forward Ji Yao crouched down before Qilin Kai and whispered, "Is this the classic fatherly love? Is it because you haven't been a part of his life that you want to make up for it?"

Qilin Kai's eyes abruptly opened as he glared at Ji Yao like he was going to kill him just to shut him up. Ji Yao chuckled and said, "How honourable of you. Now I finally, see the similarities between you and Qilin Hao. Your method of protecting your cubs is the same. You think throwing yourself under the bus would make things easier for us but it doesn't."

"We grow up hating you because you ruined what could have been a perfect happy family but in truth, it will be killing us inside... If you could only be fuckin honest with us, just one time. Because our lives aren't better off without you."

When he said the last sentence his gaze shifted to Qilin Hao. These words were directed at her and the 'we' in this conversation was both him and Tong Tong.

"Captain," whispered Tong Tong with glossy eyes like he was about to cry.

Ji Yao got up and said, "Hug your father," but Tong Tong froze in place only to move when Ji Yao commanded, "That is an order."

Tong Tong was shocked but he still obeyed. He also wanted to hug his father but he didn't think Ji Yao would ask him to. Meanwhile, Ji Yao walked over to Pixiu Wei Wei the expression on his face not quite right. Whatever he was going to do wasn't anything good.
