Selfish desires
Seeing that he had no other choice Ji Yao sat opposite the Lord of the Celestials his expression ugly. He just wanted to bash this man's skull against the table but he restrained himself. He was in enemy territory and could only obey the rules of the grandmaster. 0
"Say what you need to say," said Ji Yao his finger tapping the table impatiently. The face hidden behind the sleeve slowly revealed itself. His lips as bright red a saffron with a glossy layer from the tea he placed the teacup down before picking up the other teacup and handing it over to him.
"Won't his majesty grace me by drinking this cup of tea?" he said holding the cup up but Ji Yao didn't make a move to pick it up. A crooked smile appeared on the man's face before he continued saying, "why are you reluctant? It's not like we are performing a wedding toast in our bridal chamber or maybe... does his Majesty prefer wine. I know your lover would be especially upset if he finds out."
"What do you want?" said Ji Yao repeating the same question. "If you want to kill me then go ahead and stop wasting time."
The man's face looked displeased as he harshly set the cup down spilling a few drops on his fingers. "Have you seriously considered the implications of making such a decision?... There is a thing called the yin and yang, a balance between two opposing forces that keeps the entire system in check. Like a scale, both sides need to remain balanced otherwise if you add a little on one side or remove it from the other the entire system fails."
Ji Yao wasn't up for a weird physics lesson but since he was stuck here anyway he was forced to listen.
"These two ends of the scale are the two worlds and you Qilin have constantly threatened this balance throughout the ages. It was your ancestor who poked a hole in the paper window and influenced the beliefs of the still developing human society. They began to worship your kind as gods but fortunately, the damage wasn't as significant."
He waved his sleeve and the kang table vanished before images made out of yellow dust-like particles began to form. The images were of the incident fifty years ago that tore apart the land of Niuq as hundreds of families were separated from their loved ones.
The pain, hurt and grief in their eyes as wails and mourns filled the air tore his heart apart. Maybe it was because of his awakening as the King of these people that he felt their sorrow.
"Painful isn't it? Let's not mention the weaker species that suffered serious losses due to war. A lot of lives were lost in that war... a lot of blood was shed all because two worlds that weren't meant to coincide were forcibly united causing a lot of pain and grief. This was the handiwork of the Qilin... Your grandfather's handiwork which your mother actively participated in."
"That is to say these two worlds were never meant to mix because when they did disaster strike. Now you are telling me..... that you want to combine both worlds. State your reason," he said as the dust particles formed two images one spherical like the earth and another a planet with a flat plane on half the surface.
Ji Yao stared at the two worlds with a meaningful expression as though seriously thinking it through. But the great Lord's patience was wearing thin. In a cold voice that could freeze hell over, he said, "You better speak otherwise I will end you now and solve the problem right here."
Ji Yao wasn't at all perturbed. His gaze slowly shifted toward the man sitting opposite him and said, "To be with Rui Fei..."
The Lord of the Celestials, "....."
What a stupid, childish reason it was for someone to put the fates of both worlds in jeopardy for one's selfish desires. The dust particles suddenly changed from an image of two worlds into a blade with no hilt.
With a whoosh, it grazed the skin on Ji Yao's neck causing his hair to flatter with the sharp breeze.
To his surprise, Ji Yao didn't flinch or move at all like he was ready for his death. There was no light in those beautiful eyes.
"Apart from that, I want families to reunite with their loved ones just like Huishe Xiyue did. Our worlds are already blended together with families torn apart and I want them to be together again. That's all I ever wanted for myself and for everyone.... a happy family.
"You are projecting your own personal feelings on everyone else. Because of your selfish desire, you are using everyone else as an excuse," responded the Lord of the Celestials as the blade drew blood.
The corner of Ji Yao's lips quirked up and he said, "I can't make up for what my ancestors did neither can I make up for what Qilin San did.... but now that it has happened I can only make it right and the right thing to do is exactly that."
The man's lips twitched as he glared at Ji Yao hesitating on whether to press down his sword and cut off Ji Yao's aetherial veins or not. That in his eyes would be considered mercy. At least he wouldn't be dead. He would be useless waste that might get shunned by his loved ones and thrown out of his clan to fend for himself.
But... he still wanted to give him a chance. The easiest solution was right in front of him. Kill Ji Yao and restore balance. Yes, Ji Yao's family and clan would retaliate but to him, they were more like ants at the soles of his feet. As for Ji Yao's little lover... he would most likely blacken and slaughter everyone in grief.
That vision had him slowly removing his blade as glared at Ji Yao. Wasn't this deliberately pushing him into a trap? If Ji Yao dies then the whole point about restoring balance would be meaningless.
His expression softened as he chuckled lightly, "You pair of love birds are truly putting me in a bind aren't you? I kill one and the other goes on a rampage. I would have to kill you both at the same time so that neither of you would cause trouble."
His blade vanished and he said, "I must warn you. Your plan will attract bigger enemies. Like I said the scales need to be balanced. Now tell me..... how do you as king propose to handle this situation? I am very curious to know how you are going to fix this mish mush."
Ji Yao, "....."
Did this man have to have a creepy smile while asking that?
"Oh, and I will monitor you for a while just you know... to supervise you. I will trouble his majesty to host this lowly one for a while."
Ji Yao, "WTF"
The amount of vinegar that was about to spill will overflow into the rivers and mountains. How interesting.
