Huishe Yue eating vinegar
By the time Huishe Yue finished with Qilin Kai the man was thoroughly angered that he almost fought with him. Why he was doing this was obvious. He was doing it for Lan Wu. He wanted to sever his ties with Wei Wei and marry Lan Wu.2
But Lan Wu who had been in the room with him just now didn't know this. He was just worried that Huishe Yue's words would hurt Tong Tong who was vulnerable right now. So he took Tong Tong outside and patted his shoulder in comfort.
"You don't have to mind Huishe Yue's words he didn't mean to say that about your mother," said Lan Wu as he watched the tear-stained face with a hint of sympathy.
Tong Tong's eyes were red at the corners and his cute nose was also flushed. He looked especially pitiful with tears flowing down his cheeks.
The boy was about to wipe his face with the back of his sleeve when Lan Wu took out a handkerchief with his characters embroidered in one corner.
He wiped away Tong Tong's tears like a doting father and said, "Don't cry anymore. He really didn't mean it."
Tong Tong sniffled with his chest rising and falling trying to catch his breath. After calming down a bit he said, "I know... I am not crying over that."
"Then what is it?" asked Lan Wu recalling how many times he had caught Tong Tong crying when he first boarded Blue Urchin. He would pretend to be strong and wipe away the tears claiming he wasn't crying. After the first week, Tong Tong didn't cry anymore instead he took Lan Wu as a surrogate father. Maybe it was because Lan Wu knew his father. Now it turns out the man who he thought was his father wasn't.
Twisting his sleeve with his fingers he said, "Would you still have helped me if you..... if you knew that Huishe Yue wasn't my father?"
Lan Wu couldn't believe that this was what was in Tong Tong's mind. Of course, he would have helped him still and raised him as his own.
"If you didn't find your father I would have adopted you right now. You are precious to me either way. Whether you are Huishe, Qilin or Māo (cat) clan it doesn't matter to me," he said with a comforting smile that made Tong Tong feel much better.
"Uncle Lan there is no such thing as Māo clan," said Tong Tong chuckling.
Lan Wu raised his brows acting all surprised as he said, "Really? There should be because you look like one," as he reached over to pinch Tong Tong's nose like he always did but before he could even touch his skin Lan Wu's hand was grasped tightly before it was pulled away.
Huishe Yue entwined their fingers together and placed both their hands in his pocket. Lan Wu felt a little embarrassed with the tips of his ears turning red. Due to excitement he unknowingly released some of his seraphic energy and a cool icy chill seeped into Huishe Yue's skin.
An unconscious smile appeared on his face as he stared at Lan Wu intently. He wanted nothing more than to kiss Lan Wu's thin lips and get a taste of that frosty chill like last time. His lackey tasted like a snow cone in the middle of the hot summer. Both are refreshing, delicious, and satisfying.
When his gaze shifted to Tong Tong his expression cooled by a few degrees but he wasn't hostile just nonchalant. "If he treats you badly you can find your grandparents. You might not be related to them by blood but they still love you," said Huishe Yue while handing him a wooden box his mother told him to give Tong Tong.
"You are always welcome on Blue Urchin. She will always be your home," added Lan Wu. He wasn't sure where Qilin Kai would take Tong Tong in the future. Since this might be goodbye he took a step forward to hug the little cat again but he was suddenly yanked by the collar.
"That's enough. You don't have to keep hugging him. It's not like he is going anywhere," said Huishe Yue his tone as sour as unripe grapes.
"Oh my gosh. He is old enough to be my son for heaven's sake," whispered Lan Wu through gritted teeth. How could he not know what Huishe Yue was thinking? The man was eating vinegar for no reason.
Tong Tong watched the pair and couldn't help but smile. When he awakens he would also want to find someone to fall in love with and spend the rest of his life with.
The smile on his face grew wider as he turned on his heel absent mindedly only to be met by his father's face. Startled he yelped as he took a step backwards.
Why didn't this man make any sound when he walked? It was like getting snuck up on by a ghost. Even a ghost would give off an eerie atmosphere as a warning in advance.
"Don't even think about falling in love early. Haven't you learnt from my mistakes," said Qilin Kai with his arms folded across his chest. He could easily identify that look on Tong Tong's face.
At some point in his life he thought falling in love would be a good thing considering how much abuse he was getting from his uncle.
But who would have thought his luck was as bad as his uncle's. At least his uncle got rejected by her but he was accepted and even gave her his first time.
Only for him to wake up and she disappeared like Cinderella at the ball. What was he supposed to do back then? Single-handedly start a war with the Huishe clan by himself just to rescue her.
Resentful he could only swallow it back and devote his entire life to her. At that time he hoped she would divorce Huishe Yue. He would gladly bring her home and make her his wife but after finding out that he was used to mop the floor and ruthlessly thrown away he just wanted nothing to do with her.
Looking at his vulnerable son he didn't want him to suffer the same fate as he did. Thus he issued a stern warning from the get-go.
"I am not, I promise," he said with his head lowered.
"If I believe you then I am a dog," said Qilin Kai before pulling him away.
Meanwhile, Lan Wu was being pressed against the pillar with both of his wrists restrained above his head. "Ah..... Yue-ge, what are you doing?" whispered Lan Wu his face as red as a tomato.
"That kid is almost the same age as you," said Huishe Yue as he lowered his head his expression a little sullen. Their interaction bothered him so much. It was as though he was afraid he would get robbed of his man by a little cub.
Lan Wu, "....."
Come on the kid was both mentally and physically young. Even though he had seen the sunrise as many times as Lan Wu it didn't mean anything. Tong Tong's mental age was obviously that of an early teen.
"You are overthinking it. Now stop messing around. What if someone sees us," replied Lan Wu wishing he could knock some sense into Huishe Yue.
