Code red!!
The crowd jeered even louder praising the king of the sea's ability to educate the younger generation. Ji Wen smiled like a resentful ghost as he watched him get up from the ground.1
He felt like all his past grievances had been swept away at this moment. This was the kind of treatment he needed so he could calmly watch his son commit his life to this man. At least now he won't be daydreaming of strangling Rui Fei when he watches them bowing to the parents at the ceremony.
Rui Fei wiped the dirt off his face with the back of his hand while glaring at Ji Wen his eyes as sharp as a blade. The words, 'Prove that you are worthy of my son,' echoed in his mind. He was worthy of Ji Yao. No one else but him was worthy of Ji Yao.
He rushed over cleanly taking on an offensive stance. His fist clenched he swung at Ji Wen but the man moved away at a speed comparable to that of a cheetah. Having escaped that predicament Ji Wen wanted to yank Rui Fei's arm and pull him to the ground but Rui Fei was as slippery as a bottle of olive oil.
Rui Fei leaned backwards and before Ji Wen could react his abdomen was kicked causing him to stagger a little. Rui Fei took advantage of his daze to deliver a blow to his face but Ji Wen kicked him in the chest both of them suffering a loss.
Ji Wen who hadn't had this much fun in a very long time laughed loudly with a slight grimace on his face from the pain as he paced left to right holding his abdomen.
"Shit," muttered Rui Fei clutching his chest with a twisted expression. He had never fought this seriously without seraphic energy. He never thought it would be this difficult. He suddenly realised that if it weren't for his grandfather instructing him to disengage his aether and get the feel of the double-bladed sword without his seraphic energy he might not have been able to handle this fight.
"What? You can't handle it? What did you think this was? A game?" said Ji Wen finding pleasure in taunting him. Ji Wen's father used to train with him like this and he would use the exact same words to stimulate him. Because his father was human he had to disengage his aether and level the playing field.
He had once fought like this with Ji Yao and accidentally hit his son in the face. It was because of that incident that he was glared at by his son for six months straight and the boy didn't talk to him no matter what. That kid was the grandmaster of keeping grudges.
After that, he didn't dare scuffle with Ji Yao in hand to hand combat. But now that Rui Fei had landed at his doorstep he somewhat had a bold idea. He would scuffle with Rui Fei in place of Ji Yao from now on. Isn't it that this man was now also his son.
Rui Fei who had been insulted got up abruptly and the two of them stared at each other icily like predators in the same territory. This time Ji Wen launched an offence. He made a move to sucker punch Rui Fei right in the face but Rui Fei blocked his offence. The block was effective but Ji Wen wasn't giving up easily.
Using much of his strength he sent a powerful uppercut right into Rui Fei's gut and the boy staggered backwards. He brought his fist flying again.
Rui Fei felt like his insides had been rearranged but he didn't have the luxury to laze around. When he raised his head he saw Ji Wen swing his fist again. This old man truly wanted to ruin his face.
Seeing it coming he moved in flash steps his right foot pivoting towards the incoming punch. With a whoosh, he snapped out a knife-hand strike with his right hand and struck Ji Wen's torso. He immediately followed that up with his left elbow striking straight into Ji Wen's face.
Blood seeped out from the corner of Ji Wen's mouth as he spat out a tooth. He suddenly tackled Rui Fei and the two of them fell to the ground with a thud.
For his throbbing face, Ji Wen gave it back to him twofold. He punched Rui Fei twice before Rui Fei managed to push him off. The two of them separated and stood on opposite sides their expressions fierce. One had a swollen eye and the other one had a bloodied swollen jaw. Their hair was dishevelled their clothes stained with dirt but none of them seemed like they were going to relent.
"You are better than I expected," said Ji Wen his impression of Rui Fei even better than before. He was suddenly glad his son was marrying a man, not a woman. He couldn't have a hand to hand combat fight with a woman, could he? This was very very good.
"Now that you know don't you want to give up so we can all go and prepare for dinner. You know your son's temper. He will blame me if we are late," he said with a smirk so vile that it provoked Ji Wen.
"If you are so worried then you should give up. I am not the one who would be banished to the cold palace," he said in a mocking tone.
The pair was about to start fighting again when a familiar cold voice brought the small arena to a standstill. "What are you two doing?" asked Ji Yao shaking off Qilin Hao's hand. She had been trying to pull him back and convince him to go elsewhere with her but the more she tried to stop him the more he struggled.
"It's not what it looks lik-," said Ji Wen only to be interrupted by Zhang Li running in.
"Kaka-āā kaka-āā," he signalled like a bird before yelling, "Mother hen has left the coop. Code red! Code red! Fuck...," he swore when he finally noticed Ji Yao standing there with eyes as cold as a glacier.
"You! Weren't you supposed to be keeping watch? Why do you have rouge on your mouth?" yelled Ji Wen as a burst of lightning flashed in the sky.
Lady Ching Sei popped her head from behind Zhang Li and he finally understood. These two instead of looking out for Ji Yao and signalling him that he was coming they were making out. Talk about having pig teammates.
The one crying tears of blood here was Rui Fei. All he wanted was to give his sweetheart snacks and enjoy the gift his sister prepared for him later tonight but now he was possibly going to be banished to the cold palace. Ah, so much drama.
