Discrimination

In as much as Ji Yao enjoyed being swept off his feet like a princess and carried over the threshold like a newly wedded couple his face wasn't thick enough for him to be carried around the imperial city in such an inglorious manner. 0

After taking two steps past the imperial city gates he whispered in Rui Fei's ear, "You can put me down now... everyone is looking."

Rui Fei pursed his lips staring at those magnificent eyes through the veil. He truly enjoyed parading around with Ji Yao in his arms because in a way he would be showcasing his relationship with this man to everyone. In simple terms, he was literally saying, "MINE!' without actually saying it.

So based on this conjecture he was basically going through an endless stage of a phenomenon classified as the toddler syndrome a.k.a 'mine' phase. Since he couldn't have what he wanted he could only think of another way to make this memory last longer.

After a brief moment, he said, "I can put you down but... can you paint this exact scene for me?" After saying this his body froze in anticipation of the answer. Rui Fei knew even if Ji Yao refused he still had to put him down but he couldn't help but put forth a request in exchange.

Ji Yao who had painted plenty of questionable paintings of the two of them couldn't help but nervously fidget with his fingers. Should he say he had already painted it or should he just pretend he didn't have it already and then wait a couple of days before showing it to Rui Fei?

The only problem was that the robes they were wearing in that painting were different from now. Since it was this memory Rui Fei wanted he said, "Sure..... just give me some time."

Rui Fei who had been granted his wish almost squealed in delight like a little schoolgirl. He was just so happy that he wanted to directly kiss Ji Yao's lips but the veil was obstructing him plus there were so many people watching. He was thick-skinned but not that thick-skinned.

"My baby is so sweet and generous," he said putting Ji Yao down but even when he did put him down he clung to him so tightly like he was afraid a robber would just swoop past and thieve him away.

Ji Yao didn't seem to mind letting him hold his hand freely and without care. The two people following behind them didn't care as well with one of them savouring this moment like it was some type of delicacy.

The people on the streets however didn't adopt the same attitude. Why? It was because in their society such behaviour was regarded as very improper. This sort of public display of affection was popular in the brothels not in broad daylight.

The Nocru helping to rebuild the city didn't even give them a second look because they knew Rui Fei which meant the person walking beside him could only be their king. Because he was covered with a veil they couldn't immediately tell but seeing him hold hands with Rui Fei on the street it became obvious.

Ji Yao did notice the odd looks they were getting but he couldn't give a fuck. The opinions of strangers who did not influence his life will naturally not affect him. Thus he could ignore those looks and strange gazes. He was after all the Pirate King's son.

Rui Fei was also aware of this but his reaction was slightly different from Ji Yao's. He honestly wanted to beat the shit out of all of them so they can stop staring but he couldn't because Ji Yao wouldn't approve. He just held Ji Yao's hand tightly and refused to let go.

The Rui siblings were a whole different matter especially Rui Li. She had already unsheathed her sabre as a sign of warning as she walked behind her older brother and her in-law. Her threat was obvious enough and the timid ones looked down while others kept staring as though not afraid.

What could a little girl do to them? Rui Yewan was also displeased but like his brother, he also knew that if he acted rashly Ji Yao might not approve. He could only put a muzzle on Rui Li just in case she goes rampant.

As expected shortly after someone started trouble with the pair of lovers. It is just that the person was rather unexpected. She was an old woman and based on her clothes she was part of the treacherous noble class.

Her hair was a little dishevelled from the fleeing but her dress was still immaculate and her face didn't look like a person who had fled from her home in fear for her life.

Behind her were her maids and manservants carrying all her possessions. She was originally sitting in the sedan chair but when she had reached the imperial city she decided to walk in the streets and assess the damage to her beloved homeland.

Her expression was ugly seeing all the damage by those barbaric Nocru but it turned even uglier noticing two men holding hands in the street.

Most people would have minded their own business and moved on but she was different. She had already endured days of living in the dense forest with poor conditions hiding from a conflict that had absolutely nothing to do with her. So yes, she wanted to mess with someone else's day.

Without any consideration to who she was provoking she deliberately bumped into the one wearing a veil and spoke harsh words. Logically one would refrain from provoking anyone, especially with the current state of affairs but when she saw these two she had assumed they were a pair of nobodies doing something unacceptable in the eyes of society so she went for it.

Most of the citizens here would probably back her up as they all had the same ideology. This wasn't the first time a same-sex couple was chided in the imperial city and now that people were dissatisfied and forced to flee from their homes only to return and rebuild they needed an outlet. Thus she would give it to them.

Ji Yao who had been struck in the shoulder remained calm watching her with an air of indifference. Rui Fei on the other hand wasn't calm. He wanted to snap her neck from the get-go but Ji Yao held his hand to stop him. He wanted to see how far this person would go and sure enough, he wasn't disappointed.

Hateful slurs not even worth mentioning were thrown out there as she directly pointed at Ji Yao scolding him. "You are a man. You should behave like so and not act like a woman so that someone can marry you and take care of you. How disgusting..... the pair of you are disgusting," she said attracting the attention of passersby.

A few murmurs of agreement echoed around them as they praised this noblewoman for teaching the younger generation. Regular folk had been suppressed by Nocru and half Nocru for years. It was because of this that some of them naively thought that if their population was higher they could at least resist this invasion. Thus their take on same-sex couples who directly cut off the ancestral line and did not contribute to the increase in the birth rate was especially negative.

It is also crucial to remind everyone that for decades the imperial city was constantly bombarded with such a sickening doctrine thus their reaction to Ji Yao and Rui Fei was especially negative.

"Who the fuck do you think you are? You are so fuckin dead. DEAD I TELL YOU SO FUCKIN DEAD!!!!!"

That was the voice of Rui Li and it only got louder when her brother held her back. She was ready to swing her sabre and chop this hoe into mincemeat.

"Aww..... how pathetic. You all are as disgusting as the Nocru. Pei," she said before spitting on the ground right before Ji Yao's feet, "you even have to have a little girl defend you. Are you still even a man."

Ji Yao who had been calm this entire time finally lost his shit. His OCD kicked in and he could no longer bear it. The sky that had just been clear right now suddenly turned dark as clouds gathered from every direction.

He had brought a lightning storm upon her and the entire city making them cower in fright.

As lightning struck the buildings that had just been reconstructed, Ji Yao took off the straw hat on his head and came face to face with the woman who was so fond of spitting at people just because she didn't like them.

The woman who had been talking big just now was so terrified she fell to the ground in a panic and broke down her face ghastly white like a ghost.

She was wrong. She should have kept walking and vented her dissatisfaction at her servants instead. Now she had provoked someone she shouldn't.
