She plays for both teams
Xiao Yùnqì had witnessed the little conflict between brother and sister and thought his question was better suited to ask now so as to restore her good mood. 1
"Li-er, why.... why do you like watching two men get together? I am, I am just curious," asked Xiao Yùnqì while Tong Tong leaned closer curious to hear her answer.
Rui Li, "..."
No one had ever asked her this question. Why was she a fujoshi? Why did she find joy in seeing men find love with men? And did she have the same thrill when men found love with women? Or when women find love with women? For a moment her brain short-circuited.
The females in the Huishe clan had once called her weird and disgusting. At that time she had curled up in a corner wondering if her preferences were weird and why she was like that. At that time Rui Yewan had stroked her head comfortingly and said,
"Just because you have a preference different from them doesn't mean you are weird. Focus on what makes you happy as long as it's not harming anyone. If you want someone to share the joys of the things you like you can share with us your brothers. Don't share it with people who would never appreciate it because they will make you feel less than when you aren't. No matter what Li-er likes we also like, okay?"
Sure his heartfelt words led to her using him as a mannequin but as long as it put a smile on Rui Li's face he was willing to do it. He cried foul now when he saw that outfit but whenever he recalls that smile he would consider it worth it.
Rui Li looked at her brother and when their gazes met she gave him a beaming smile that made Rui Yewan terrified. He had no idea what she was thinking about but it couldn't be anything good, right?
"What?" he asked considering whether he should run or stay put to see where this goes.
"Nothing. I just want to say you are an amazing brother. Here let me pour out some wine for you," she said while tilting the bottle and showing her respect to her older brother.
Rui Yewan looked like he had been struck by lightning. If he hadn't been sitting next to Rui Li the entire time he would have assumed it was poisoned. Not that it would kill him. He might pass out or have a rash, something along those lines.
Rui Li happily passed the cup to Rui Yewan and as he received it he looked at her as though asking what's the occasion.
Rui Li smiled at him as though waiting for him to drink but no matter how long she waited he didn't drink it.
The smile on her face sank as she clenched her jaw tightly her eyes as sharp as knives. "Drink it," she spoke through gritted teeth. Her words managed to frighten Tong Tong and Xiao Yùnqì who had nothing to do with it.
If they had cups in their hands they would have subconsciously reacted and drank despite the fact that she wasn't talking to them.
"Okay, okay..... calm down," said Rui Yewan with his scalp tingling recalling how painful it was when she pulled his hair. Yes, he evened the scoreboard as well but he strongly felt his scalp had suffered more losses. He was even afraid to run his fingers into his hair just in case some clumps of hair fall out.
He downed the cup in one fell swoop and Rui Li smiled happily before patting his back twice. She then turned to Xiao Yùnqì and asked, "Why do you want to know?"
Xiao Yùnqì who didn't expect that question cleared his throat to gather his courage and said, "It's not that I have a problem with it. On the contrary, I find it quite interesting thus I am..... am curious to know the reason."
Rui Li felt like his reason for asking was reasonable so she took some time to think it through. She recalled the feeling she felt the first time she read a romance novel with a same-sex couple.
She didn't even realise then what she was reading had two men getting together mainly because she was still learning to read and mixed up the characters. And because of her age restriction, it was more of a shounen-ai than yaoi there wasn't any smut to enlighten her.
If it weren't for Rui Yewan explaining it to her she wouldn't have known that her favourite novel didn't have a man and woman getting together but a man and a man finding love. When she reread it she felt even more excited than when she read other novels.
From then on her path was set. She sank deeper and deeper and she especially loved the feeling. So what was it about this special genre that hooked her so much that she happily cheered for her brother to win her saozi in real life?
Three things: one no inherent inequality between the men based on gender, two there was no hero complex and three she liked watching good looking men get together. It was as simple as that.
Not everyone would understand but that's how she saw it. How to put this point across for the other party to understand seemed like a challenge. She could only explain it in the simplest way possible.
The pair listened to her tentatively and could grasp her meaning but that also brought about other questions. Tong Tong leaned his body forward and then asked, "Do you feel the same way about women getting together with women?"
Shuijing who had been drinking some tea choked on it after hearing that question. She wasn't listening in on their conversation but she definitely heard that question. She was also curious about the answer so she tried to hold back her cough.
Rui Li tucked her short hair behind her ear and answered honestly. "I haven't read novels where women fall in love with other women so I don't know if I would get the same feeling. But, I wouldn't mind trying it," she said not realizing how ambiguous her words were.
She only realised it after receiving curious gazes from three pairs of eyes including Rui Yewan.
"Try, trying it?" stammered Xiao Yùnqì who suddenly realised his competition had doubled.
"I meant reading it," she said giving Xiao Yùnqì a sense of relief but that was only short-lived. What she said next was like pouring a bucket of cold water on him.
"I don't mind though. Guy or girl, it doesn't matter. As long as they make my heart flutter," she said shrugging her shoulders.
Xiao Yùnqì, "....."
He didn't like his odds, especially with determined candidates like Shuijing. She was probably restraining herself because she wasn't certain which team Rui Li played for. But now that she had found out Rui Li was pansexual she would put more effort into her conquest than just watching from afar.
