Rui Fei understood what he meant but he couldn't accept it. He just nodded obediently not wanting to cause trouble for Ji Yao. A slight smile appeared on Ji Yao's face as he wiped Rui Fei's tears away with his thumb. 0

Without much thought, he drew the man closer and planted a heartfelt kiss on his lips in reassurance. As the warmth from Ji Yao's lips transferred to his body and seeped into his heart he felt a little sense of ease.

He was sure Ji Yao wouldn't push himself too far and risk his life to complete the task. Ji Yao was well aware of how special he was to him so he wouldn't do anything that would cost him his life.

Thinking this way Rui Fei watched him as he silently prepared to complete the task. Ji Yao was standing beside him while controlling his seraphic energy to draw a circle with a radius of about two meters.

As the two lights forming the circumference of the circle converged a burst of eternal flames mixed in with sizzling blue sparks appeared forming a circle of protection that made it difficult for someone to break through and get to him.

As someone who had bore the excruciating pain of being burnt by Ji Yao's eternal flame he suddenly understood the seriousness of this matter. One has to understand that Ji Yao's eternal flame was somewhat of a rarity that he only brought forth in emergencies.

One of the few times he was forced to channel such flames was when he was trying to prevent Rui Fei from following him when he battled the Yinying creature. That unfortunate incident led to Rui Fei having a taste of how it really feels to be burnt by eternal flames.

Since things had already escalated to this point Rui Fei vowed to do everything in his power to make sure Ji Yao succeeds in completing this task.

Ji Yao walked over with a satisfied smile and said, "Okay, I think I am ready to do this just.....," before pausing while staring at Rui Fei, "just be careful."

Rui Fei felt a ping in his chest as he swallowed his emotions down with his adam's apple bobbing up and down. He should be the one saying that to Ji Yao especially when the man was doing something never attempted before.

"You too. Don't push yourself hard. I don't want you to get hurt... If you get hurt, I will hurt too," said Rui Fei while reaching over to touch Ji Yao's hand and as his fingers entwined with Ji Yao's he caressed the back of the man's hand with his thumb.

He then proceeded to pull Ji Yao closer and slid his other hand on the man's cheek caressing his skin with a hint of possessiveness in his eyes.

Ji Yao stood on his tippy toes and planted a kiss on Rui Fei's lips again. The kiss was extremely gentle like he was trying to comfort the both of them. It was like he was trying to convince himself and his lover that everything was going to be okay.

Rui Fei could feel the slight tremble in Ji Yao's lips indicating how nervous he was. To calm his lover's turbid emotions Rui Fei slid his fingers to the back of Ji Yao's head and drew him closer deepening the kiss.

While the two figures pressed against each other with occasional whimpers and groans echoing in the empty bamboo forest, sounds of fighting and arguing were heard from afar forcing them to pull apart.

Ji Yao opened a path within the ring of fire and urged Rui Fei. "Go... the sooner I finish this the better," he said before gently pushing him out of the circle of protection.

Rui Fei reluctantly stepped out but he also knew there was no going back. He could only force his legs to move forward and do as Ji Yao instructed.

Just as he took a step out of the circle of eternal flames he sensed a powerful force coming from behind him. His heart thumped as a sudden wave of anxiety struck him. His breathing quickened with his body sweating profusely.

With a slight turn of his head, he looked backwards and saw Ji Yao standing in the middle of the circle, his eyes closed as massive spheres of energy surrounded his palms. The white spheres were growing exponentially as though drawing energy from an ample source.

As they grew bigger and bigger Ji Yao's indifferent expression cracked slightly revealing an inexplicable emotion.

At a glance, he looked fine but if one took a closer look they would notice the veins on his neck and temples were throbbing and his forehead was covered in a layer of sweat.

Rui Fei was so scared that he wanted to walk through those flames and try and fix things but before he could make a decision on whether to listen to Ji Yao or not a figure approached from his side trying to attack Ji Yao.

Angered, Rui Fei engaged his aether. With a whoosh sound, the twin blades unsheathed and in one swift motion, he struck the incoming person and blood splattered in an arc in the air.

The person fell back a few feet inevitably crushing into a few bamboo trees along the way. As the person got up while clutching their bleeding chest Rui Fei's body froze.

How could this be? What was going on? Qilin Hao who had been protecting Ji Yao just now was now rushing over to stop him and judging from the killing intent coming from her body she wasn't going to end this matter at that. She wanted to kill her own son.

He stared at her confusedly that's when he saw something strange within her eyes. Those cunning eyes were replaced by a lifeless deep gaze like she wasn't herself anymore.

"Shit!" he swore as he dodged her attack. This was only the beginning of a terrible ordeal.
