Mind control
Rui Fei couldn't figure it out nor did he have time to make sense of it because something even more bizarre occurred. Ji Wen also sprung up from nowhere and descended from the sky dangerously approaching Ji Yao as though to attack him too.2
When Ji Yao told him to protect him he didn't think he meant he should protect him from his family. Something was definitely off. With a speed invisible to the human eye he knocked out Ji Wen and then proceeded to put a barrier around Ji Yao for extra security.
At this rate, he might be fighting the entire Nocru and half Nocru race in the imperial palace. His conjecture wasn't wrong. Soon after that, a wave of Nocru rushed over in their direction with listless eyes.
This fight escalated to a one vs thirty and counting. Rui Fei felt his blood chill to its freezing point as he watched them attack at the same time. He didn't know how he was supposed to defend Ji Yao from all these people.
Ji Yao's consciousness had already been drawn in by the power he was wielding so he didn't even know that his boyfriend was facing off with a lot of people some of whom should be their loved ones.
Rui Fei clenched his weapon tightly with his chest heaving deeply. He had to make sure to stop them from attacking Ji Yao without hurting them severely which proved to be a challenge for Rui Fei.
As soon as they approached within four feet Rui Fei made up his mind. With a bellow he transformed into his true self and midway through the transformation he swept the crowd with his body and sent some of them flying a great distance.
Dust rose to the sky from the collision with the force from it taking with it half the bamboo trees leaving behind a bald patch. Rui Fei coiled his body around the protective barrier surrounding Ji Yao in preparation for the second wave of attacks.
His brow knitted in frustration he realised that if any of them changed into their true forms there would be nothing left for the both of them except eminent death. He had to find another solution and fast. But what he was afraid of didn't happen.
Instead, Ji Yao who had been holding the two spheres in his hands suddenly reached his limit.
With a loud roar, he slammed the spheres into the ground and as soon as those massive balls of energy hit the surface an enormous explosion occurred sending everyone flying including Rui Fei.
The imperial palace they had painstakingly worked hard to restore was once again struck by a vast outburst rocking it at its very foundation.
Powerful streams of energy beams kept flowing out of Ji Yao's body as he struck the curtain keeping the worlds apart. Soon seven colourful balls of light appeared within the chaos and fused with the light beams shooting out from Ji Yao's palms.
Ji Yao grimaced in pain as the colourful streams of light from the keystones began to crawl into his aetherial veins like gentle streams of water. But there was nothing gentle about the pain they inflicted on Ji Yao.
The energy of the keystones was somewhat attracted to the power of Acany seed circulating within Ji Yao's aether. He had to push back and redirect that energy to opening the portal but it was extremely difficult.
He found himself subconsciously crying out in pain. It was these cries that brought Rui Fei back from his state of unconsciousness. His ears ringing he opened his eyes and dazedly looked around.
It was late midday with the sun high up in the sky but everything was pitch black like night.
He spat out dirt from his mouth as he struggled to get up. Every part of his body was sore but he resolutely ignored it as he struggled to stand up. He finally managed to get on his feet but everything was spinning.
He could vaguely hear Ji Yao crying out but he didn't know where the sound was coming from. "Ah-Yao," he said in a hoarse voice as he took a step forward.
But everything around him suddenly froze and the inky darkness was replaced by pure whiteness that was blinding to the eye. From where he stood he saw a hazy figure sitting far away on a chaise. He instantly knew that everything happening to them today had something to do with that figure.
He suddenly had a burst of energy like he had been injected with chicken blood as he rushed over to that figure. "YOU! IT WAS YOU!!" he yelled as he tried to engage his aether approaching that figure but his steps suddenly froze and he could no longer speak anymore.
The person raised their index finger with their gaze lowered reading something. The fog in Rui Fei's eyes suddenly cleared and he could now see the person clearly. It was a tall beautiful woman with a friendly aura surrounding her but Rui Fei wasn't fooled.
Anyone who could control the minds of plenty of purebloods wasn't one to be messed with. After a very long time, she finally raised her head and smiled causing a chill to run down Rui Fei's back.
"Ha..... do you know that I can control any being dead or alive but I seem to not have the ability to control the Nocru's seraphic energy in their bodies and compel them to change into their true form... how puzzling," she said with her finger tapping her chin.
Her finger suddenly stopped as the graceful smile on her face grew wider. "I also can't control that boy who is playing king neither can I control you. Fascinating, isn't it?"
"That kid I get. I mean being the king of Nocru is serious business. A few years down the line his power might even supersede that of a celestial. But you on the other hand..... you are a mystery."
After saying this she stood up from her seat and examined him closely from head to toe as though looking for an answer.
