Successful unification
A bright beam of light shone in the clouds of dust as a loud rumbling sound resonated in the air as the barrier between the two worlds cracked. The light vanished for a second. It was because of this that the surroundings within the clouds of dust fell into darkness. 2
Rui Fei could vaguely hear people coughing and others calling out to each other in the dust through his ringing ears. Clutching his abdomen he struggled to get up but his head throbbed like someone had stabbed through his skull making his vision blurred.
As he fell back down he raised his trembling hand and touched his temple. A sticky liquid covered his fingertips. He dropped his hand slowly before staring blankly at his blood-stained fingers. He knew he was hurt but when he thought of Ji Yao's state earlier he could care less about himself.
Riddled with anxiety he forcibly engaged his aether attempting to get up and teleport towards the circle of eternal flames that was still flashing a dim light within the mist.
But it seemed the universe was playing a joke with him today because the light beam that had clearly vanished earlier came back with a vengeance ten times more powerful than before and blew his body away despite him struggling to steady himself.
In fact, Ji Yao wasn't done. When he stopped earlier it was because he could feel the strong power from Niuq seeping through the cracks of the barrier.
His eyes flashed a dazzling white light and his expression seemed a bit crazed making it hard for one to associate this person with his regular personality.
He didn't seem like himself. As that intoxicating power seeped into his aether Ji Yao felt his strength grow exponentially. The more he absorbed the more he wanted to shatter the barrier.
His body suddenly felt a burning desire to transform. His aetherial veins greedily sucked the power from Niuq and redirected it to his muscles deep to his bones rearranging every part of him at a molecular level.
His breathing quickened with the veins on his neck throbbing. Like an inflated balloon on the verge of exploding, he bellowed in the dust and his body transformed to its true form as a beam of white light shot out from his mouth.
The explosive impact caused everything within a kilometre radius to be sent flying while levelling everything around be it bamboo trees or buildings. As the white beam struck the barrier, cracks spread at a rate faster than the speed of light.
Ji Yao who had exhausted himself half to death abruptly stopped like his batteries had run out on the spot. His half Qilin half Raiju form froze midair as an eerie silence filled the cloud of dust.
With a loud thud, Ji Yao weakly tumbled to the ground with the light in his eyes dimming. His true form was shrouded in the light again and he suddenly transformed back to his human form. He had passed out cold so the eternal flames also died down.
As soon as he passed out the shattered barrier stood still for a second with the light in the keystones on the ground beside Ji Yao dimmed down like they were about to lose their essence.
Just as one thought the barrier had survived its ordeal the keystones cracked and turned to ash resulting in the barrier collapsing immediately.
The cracked pieces turned to dust combining the two worlds as one across the continent.
It was a legendary moment that could go down in history as the day everything went to shit or the day the human, half breed and pureblood Nocru rose to greatness.
But no one was there to see that exact moment neither on earth or Niuq. That's because the entire stretch was ridden with a dense smog making day appear like night. Vicious clouds had also gathered in the sky and the thunderstruck accompanied by violent winds like a ferocious storm was impending. As expected large droplets of water soon splattered on the ground making an already bad situation worse.
Rui Fei who had passed out after being thrown against a boulder suddenly opened his eyes as droplets of heavy rain hit his body hard. Every muscle in his body was screaming at him but he still struggled to get up. His lover was alone. He had left him alone despite telling him that he would be there for him.
He had to hurry up and be by Ji Yao's side and not break his promise. After much struggle, he got on his feet with the rain soaking his clothes and hair making him feel heavier.
He stumbled a few steps before engaging his core and vanishing on the spot. In a split second, he reappeared just before the circle of protection with its flames long died down. Unable to support his weight he tumbled on the ground a couple of times further injuring his already weary body.
When he opened his eyes he saw a lovely figure flat on the ground unmoving. "Ah-Yao!" he called out in a brittle voice like he was about to cry.
He was in so much pain and could barely get up. This left him with no choice but to crawl over to Ji Yao's side. The distance was relatively short but to him, it felt like he had crawled up to the highest peak of Mount Everest.
His fingernails dug into the wet soil and he cried out weakly. "Baby..... wake up... Yao-ge, please," he whispered in an almost pleading tone. An intense pain like the one he felt when a sword pierced through Ji Yao's flesh came to him five times stronger. It was excruciatingly painful that he couldn't hold back his tears. If it weren't for the rain pouring down on his body his face would look even more heartbreaking.
When he got to his lover he knelt before him and turned Ji Yao's body over as he was lying down face down on his stomach. Ji Yao had his eyes closed with his chest heaving lightly to show he was breathing.
"Baby, I am here," said Rui Fei as he sniffled, "I am, I am here, okay?"
As though perceiving Rui Fei's presence Ji Yao's eyelids twitched but he didn't wake up. With his trembling hands, Rui Fei felt around Ji Yao's body for any open wounds but there was nothing. Relieved he took Ji Yao's hand and went through the storage ring on the man's thumb looking for anything that could help.
Soon he took out a few bottles of healing elixirs but he also knew that in Ji Yao's current state he won't be able to swallow them down. Without much thought, he poured the contents of one bottle into his mouth and lowered his body before pressing their lips together. With little effort, he forced the liquid down Ji Yao's throat feeding him mouth to mouth.
