The city of kings
Obsession, at first sight, was indeed an accurate depiction of what Rui Fei felt the first time he laid eyes on Ji Yao. And the more he got to know him the deeper he fell into the pit. 1
The thin line between love and obsession vanished in such a little time. If asked he would never admit that within his love of Ji Yao there was an insummable amount of obsession.
"Okay, you are right. It might not have been love at first sight but I already had my eyes on you. I couldn't stop thinking about you and-," he said before Ji Yao interjected,
"And would appear in my dream space every night? You do know you scared the shit out of me, right?"
Rui Fei was so embarrassed. At that time he hadn't fully mastered the use of his seraphic energy that had been suppressed since birth. At first, he couldn't stop thinking about Ji Yao hence assuming he was dreaming about him while asking where he was.
But he soon realised it wasn't a dream at all. Instead, it was a skill unique to him. He could find anyone as long as he had been in contact with their seraphic energy as long as they were in close proximity to his location.
But because Ji Yao was at sea ninety-five per cent of the time it meant Rui Fei couldn't find him no matter what. The day he found out it wasn't a dream driven by his strong desire to find Ji Yao, Rui Fei now actively tried to find him.
Now that he looks back it must have been frightening for Ji Yao back then to see a black shadow of someone he was afraid of in his dreams. Rui Fei felt a tinge of guilt.
"Was I that scary back then?..... Wait are you still afraid of me?" asked Rui Fei as his beautiful slithering body spiralled around Ji Yao while flying in the air.
Ji Yao was smiling but it couldn't show in his true form. At best the flames around his body burnt brighter making him even more dazzling than before. "You were but now the only thing about you that scares me is your stamina. Can we have a serious discussion about that?" replied Ji Yao in a playful tone.
"Like I said before if I do that then my baby won't be satisfied," replied Rui Fei as his chest almost burst forth in excitement recalling the stuff they did before. Before he could sink deep into his lewd memories Ji Yao said,
"You look extremely handsome in your human form and even more handsome in your true form. I like it a lot."
Rui Fei who had been praised by his lover for his looks spun around him excitedly and said, "Your true form looks extremely handsome too."
After that Ji Yao felt like kissing Rui Fei but it seemed a little inconvenient right now. Instead, he transformed into his human form and fell right onto Rui Fei's Huishe body hugging him tightly.
Rui Fei, "..."
"I am tired..... can you let me ride on your back for a while," said Ji Yao as he lay his head flat on the smooth back of the Huishe. Of course, Rui Fei didn't mind. He flew steadily in the sky devoid of all his prior playfulness.
"Okay, you can also sleep if you want to," said Rui Fei as he followed his grandfather who was leading the way. Maybe it was because of his prior experience or the fact that he had just recovered Ji Yao fell into a deep sleep and didn't even feel the cold wind.
That's because Rui Fei had erected a dark barrier around Ji Yao's body making sure that the light from outside wouldn't affect the person sleeping inside.
By the time Ji Yao woke up, they had already reached the city of kings. Despite it being unoccupied for thousands and thousands of years the city was still intact like residents were still living in it.
Calling it a city would be simply the norm but in truth, it was one humongous palace that was as big as a city. Ji Yao couldn't understand why it had to be that big in the first place. The palace was strategically positioned.
It was right at the centre of all six major clans making it a point of convergence. By the six major clans, it included the Qilin clan whose city was now deserted, the Pixiu clan, the Kunpeng, the Huishe, Fenrir clan and the Raiju clan.
The rest of the clans resided beyond the six major clans. Ever since the old system was abolished the city of kings was unoccupied because occupying it meant one was proclaiming themselves as King. The conflict between the Qilin and Huishe had been extended into this city at some point.
That's because the Qilin weren't resolved and hence tried to occupy the city claiming that it was their turn to rule. Of course, they didn't succeed and suffered great losses but who would have thought thousands of years later a half Qilin would be directly occupying this city under the old system.
Ji Yao jumped off Rui Fei's back and stepped into this enchanting place full of mystery. One would think since it hadn't been occupied for that many years it would be old and dusty with run down furniture and cracking walls but it wasn't.
It looked like a freshly built apartment with new furniture and stuff. As he walked down the passageways behind Huishe Nan the lanterns along the walls lit up bright showing them the way.
Maybe it was the influence of the kings who came before him that he felt more at home as he walked down that corridor. It was an inexplicable sense of belonging like this had always been his home. None of it made sense but he couldn't deny it.
When they reached the end of the passageways a grand hall was revealed and on the walls were the portraits of those who came before him. It was probably his illusion but he saw a look of appreciation and moral support in those unmoving eyes.
Ji Yao slowly walked over to the last king and his eyes finally fell on the last of his kind that was murdered by the Qilin to speed up the process of a new child being born with the Acany seed. He was as young as he sounded before he was released from the bounds of that seed in his aether.
That child had been wronged and it was his clan that did it to him all for selfish reasons. Ji Yao reached out to touch the portrayed when he felt a pair of strong arms wrap around his waist from behind.
