A Strong Throwing Arm
After a while, I could no longer hear the sound of their footsteps.0
Holding my crowbar in a tight grip, I slowly opened the door and peeked my head out into the hallway. It turned out to be completely bare of anything that resembled an actual person, which caused me to signal for Rei and Kohta to follow as I stepped out of the room that all three of us had been hiding inside.
The three of us began to walk down the quiet hallway, making sure to keep our guards up for anything that might pop out all of a sudden.
"Dante... you think our families are okay?" Rei whispered, sticking close to me as we looked through every classroom that caught our eyes.
I hummed to myself, thinking about it inside of my head before I decided to give a response. Yuriko was definitely doing alright in that big ass mansion. Plus, the entire estate had multiple security guards that worked around the clock to keep watch on everything that happened.
The only reason that I'm so capable of getting by them with such ease was because it was me. It was just that simple. On the other hand, these were just regular zombies.
However, it might be a different story if there was actually more than just one variant... I'll have to talk with her about it once I get the chance.
"We can only hope, Rei. There's no telling how bad it might be right now for some other people. You just need to focus on surviving as best you can so that you may one day find out." I quietly replied back to her before we heard an unfamiliar voice in the distance.
"Get away from me, you stupid fucking monsters! Leave me the hell alone!" Just from the tone, I could tell that it belonged to a female. However, I wasn't sure whether or not it was a teacher or a student. It didn't really matter either way, to be honest.
Turning a corner, I saw around seven zombies trying to get at a girl that was limping away from them in a panic. I quickly began beating on the nearby lockers with my crowbar, which attracted their attention and made them lose interest in the terrified student.
Raising his modified gun to eye level, Kohta aimed down the sight before shooting a zombie's soft head with a nail, going directly into it's rotten brain. The walking corpse dropped to the floor only to reveal another one moving behind it, which seemed to be attracted to Rei as she began fighting off two other undead students.
The next nail that was shot went through the zombie's neck. However, that didn't appear to be enough to stop it from moving, which caused Kohta to shoot again. Streaking through the air, it penetrated an eyeball before ripping through the other side and out of it's ear.
That was certainly enough for it to drop dead on the ground afterwards.
"Hehehe!" Kohta grinned at that, his eyes filled with a barbaric satisfaction as he killed them.
With swift movements, Rei dodged both of the zombie's attempts at grabbing onto random parts of her body. Once she found the perfect opportunity, the digging bar that she was using pierced through the mouth of an undead and came out of the back of it's head.
"Ha, got you!" Rei cheered, which she wasn't able to savor for very long as the one right next to her actually grabbed onto an arm before opening it's mouth wide, teeth just inches away from biting down on smooth skin.
Her eyes quickly widening, she knew that there wouldn't be enough time to react, not that she really could to begin with since the digging bar she was using just so happened to get stuck at one of the worst moments possible.
Kohta noticed that fact as well, panic settling into his body. Unfortunately, as he tried his best to aim for a good enough shot, it was simply too risky with the position that they were in. It would've been a very high chance that Rei would also get hurt as well in the process.
As I had just finished killing my third zombie, a loud scream that belonged to a very familiar voice from behind me instantly caught my attention.
"DANTE!"
Turning an entire 180 degrees, my eyes locked onto the sight that Kohta was helplessly staring at as he kept attempting to find a suitable shot in order to kill the undead student that was about to turn my girlfriend into one of them.
From the way that the zombie's teeth were closing in on her arm, even I could acknowledge the fact that I wouldn't be fast enough to reach them in time. However, with enough strength behind a well-aimed throw, my crowbar was definitely able to get the job done. Especially with the perfect position that I was in. I mean, the zombie's head was directly in my line of sight.
Quickly reeling an arm back, it shot out of my hand once I let go of my tight grip on the handle as my arm extended. The crowbar flew through the air at a high speed before violently bursting through the side of the zombie's head in a gruesome spray of blood, lodging itself into it's broken skull as the opposite end came out of the other side like a devil horn.
Not only that, but the strength behind the throw caused the already dead zombie to keep moving with the crowbar that was stuck inside of it's head. The large window that provided us with a view of the high school campus shattered into a million pieces as the undead student flew through the newly made hole and limply fell to the ground below before the crowbar perfectly sunk into the dirt all the way at the bottom.
Rei fell onto her ass, trying to catch a breath as she turned to look at me in shock. Kohta was pretty much the same way, although he was still standing on two feet.
"Dude... how did you just do that?" Kohta mumbled, staring at me as if I was an actual alien. It wasn't in a bad way, though. There was a certain look in his eyes however, which were kind of unnerving to be honest, especially coming from someone like him.
I always knew he was at least a little crazy in the head.
Rei slowly picked herself back up before walking towards me, long brown hair overshadowing her eyes. Before I could even get a word out, my mouth was sealed shut by my girlfriend, who had grabbed onto my shirt and mashed our lips together in a combination of mixed emotions and pure love. I could feel her body slightly shaking in my embrace, which let me know that she was on the verge of crying.
To be honest, I couldn't blame her. She was extremely close to getting turned into one of those undead things and I really wasn't looking forward to having to kill her if that actually happened to be the case. Just because I had the resolve to do it didn't mean I fucking wanted to.
"Thank you... so much, Dante." Rei whispered, quickly wiping away the few tears that had began to run down her face. I placed a kiss on the top of her head, giving the pretty girl a genuine smile.
"Of course."
The person who we had saved cleared their throat, awkwardly standing and watching our intimate interaction as they leaned up against a wall, clearly tired from running away from the small group we had just gotten rid of.
All three of us turned towards her, straightening back up as Rei and I separated from our hug.
"Hey, my name's Miku Yuuki. I'm sorry if I interrupted anything between you two just now..." The girl introduced, sheepishly rubbing her arm as she gave us a lopsided grin.
(The picture of her appearance will be here.)
