Chapter 252 – Learning to cook Sabrina’s favorite dish

It was already late by the time Robin left the warehouse so he could not call his grandmother Cecilia, to send her driver to bring him the keys to the villa, only getting through Margaret the housekeeper to inform her to prepare the house for his return.0

Margaret was surprised and since there was so much to do, he woke the maids to get to work whilst she supervised.

"The master is returning home. Get his room ready. Remove the linens and begin cleaning everywhere, and he would have some things delivered in the morning," Margaret said to the maids.

It was past midnight but the activities in the villa at a time like that were as if it was daybreak.

Robin went to sleep in his office but woke up early to go and check on Sabrina at her mansion before passing by the boutique to get some clothes for himself and Sabrina, glad that he knew her size now like the back of his hand.

After that, they drove to Devin's penthouse.

"Robin, come on in, I will just finish up on the phone," Devin said when he opened the door for him.

It was not hard for Robin to locate the kitchen and went there before Devin returned.

Devin had already purchased a lot of ingredients and was only waiting for Robin's arrival since he wanted both Robin and Sabrina's first date to be perfect.

He was glad, as he remembered how Sabrina complained about Robin messing up her date with Martin and Daniel knew it was all because Robin knew a lot about Martin that neither of them knew by then.

"So, Robin, what is Sabrina's favorite food?" Devin asked seriously but Robin was a little lost here.

"You should be the one telling me."

Devin shook his head as disappointment flashed in his eyes.

"Robin, I thought you would figure it out before getting here. How many times did you ever see her eating at home?"

Robin felt guilty since during those times, he never cared.

He wished he could have just allowed the bodyguards to finish off Zayla but that would still happen anyway.

"Hardly. It's only at the mansion that I see her eating pasta at most times when I eat there."

Devin smiled and asked him again, "and you still can't figure it out?"

Robin never saw it that way but that was exactly what Devin was telling him and his handsome face creased a little.

"Her favorite food is pasta?"

"I must confess that I was so upset with her upon her return and liking something completely different from what she used to like before."

"She still eats her favorite salads and other foods if I prepare or order them for her but she never enjoyed them like pasta."

Robin could not help feeling that Sabrina's change to liking pasta must be because of him, which gave him mixed feelings.

"Sabrina likes pasta?"

"I figured it was because she cooked it for you so much that it became her favorite food too," Devin explained but Robin began to sweat.

If pasta was Sabrina's favorite food, then his doubts superseded his faith that he would ever be able to impress her with all that he was learning.

"I have eaten a lot of different kinds of pasta since she left but none of them tastes like the one she cooks."

"That is because she uses our mother's recipe and the life-changing ingredient is the sauce," Devin explained with a sad smile, as memories of their mother flooded in again.

"I see. Daniel taught me how to make pasta."

Devin was glad because that would save them time.

"So I will teach you how to make Sabrina's favorite sauce and you shall cook the pasta for me to see."

"Okay," Robin agreed so Devin went on to say,

"The ingredients you need are crushed tomatoes, onion, garlic, butter, dried basil, salt, sugar, pepper and other good flavors. I have packaged all these for you to take along." He lifted a paper bag full of groceries and Robin smiled,

"Thank you."

"To save time, I would direct you on what to do with the ingredients and oh, my sister added a chicken breast recipe to her pasta and after everything is done, she would add it as a side dish."

"True," Robin remembered that part of Sabrina's pasta always having a lot of evenly cut chicken breasts.

"So, you can begin dicing the onion," Daniel instructed and Robin got to work. He was not as fast as either Daniel or Devin but he cut everything neatly and perfectly, Devin was impressed that the guy was not just a business guru.

"Use a garlic press to press the garlic," Devin continued to instruct and Robin kept obeying. "Now heat your olive oil."

Robin took a saucepan, put it on fire, and poured a fair amount of olive oil, setting it on the stove as Devin said,

"Sauté the onions and stir frequently until they soften and shine for about three minutes. The onions should sizzle and hiss as they cook, just as you are doing now. Add the garlic and stir to combine. This would prevent the garlic from burning."

He observed as Robin followed his instructions perfectly before adding,

"Allow it to cook for an additional two minutes before you add the basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and sugar."

Robin obeyed and Devin said again,

"Stir to combine. Add butter. Then stir and cook for one minute."

Robin was very serious and since his date was in a few hours, he was not messing things up at all.

"Add half a can of the crushed tomatoes. Scratch the bottom of the pan to remove any stuck-on bits. Reduce heat to low. Now add the remaining tomatoes. Stir in a quarter cup of water. If it's too thick, you can add a little more water."

Robin was smiling, impressed by the mixture in front of him.

"Now you have to allow the sauce to simmer for ten minutes up to one hour. If you are simmering it for a longer period, stir the sauce occasionally and add additional water as needed to keep the sauce at the correct consistency."

Robin nodded his head and did as told whilst Devin folded his arms to his chest, watching him with interest.

Since it's simmering…."

The doorbell rang and Devin was confused.

"I'm not expecting anyone but I will go and check. You can begin with the pasta whilst I get the door."

Robin began to boil the water for the pasta and remembering Sabrina's side dish, he began to salt and pepper both sides of the chicken breast when he heard Sabrina and Matilda's voices from the living room.

"Devin, what is that aroma coming from the kitchen?" It smells like tomato sauce. Are you making pasta?"

Sabrina was the one asking and the interest in her voice made Robin smile.

The water for the pasta was boiling and Robin lost concentration.

When he was about to pour the uncooked pasta into the hot water, his hand rested over the hot lid of the simmering sauce and pain ripped through his body.

"Ouch!" Robin screeched.

"Devin, who is in the kitchen?" Sabrina asked, and even Matilda and Lizzy's brows were raised questionably.
