Chapter 265 – Zayla’s hope crashed.
The change in the sound of the beeping monitor attached to Zayla's wrist alerted the doctor that she was awake and she walked over to her.1
"How are you, Miss Chance? My name is Doctor Karen."
The doctor introduced herself politely, Zayla felt that she was very kind, and maybe, she could get a favor from her.
Because of the two policemen and two military men around, Zayla did not state what she wanted directly, putting it differently,
"I feel pains all over my body. Can you remove the cuffs?"
She sounded as if she was dying and her throat was already dry and hoarse from not taking in any food or water for days.
The doctor smiled but her response did nothing to warm Zayla's heart.
"I'm sorry Miss Chance. I am only supposed to ensure that you recover but as for those chains, you already know what it entails and the only person who can authorize its removal."
Zayla was already looking horrible and her feelings matched her looks at the doctor's statement.
She wanted to ask about the painkillers when the doctor added,
"As for your pains, some painkillers would be able to relieve it but is there anything else?"
Zayla shook her head as the doctor administered the painkillers.
There were no nurses around and she could tell that this was not a normal hospital, feeling that even if she was able to break out of the chains, she might not be able to find her way out.
Maybe, if her father woke up, he would have an idea of what they could do to get out of here, and this time around, she was sure to do whatever her father said.
Robin tricked her and she fell for it, letting out vital information but since she was still alive, she only had to find a way to run away from it all.
"How is my father?"
"He would be fine," the doctor responded curtly, as Zayla looked at her father on the next hospital bed.
He was still unconscious but as she remembered all the torture he went through, she even wished he had died.
That kind of torture was too much for a fragile man like him who was already close to his grave.
"How long will I be here?" She asked, hoping that they might transport her somewhere and she would get the chance to escape.
"Well, Mr. Jewel made it clear that you can't be discharged and would be beginning a trial so we shall take care of you until you are strong enough to begin the trials."
The revelation ached Zayla and she feared not being able to escape but was also sure that she would not be able to endure another torture.
Those military men were ruthless but the one that hurt her the most was seeing Robin watch whilst she was being tortured.
He was equally heartless.
However, he was still her little hope, as memories of how nice he was to her before began to flood her mind.
Perhaps if she could see him in private, she would be able to convince him to show mercy and let her go after all that she had been through.
It was just because she loved him to the point of obsession and was willing to do anything to have him.
Zayla hoped that Robin would understand.
"Can I see Mr. Jewel?" She asked hopefully, the doctor responded,
"Since you are awake, I will inform him that you are awake and see what happens next."
Zayla was satisfied with the response, as the doctor put a call through to Robin.
"Mr. Jewel, she's awake."
"Alright." The call ended.
"What did he say?"
The doctor looked at Zayla pitifully, knowing that she might be permanently blind in a few years to come due to the torture she went through.
There were still bruises on her face and generally, her skin color was a combination of black and white.
"I don't know," the doctor shrugged. She already knew of Zayla's offense and regretted pitying her.
"Please, I have to see him," Zayla said in a pleading tone but only earned the doctor's irritation as she said firmly,
"Miss Chance, you know that Mr. Jewel doesn't like to be controlled. If he wants to see you, he will come and see you since he knows you are awake."
"Okay."
At the office, Robin put a call through to Devin.
"Zayla is awake. Do you have anything to say to her?"
Devin had a mischievous smile on his face. Zayla was the reason why his sister suffered so much.
It was good that she wasn't dead and would live the rest of her life in pain, suffering, and regret for messing with his sister.
He also could not wait for Martin to be brought down just like Zayla.
"No. But I would like to see her loser face."
Robin chuckled and instructed, "Then you should meet me at the private facility."
"I'm on my way," Devin said and ended the call.
Robin was about to leave the office when his phone rang. It was Daniel.
"Dan, is it urgent?" he asked with a smile, Daniel replied,
"No. I just want to know how it went."
Robin's smile widened upon recalling everything. He couldn't wait for his second date with Sabrina and was certain that it was going to bring them closer.
"Wonderful but Zayla is awake. I want to see if she is ready for trial."
Hearing Zayla's name, Daniel was already headed to the elevator.
"I'm coming too."
The three men reached the private facility, almost at the same time and the doctor said to Zayla.
"Mr. Jewel has arrived." She walked away from the bedside, as three men walked in.
Zayla was a little relieved that she would be able to speak to Robin and beg him to let her go but to her disappointment, three men stood beside her bed all staring down at her with disgust, she lost all hope.
