Chapter 286 – Mara recounts the past
Martin was overwhelmed with pain and bitterness upon hearing Sabrina's words; he felt completely numb. 2
The anger inside Mara intensified as she realized how long Martin had waited for Sabrina, only to be treated so poorly.
She couldn't decide if she wanted Sabrina to express her love for Martin, but hearing her express hatred towards him made Mara believe that Martin's wait had been in vain.
"You see, you've put us in danger by bringing her here," Mara yelled, while Martin supported her with pillows and sneered,
"Shut up, Mara. I'll find a solution." It was clear that Martin, unwilling to direct his anger towards Sabrina, was directing it at Mara instead.
"It's better if we stay here. If we step outside, we'll be arrested," Mara insisted, while Sabrina stood there silently, observing their argument.
Suddenly, Martin remembered something Robin had mentioned and asked Mara,
"Robin knows a lot of things. He said that you killed our parents. Is it true?" Mara's face instantly paled, but she quickly composed herself, knowing that there was no evidence to support such a claim.
What nonsense are you talking about? You shouldn't let him manipulate your mind like he wants to."
"I'm relieved that it's not true. Forget about it. It's not even possible. Sabrina, please sit on that chair. I'll go get Anna and we can leave as soon as possible," Martin said, but Sabrina couldn't bear the thought of being in the same room as Mara.
"No, take me somewhere else. I won't stay here."
Martin paused, looking at her. All he saw in her eyes was disgust, so how could he do what he wanted?
"Sabrina, I'm sorry, but you don't have a choice in this matter. We'll leave together as soon as I get back."
Fear gripped Sabrina's heart as she remembered how Mara had locked her in that room to burn alive.
The thoughts were deeply disturbing to her, so she remained standing, refusing to sit. Martin reached the door when Mara interjected,
"You need to tie her up. What if she hurts me or tries to escape? The secret exit isn't locked from the inside."
Martin sighed with frustration as he turned to Mara and said,
"Sabrina cannot harm you, but she can run away." He then instructed Sabrina, "Please sit in the chair."
Sabrina stared at him, her heart boiling with rage. "No," she defiantly replied.
Martin became both upset and irritated.
"Please don't make me force you. Who knows, we might even lose that thing in your womb before we leave here," he mocked Sabrina.
Fearful for her child's safety, Sabrina reconsidered her situation. Martin unbuckled his waist belt, walked over to her, and tied her hands to the chair.
Only her legs remained free, but due to the weight of the chair, she knew it would be difficult to escape.
"Martin, I'm pregnant. Please don't do this," she pleaded, her voice filled with fear as she remembered the terrifying memories being in the same room with Mara brought back, and how she saw Mara smirk.
"Sabrina, I only care about you. Not your father, brother, sister, or this unborn child. If the discomfort could end its existence, that would be even better," Martin said heartlessly.
He despised the fact that Robin's offspring was inside her, leaving her to face the consequences.
Sabrina took deep breaths to calm herself, fully aware that although she wasn't malicious, she would find satisfaction in witnessing the brother and sister suffer for their actions.
As soon as the door closed, Mara burst into laughter, causing Sabrina to cringe.
"What's so amusing?"
"The various ways I'll relish in taking revenge on you for everything you've taken from me," Mara said bitterly, leaving Sabrina perplexed.
"You're the one who tried to kill me. I owe you nothing."
Mara maintained a smile as she rose from the bed and planted her feet on the ground. Sabrina's panic intensified.
How did you manage to do that?"
Mara stood up and walked over to Sabrina, her heart pounding in her chest as she stammered, "You... you can walk?"
"I'm bedridden because of you," Mara said, her face contorted in pain, putting a four-meter distance between them.
Sabrina tried to create more space between them, but then remembered her hands were tied to the chair, restricting her movement.
"I didn't put you in that state," Sabrina said, her voice filled with fear.
Mara calmed down slightly and walked back towards the bed, sensing Sabrina's fear.
"Let me tell you a story. My parents were enemies of Martin's parents."
"Don't you two have the same parents?" Sabrina asked, momentarily forgetting their enmity and shocked by the revelation.
"No," Mara said ruthlessly. "And the reason I'm going to tell you everything is because you'll be dead before Martin comes back."
Sabrina planned to keep her busy with questions until Robin arrived.
She didn't know how, but she had faith that Robin would find her somehow because he was smart.
"I don't believe that you're not siblings," Sabrina said, just to buy time with talk. As an expectant mother, her instinct and zeal to protect her child gave her survival ideas that surpassed her fears.
"Hmmm," Mara hummed, but she recounted the past. "Martin's parents and mine were enemies," she said. "That's what my parents told me when I met them for the first time. My parents were not rich like his, and they had asked for help from Martin's parents when my mother was pregnant, but they refused to help."
"My parents devised a plan upon discovering that Martin's mother, who was also in her ninth month of pregnancy like my mom, was expecting. In the midst of Martin's mother going into labor, my father made the decision to swap the babies."
Sabrina listened attentively, intending to use this information against Mara if Martin ever returned. Mara had mentioned that the exit remained open from the inside, giving Sabrina the thought to create a conflict between them and make her escape.
