[Bonus chapter]Chapter 287 – Mara, you can walk?
"The baby swap was a success, and Martin's parents raised me as their own. However, my parents still desired access to me."
"When they learned that Martin's parents were eager to have another child but were unable to conceive, they made the decision to put Martin up for adoption due to the curiosity surrounding his resemblance to them."
"My mother explained that Martin's parents were incredibly wealthy and well-known."
"Their fame extended far and wide, which led to Martin being swiftly adopted once he was put up for adoption, primarily due to his striking resemblance to his father."
"At the time, my father was working in the hospital lab when he received a request from Martin's parents for a DNA test. My father suspected it was due to the resemblance and made a deliberate mistake in the report."
"Mine showed that I was their biological child, but Martin's test showed no connection to them. That's how they decided to leave everything to me at a young age," Mara said, smiling triumphantly before continuing her confession.
"My parents wanted to reveal the truth, but when I realized the amount of money I would inherit and how much I had grown to love Martin, I became afraid that I would be separated from him."
"So, what did you do?" Sabrina asked, looking at Mara. Mara stared back at her, a smile playing on her lips.
"For my parents, it was simple. I secretly left the house without anyone noticing and set their home on fire. No one, except for you, knows that I killed my own parents because they wanted to disclose the secret of my birth and take me away, where I would live an ordinary life."
Sabrina's growing fears for Mara intensified, causing her to view the woman as a demonic figure from the depths of hell.
How could Mara be so heartless and merciless as to murder her own parents for the sake of material possessions?
"But that wasn't the end of it. Martin's parents had begun to suspect a striking resemblance between him and his father, prompting them to arrange for another DNA test after leaving their entire estate to me."
A sinister grin spread across Mara's lips as she recounted her actions.
"Since I had no one to manipulate the results, I took matters into my own hands. I stabbed them in the dead of night, ensuring no one would suspect me. I meticulously cleaned the knives and concealed them under my bed."
Sabrina's face drained of color upon hearing Mara's chilling confession. If she was capable of such heinous acts towards her own parents, what was she not capable of doing to Sabrina?
"You are utterly heartless," Sabrina managed to utter, her voice trembling with shock. Mara's smile only widened.
She had never aspired to be an angel in anyone's eyes, except for Martin's. Sabrina's opinion of her held no significance.
"I'm glad you finally see it. After loving Martin for so long, all he ever cares about is you," Mara seethed, her anger boiling over as she observed the disgust in Sabrina's eyes.
Sabrina, though afraid, mustered up enough courage to respond, thinking about her unborn children once again.
"That's because you've made him believe you're his sister. No sane man would think of a sister in that way."
"I'm also two months pregnant with his child," Mara sneered, and Sabrina couldn't help but feel happy for her. At least now they could get married and leave her out of it.
"That's great news. You should both get married," Sabrina suggested.
Mara smiled bitterly, contemplating what she could do to keep Sabrina out of Martin's life forever.
It felt satisfying to finally confess all the evil deeds she had committed. She knew her intimate moments with Pete were unnecessary, but she felt relieved to have unburdened her heart.
Sabrina wouldn't have the chance to tell anyone, as she would be dead before Martin arrived. The only thing he would do is yell at Mara and be upset.
Mara knew that eventually, he would be able to move on from it.
"Instead of asking how it happened, you should ask why it happened," she suggested.
Sabrina, not particularly interested but wanting to stall for time, asked,
"Are you willing to explain?"
Time seemed to stand still as Martin took an unusually long time. Sabrina wondered if Robin had caught up with him or if something else had happened.
"I drugged him and slept with him, which resulted in me getting pregnant," Mara said with a disturbing excitement in her eyes, causing Sabrina to cringe.
"Congratulations, I guess. But why did you try to kill me?" Sabrina asked, hoping for a more detailed explanation, while glancing longingly at both exits - the closet she had entered from and the one Martin had left through.
"Martin used to spy on you when he picked me up from school with the driver. I didn't want him to have eyes for anyone but me."
"The day I set the fire, I got into an accident, but after undergoing secret therapies, I can walk again," Mara explained, still maintaining her excitement.
It was fortunate that Martin brought Sabrina along because Mara ultimately emerged victorious.
"Why are you hiding this from him?" Sabrina inquired, fully aware that Martin would be overjoyed to learn that the woman he believed to be his paralyzed sister could actually walk.
Mara was annoyed by the question and retorted,
"Are you stupid? Can't you see that he would ignore me if he knew I was fine?"
Sabrina had no further inquiries but observed as Mara opened a drawer. Her heart sank when she saw Mara retrieve a gun and a knife.
"I am kind enough to let you choose how you want to die," Mara declared.
Sabrina struggled to free her hands from the belt that bound her. Since they were both pregnant, she didn't believe Mara would be too strong for her to handle.
"I don't want to die."
Mara shrugged, showing no signs of being affected by the cry, and stated,
"I will choose the knife for you because it will be more painful."
Suddenly, she seemed to remember something and hurriedly added,
"I have to do this before Martin returns."
"No, you don't have to do this. Please, don't," Sabrina pleaded, her voice raised in the hopes that someone would hear and come to her aid, as she continued to struggle to free herself.
Ignoring Sabrina's plea, Mara advanced towards her. As she lifted the knife, Sabrina forcefully stomped on her leg, causing her to stumble backwards.
The pain was excruciating, as Sabrina had used the heels of her three-inch stilettos.
Mara staggered backwards, her eyes filled with anger.
"You bitch. This is why I had you tied up. This room is soundproofed, and no one will hear you scream," Mara cursed, raising the knife once again.
Just as Mara prepared to strike, the door swung open and Ana walked in.
Sabrina let out a heavy breath, relieved to see Ana as her savior. However, there was no trace of pity in Ana's eyes, causing Sabrina to realize that her joy had been premature.
Mara felt a wave of relief wash over her as she prepared to continue what she had started.
However, her moment of respite was short-lived when Martin suddenly appeared behind Anna.
He quickly approached Mara, overpowering her and forcefully taking the knife from her grasp.
The shock on his face brought a sense of satisfaction to Sabrina, as she knew that he would finally discover the truth about Mara.
"Mara, you're able to walk?" Martin exclaimed in disbelief.
Mara's face turned pale, her body trembling with the realization that her plans had failed and that Martin would likely despise her for keeping this secret.
Sabrina had no intention of making things any easier for them. She decided to
add fuel to the fire, eager to find any means of escape as her sweaty hands began to slip out of the restraints.0
"And she's the one who killed your parents," Sabrina added, further stoking the flames of anger and betrayal.
