Chapter 293 – Aria’s shocking revelation
"Thank you," Robin smiled and said, as Sabrina joined Matilda and Lizzy in the waiting area.2
"Daniel, Devin, and Laura are being treated at the emergency ward," Matilda informed Sabrina, her voice filled with concern.
"I hope they didn't hurt you. I couldn't bear it when I heard the news. It's been a tough day for you."
Sabrina's cream inner wear still bore blood stains, though they were well concealed on her dark-colored skirt.
As Sabrina replayed the events in her mind, she couldn't help but smile at Robin's timely arrival.
If he had been just a minute late, Martin would have succeeded in taking her away and aborting her twins.
The thought sent a shiver down her spine, and her eyes filled with a dark desire for revenge.
She didn't want to witness Zayla's suffering, but she was determined to see Martin and Mara pay for their actions.
Also, they were the ones responsible for putting Robin in the dangerous situation he was in.
Sabrina was terrified at the thought of what could have happened if he hadn't been careful and the bullet had struck one of his vital organs.
She feared that he wouldn't have survived.
"They tried, but they didn't succeed. Mara intended to kill me, but Robin took the bullet meant for me," Sabrina said, her face contorted with pain. Matilda embraced her, offering comfort.
"Robin has always been protective of you. I would have been shocked if you had been hit while he was around. I'm relieved that he was there to shield you, as the consequences would have been far worse for you than for him," Matilda stroked Sabrina's hair and spoke softly.
However, Sabrina stiffened in her arms, sensing something in Matilda's words.
She asked, her voice trembling,
"How did you know that he's protective of me? Is there something I'm not aware of?"
Devin had mentioned something similar, and Sabrina had planned to inquire about the details later.
But now, Matilda was saying the same thing, leaving her wondering how many people were aware of this situation and chose to keep it to themselves.
Matilda pulled away, her smile tinged with sadness.
"Brina, I sought Robin's help when you helped me escape from my father's house. You were the reason he assisted me, but he had already been trying to locate Mara by then," Matilda revealed.
Seeing the shock on Sabrina's face, she continued,
"Brina, why do you think he ruined your date with Martin? Do you believe it was a coincidence? He knew that Mara was Martin's sister and he always tried to protect you from him."
Sabrina recollected that day and remembered how upset she was when Robin arrived with Zayla.
Assuming it was a mere coincidence, she never considered that it was all because of her.
Matilda wasn't finished speaking. She wanted Sabrina to know everything so she could once again open up to Robin.
Sometimes, second chances bring out the best in people, and Matilda was certain that Robin was one of those individuals who had been transformed by a second chance.
"I believe there is more that he has done that neither I nor Devin are aware of. The way you described his behavior after the divorce made it clear to me that he realized too late that he had lost someone special and was desperately trying to reenter your life."
Sabrina pondered deeply, acknowledging Matilda's insight, especially considering how possessive Robin had been towards her after the divorce, even after the court proceedings when he met Devin.
Then, at the hospital, she had only assumed that his interest was solely focused on the pregnancy.
Lost in her thoughts, Matilda continued to elaborate,
"I believe what made it even more complicated was his belief that Zayla was carrying his child, and he felt the need to be there for her as well."
"You see, Robin, being a responsible man, wanted Zayla to be well taken care of, even though he didn't love her, because he believed she was pregnant with his child."
Sabrina was relieved to hear a positive opinion of Robin, as she had only heard negative things about him before. She asked, with a serious tone,
"Why didn't you tell me this earlier?" Disappointment filled her voice as she realized that Matilda had known so much but had kept it hidden from her.
Sabrina didn't know how to feel about her best friend, but before Matilda could explain further, someone familiar caught Sabrina's attention.
"Aria, what are you doing here?"
Aria's face lit up with relief as she finally caught up to Sabrina. Without thinking, she embraced her tightly, unable to contain her joy.
"Thank goodness you're okay," Aria exclaimed. "I was so scared when I heard the news, especially considering how delicate we pregnant women can be."
Realizing her actions, Aria quickly pulled away, apologizing,
"I'm sorry. I was just so happy to see you."
Sabrina chuckled, amused by Aria's reaction. However, her expression turned serious as she asked,
"You are apologizing for hugging me? Anyway, why are you here?"
"One of the shadow bodyguards informed me that Mr. Jewel was injured, so I brought these documents for him to sign," Aria explained, debating whether or not to mention the woman who had come looking for Robin in the office.
After careful consideration, she decided against it, as the woman had left upon hearing the news of Sabrina's abduction, assuming Robin wouldn't be present.
"He was shot while saving me, so he's inside and you won't be allowed to see him. Besides, I don't think he's in any condition to read and sign a document," Sabrina apologized, hoping there was a solution since this involved business matters.
"Why don't you read and sign it then?" Aria suggested urgently. "It's extremely urgent, as there are only two hours until closing time, and I need to get back within thirty minutes."
Sabrina furrowed her brow, confusion clouding her mind as she considered Aria's request.
My signature wouldn't hold water because I'm not employed by your company," Sabrina stated, feeling that Aria was unaware of her job responsibilities.
However, she was taken aback by Aria's revelation.
"That's not accurate, Miss James. Mr. Jewel designated you as his next of kin and co-owner. He also left everything to you in his will. Additionally, you are a signatory on all the accounts," Aria explained.
Sabrina was stunned and shook her head. "You must be mistaken. I never signed anything."
"I'm not sure how, but throughout my years of working with Mr. Jewel, that has always been the case," Aria responded.
