[Bonus chapter]Chapter 296 – because it was the bullet of love
"Well, in order for your goods to not be returned, someone had to sign for them, right?"
Sabrina posed a rhetorical question, reminding Robin of the deliveries he had forgotten amidst the news of Sabrina's abduction.
"So, Aria informed you," Robin deduced, feeling uneasy as he had no explanation to offer.
"I don't think she had a choice," Sabrina replied, careful not to implicate Aria with her boss.
Understanding the urgency of those deliveries, Robin comprehended Aria's predicament but also felt curious to know more.
"What else did she tell you?" he inquired.
"Everything, because I insisted on knowing, but there's still something I don't understand," Sabrina admitted.
Robin forced a smile and asked, "What is it?"
"My signatures. How did they end up there?" Sabrina questioned.
Robin pursed his lips, unsure of how to convey the truth without making her feel foolish.
Determined not to lie, he spoke honestly,
"We were already married at that time, and you were always eager to please me, so you didn't even read the documents when I asked you to sign them. There was a total of twelve, and you simply signed them because I requested it."
Sabrina felt a deep sense of embarrassment upon discovering the circumstances surrounding the signatures, as it reminded her of her youthful infatuation with Robin.
"So, it was my fault," she admitted, but Robin, wanting to spare her feelings, responded with a smile.
"You were just naive back then, so you see, I never hid it from you."
Sabrina acknowledged that Robin hadn't kept a secret from her, but she was still puzzled about something.
"Why didn't you change it after the divorce?"
Robin's smile turned bitter.
"After the divorce, all I felt was emptiness, and I always knew those signatures shouldn't be altered. They had to remain there, so I left them."
Just then, there was a knock on the door, and Sabrina went to answer it.
"Finally, we can eat," she announced.
However, as she carried the food, she noticed the position of the large plaster on Robin's body.
She propped him up slightly and observed,
"The position of the bullet seems close to your heart."
She knew she wouldn't be able to see the exact position unless the plaster was removed, but from its placement, it appeared that way to her.
Robin did not refuse and replied, "because it was the bullet of love."
Sabrina smiled and started feeding him, causing Robin to feel a mix of embarrassment and excitement.
He was embarrassed because he felt like he should be the one taking care of her, but he also enjoyed the attention he was receiving from her.
Robin made sure that she fed herself as well. When they finished and she began packing the leftovers into the trash, he asked her,
"How about we check on how our babies are doing?"
Sabrina smiled and returned to her seat. "We can do that before we leave tomorrow."
Robin shook his head and said firmly, "I'm not staying the night here."
Sabrina chuckled, finding his refusal amusing. She asked him, "Where would you go?" Then she added, "We're spending the night here together. Lizzy will bring me clothes."
Upon hearing that she would be staying with him, Robin smiled widely and said, "You bring so much joy to my life. Thank you."
Sabrina felt a phone vibrate and turned to see that it was Robin's phone ringing. "Your phone is ringing."
"Who is it?" Robin asked, knowing that it was past working hours. Even if it was a work call, he wasn't sure if he would answer it in a moment like this.
"It's a private number," Sabrina replied, and Robin tensed slightly, suspecting who it might be.
"Please answer and put it on speaker mode," he instructed, and Sabrina complied.
"Hello."
Mr. Jewel, did you forget about our agreement?" Peter asked, his voice coming through the phone line.
Sabrina frowned a little face as Robin responded honestly,
"No, I didn't forget, but things didn't go as planned and I have no idea where she is right now."
"I trusted you," Peter's voice carried a hint of disappointment.
Robin, however, seemed to relax and explained,
"You should have informed me that your girlfriend was mad because she tried to harm my wife, and I ended up taking the bullet for her."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line before Pete inquired,
"So, where are you now? I guess you didn't finish studying her file to know that she a disorder."
Robin didn't care about Mara anymore and responded,
"I'm at the hospital. However, I can still gather information about her and keep you informed," Robin assured him.
Then, Peter revealed, "I will be traveling to South Africa in two days, so I want to see her before I leave."
Robin's words caused Sabrina to furrow her brow, and he responded,
"You should, because she might not be alive by the time you return."
There was a brief pause before Pete spoke again, saying,
"I'll wait for your call, Mr. Jewel." After ending the call, Sabrina couldn't help but wonder if the man wanted Mara freed.
Who is he?" Sabrina asked.
"He's Mara's hacker slash boyfriend. I'm not sure what to call it," Robin chuckled.
Sabrina frowned slightly and inquired,
"Does he want her to be released?" She wasn't sure if she would be happy about that and was relieved when Robin shook his head.
"No. Before he gave me information about Mara, he made me promise him something."
"Is that how you found out about his secret entrance?" Sabrina asked.
She had been worried when Martin mentioned it was a secret entrance, but she still had faith that Robin would come.2
"Yes. His name is Peter. He's the reason I went to Moscow to get this information. I came back hoping to have Mara and Martin arrested, but then I heard about your abduction."
Sabrina smiled, her heartwarming as she understood that Robin had planned to surprise her. She asked,
"How long have you been looking out for me?"
"I can't remember. I just feared that someone might harm you," Robin paused, remembering his other surprises for her. He then asked, "So, when are we leaving for France?"
This time, Sabrina felt eager, but she still had concerns about Robin's health.
"Why don't you focus on recovering first?"
Robin nodded in agreement before saying, "You made me a promise, so I want to make a request."
"Anything," Sabrina assured with a smile and Robin said,
"I want to go on both trips with you. France and Rome."
Sabrina was surprised since she expected a bigger demand like him using the opportunity to ask for marriage and asked,
"Is that all?"
Robin pursed his lips, glad she didn't refuse and said,
"The rest would come when we reach those two destinations."
Sabrina was excited but it was merely washed away when they heard a knock on the door again and before she could get it, a woman entered. Rushing to Robin's bed, she covered his form with hers,
"Oh Robin, I was so worried about you."
