Chapter 304 - It’s too late, Mara, I don’t love you anymore
Peter maintained a slight smile and responded, 0
"Mara, I understand you better than you understand yourself. Do you think you can deceive me? I have sacrificed my entire life, waiting for your love while you bestowed it upon someone who loved another."
Peter was deeply distressed at this point. However, he understood that she was already doomed, and he couldn't let his anger consume him.
Mara attempted to regain his sympathy, particularly after realizing her mistake. She should have fought for her own freedom before considering Martin's. Mara knew that Peter didn't love her anymore because of how she had given the heart he desired to Martin.
"Please, Pete, I will do anything," Mara cried, feeling dehydrated and aware that she would not be permitted to face trial.
She knew that if Pete did not help her escape, she would be killed, unlike Zayla, who was destined to face trial, as she overheard the general informing one of his men.
Pete found Mara's cluelessness about his actions interesting. However, he wanted to inflict more pain on her, so he decided to reveal it to her.
"Do you not comprehend? How do you think Robin gained access to the secure hideout I created for you?" Mara froze, realizing that Peter had betrayed her.
"It was you?"
Mara's eyes, once dried up from dehydration, now welled up with tears as she finally grasped the root of her troubles.
The realization hit her hard, for she had never fathomed that Peter, who had always been her pillar of support, could stoop to such actions.
Peter's eyes showed no remorse as he declared,
"I was your protector, but once I accepted that you would never give me what I desired, I knew I had to do what was necessary. To become your destroyer."
"Pete, I trusted you," Mara expressed her disappointment, but Pete felt no shame for his betrayal. He believed she deserved it for her foolishness.
"Just as I trusted you to love me. I must leave now. I am departing tomorrow, and I doubt I will return to NYC anytime soon. Goodbye, Mara."
Mara's fear of being killed intensified as Peter prepared to leave. Despite feeling betrayed, she desperately clung to hope, her voice hoarse and weak from screaming during the torture she endured.
The men who inflicted pain upon her found amusement in her suffering.
"Pete, please, I love you. I truly do," Mara pleaded as Peter walked away.
Unsure if he had heard her, she tried to raise the tempo of her voice before he paused near the door.
Peter had longed to hear those words from her, but now they fell upon him like dust, failing to evoke the desired impact.
He realized that the love he once felt for her had died.
Filled with hope once more when he stopped, Mara's heart sank as she soon cursed herself internally for daring to hope.
"It's too late, Mara. I don't love you anymore," Peter declared.
Mara had believed that such words would only hurt if they came from Martin, but surprisingly, they pierced through her heart and soul.
Everything was now lost. If she had only pretended to love Peter, her life would have been better than the one she led, constantly trying to destroy Sabrina in a futile attempt to win Martin's love.
Martin had never loved her beyond the title of a sister, and Sabrina remained alive while Peter grew tired of her.
She had lost everything, and she could only blame herself as she heard the sound of Peter's retreating steps.
With Pete gone, there was no hope left for her. The lights were switched off once again, enveloping her in the darkness of her abyss.

You should eat while it's hot," Sabrina said, holding a large tray with a bowl of steaming chicken soup.
She carefully placed it on the table before helping Robin into a sitting position.
She lifted the tray and placed it in front of him, repeating,
"You should eat it while it's still hot."
As she began to feed him the soup, Robin smiled, grateful for the first home-cooked meal Sabrina had made for him in months.
The taste was as delicious as always, but after just a few spoonfuls, he pursed his lips and spoke up.
"You're not eating," he observed, concerned.
Despite his injuries, Robin couldn't help but feel that Sabrina's situation was more critical than his own, considering she was carrying their twins.
"That's because I'm not injured. I would have a salad," Sabrina replied, smiling as she attempted to feed him another spoonful.
However, he refused to take it, his conscience not allowing him to eat when he knew she hadn't.
"Then bring it here. I want to see you eating," Robin said seriously, surprising Sabrina with his level of care and concern.
In the past, he would have simply eaten his own meal without giving a second thought to whether or not she had eaten.
Sabrina scolded herself for entertaining those thoughts once again, as she had already let go of any bitterness in the past.
I promise, I will eat," she said sincerely.
However, Robin shook his head and insisted, "I have to see it."
He was certain that if he didn't witness it, Sabrina wouldn't eat.
"Okay," Sabrina reluctantly agreed, giving up. She called Margaret to bring her food. Only after she had eaten half of it did Robin finally start eating.
Once they finished, Sabrina allowed a maid to take the plates and cups to the kitchen.
Just then, she received an alert on her phone. A smile formed on her lips as she showed the screen to Robin.
"It seems someone decided to pay me to maintain a business relationship with you," Sabrina said, her voice filled with amusement and her eyes shining.
"Congratulations!" Robin exclaimed heartily. Sabrina smiled and replied,
"Thanks, but I will donate it to charity."
She didn't need the money, and even if she did, she couldn't accept it since it came from Shandra.
Robin was about to say something when his phone started ringing. Seeing the caller, he handed the phone to Sabrina.
Amusement laced her tone as she answered the call, putting it on speaker mode.
"Shandra, I received the payment, but there seems to be a problem," Sabrina began, but Shandra was already growing angry and impatient on the other end of the line.
