Chapter 217- Dear one, I have a surprise for you on your birthday
Sabrina stopped what she was doing and stared at him with her lips curled into a smile, wondering what he was thinking to have that worried look on his face.0
"Because the day after tomorrow is my birthday, Lizzy and Matilda want me to get my hair done, the dress fitted and all."
"Lizzy won't go to work either and Matilda is free in the afternoon so we'll be fine together."
Robin relaxed after hearing her explanation, even smiling a little but he thought to inform her in advance about Zayla's presence at her birthday to not shock her when the time arrived.
"I get it, and I understand but Sabrina, Zayla will be at your party. I hope you don't mind?"
Knowing that if he asked her directly if she could allow Zayla at the party would get an instant 'no' he termed it that way.
Indeed, Sabrina's mood was destroyed and she was upset.
The helplessness she felt at the fact that he was telling her at a time like this when she could not tell him to call off the party was appalling since invitations were already sent out and very prominent people invited.
Her countenance turned cold,
"You paid for everything so I don't get to have a say. She's carrying your child anyway."
Robin was prepared for this but did not know how to bring that smile back to her face without ruining what he planned.
He also knew that should Sabrina have the least idea about what he had in mind to do to Zayla, she would stop him because she was too kind.
"Dear one, I have a surprise for you on your birthday and I promise that I have nothing to do with Zayla."
Sabrina stared at him with mockery in her eyes this time, remembering the reason why she asked for a divorce in the first place.
It was all because of Zayla. She was the only one Robin brought to their matrimonial home because she was pregnant for him which meant that she still held a very special place in his heart if not his life.
Even the day Sabrina wanted to tell Robin how she felt about him before his surgery, Zayla was already there, making out with Robin so what was she supposed to think?
The only person to blame was herself for agreeing to marry him, even if it was to save her family's business.
"So, am I supposed to trust you?" Her tone was coated with mockery when she asked, Robin lacked the right words to comfort her at this time.
"I just thought you should know because it's your party and she has a lot to tell you."
Sabrina scoffed. What could Zayla possibly have to tell her after betraying her like that? If she had not been too open to Zayla when they were friends, all this would not have happened.
"I would rather prefer that she doesn't come."
Robin breathed in and out. This was very difficult for him since he did not want it to also seem as if he was imposing it.
"I'm not imposing it but she must be there because there is something I have to tell you."
Sabrina was annoyed for whatever he wanted to tell her at her birthday party which he could not tell her right there in his office.
They've always been through worse, including him asking to have sex with her, pretending it was because of the pregnancy so what else could it be?
"Tell me right here and now. I don't want to wait until the party."
Robin ran his fingers through his hair frustratedly, deciding it was better to not inform her about not being the one to bring her to the party because it would only make matters worse.
She had better be taken by surprise at that part.
"I know that you don't trust me but for this once? Can you do that? I promise that if this surprise I have for you doesn't make Zayla's presence worth it, I will give you all the freedom and not pester your life again."
He expected Sabrina to be relieved or happy since she never liked his presence but none of that showed on her face as she rather looked disappointed.
Sabrina did not know the reason why Robin's words did not make her happy but rather sad but it was slowly settling in that she had gotten used to his presence every morning and evening in her life.
She had begun to enjoy his friendship slowly, which was unexpected but as for Zayla, Sabrina did not want her there.
"Is it because she's carrying your child too?" She asked seriously, Robin smiled.
"Dear one, you have twins with me. I am just asking you this one time. If you allow her to attend your birthday party, I promise that I will never have anything to do with her again."
Sabrina was puzzled by the statement. If he cut ties with Zayla, then what would happen to their co-parenting?
Unless there was something he was not telling her. It piqued her interest and she wanted to know.
"If you have nothing to do with her after the party, then what would happen to her pregnancy?"
"You will have all the answers there. Please give me a chance and I will not let you down. You should also understand that your happiness is my top priority at this moment."
Sabrina went into deep thought. She did not know what to expect but was curious to know how Zayla's presence was going to make her happy.
"Okay, bring her."
Robin smiled broadly, wishing that he could hug her but knew better than to not do anything to make her upset.
The hug from this morning was the best thing that happened to him in a long time, if not the whole of his life and he wanted more but also knew that he had to be patient with her.
"Thank you."
Sabrina did not say anymore and it took another thirty minutes before she was able to round up whatever she was doing.
Arriving at her dinner, they were surprised that the family waited, even when they had not called to confirm how late they would be.
Devin and Matilda were there as well and Robin understood why they waited after they began eating when he said to his father,
"Dad, the cops went to Martin's office to arrest him but he was not there."
