Chapter 222 – Scissors?
Aria smiled bitterly and responded, 1
"The plan was to wait for just a year but God's ways are not our ways. We kept trying but nothing."
Her mood was sorrowful at the recollection and Robin wondered how she was able to put it all together and pretend as if her life was perfect but there was another throbbing question on his mind.
"And your husband?" He asked and Aria smiled.
"He was more patient with me, believing that at the right time, we would have children. He even said it was okay if we never had children and there were a lot of children without parents who also needed love."
"His point was, that if we could not have our own children, then we could adopt after two or three years of trying. But when the time came and we wanted to adopt, he lost his job."
Aria smiled at everything that happened. Nothing worked the way they planned it but in the end, everything was still perfect.
"We decided to hold on until he got a job but it's been three years now, and he still hasn't gotten any job yet, I'm pregnant. I felt that it was a time for us to learn how to be patient or maybe, a test of our love."
"Everything that happened only strengthened our love for each other so it was worth it."
As Robin listened to Aria's quantity and quality words, something irked in his heart and he felt that he should not have waited to confirm Sabrina's pregnancy before going after her and began to question what he felt for his ex-wife.
Children were all that mattered to him before but he just realized that the true meaning of love wasn't always about getting what you want but rather, making your partner happy.
He hoped that one day, he would be able to prove his unconditional love for Sabrina.
His attention shifted back to the subject matter since he already got what he wanted and asked,
"Can you work from home during your maternity leave? I mean, I will send the emails in the evenings and you can work on them at your convenience."
He wanted to recommend that she get a nanny but remembering what she said about her husband not working, he said,
"If I have to pay for a nanny for you for the hours you have to work from home, I wouldn't mind."
Aria was confused by the sudden request and revealed,
"HR said she would prepare a relieve secretary for you."
After what happened with Rita, Robin did not want it to happen again so it was better to work on important matters with the person he was most comfortable with.
"I will speak to HR to get me a receptionist. I like your work and I don't want a break in the flow. You also know that I don't have time to be teaching a relieve staff member how I want my emails and letters written with the timelines and all."
Aria felt her fears of being moved to another department dissipate and was glad to have taken Sabrina's advice.
Maybe, she and her ex-husband were like-minded after all.
"Okay sir, I will be honored," she agreed, Robin was equally relieved, saying,
"Thank you and I will make sure that your salary is adjusted to suit the changes."
Aria smiled with gratitude. She was not broke but since a child was on the way, she knew her expenditures would go up and did not want to pressure her husband into finding a job since he was already depressed from trying so much to no avail.
"Thank you, sir, thank you very much."
"You are welcome, Aria, so please get the things I want sorted out, and congratulations once again. If you are working and need a break because of your condition, just let me know," Robin added.
It's not good to overwork a pregnant woman but also, every woman is different, and handles pressure differently.
"Thank you," Aria said once again and when she stood up to go, Robin's brows knitted a little and he asked,
"Wait, did you say five months? You don't even have a bump."
Aria chuckled and loosened her blazer before her bump was revealed.
"I do, sir. I just don't want your guests to see that you have a pregnant secretary," she said politely, Robin felt terrible, wondering if he was a monster or ever made her feel that way.
He was also disturbed, feeling that the baby in her womb was being suffocated.
"Why not? Is there a law prohibiting pregnant women in the workplace? Aria, just wear whatever you are comfortable with but please don't go naked."
Aria laughed at the last part, glad to have had this conversation with her boss.
"Thank you, sir, I won't. I will attend to those emails now."
"Good and please try to make it to the party tomorrow with your husband. I will need your help with something so come with scissors," Robin said and Aria froze.
"Scissors?" She asked, shock glazing her face. She was already expecting an invitation to the party but only wondered why the need for scissors at a party.
Robin calmly said, "Yes, scissors."
Seeing that she was still confused, he did not intend to explain and rather added, "And I'm waiting for those reports."
When he spoke like that, there was nothing more Aria could ask or say so she went to attend to the emails.
Later in the day, Robin received a call from Devin.
"Robin, the police went with an arrest warrant to Martin's mansion to arrest him but there is no sign of him. The security said that he left the house when the video went viral and has still not returned."
Robin was most certain that Martin had nowhere to hide and if Mara was in the mansion and yet could not be located, then Martin was still there as well.
"Don't worry. I will take care of it," he said solemnly before adding, "Let the media be aware that Martin is on the run."
Devin laughed at the end of the line; already discerning what Robin planned to achieve.
"Robin, do you know what that would do?"
Robin smiled and responded, "It's the reason why I'm doing it."
