Chapter 232 – Robin, I’m sorry but I am not the one who saved your life
Zayla's palms were very sweaty and she wondered the reason why Robin had not given her a heads-up before mentioning it.1
Sabrina wanted it to be a secret and Zayla took advantage of it.
Now that Robin mentioned it directly, Sabrina was also here with all these people and the media as well.
If things went out of hand, Zayla was certain that her life would be in jeopardy, especially when she did not have the money to escape yet.
"Robin please, I want to use the ladies' room," she said as a matter of urgency and rose to her feet.
Robin's gaze darkened dangerously but the next moment, his lips stretched.
"Okay, Zayla, just answer her question before you do," Robin responded, putting on that same innocent look.
If she thought she was going to escape, then over his dead body.
Everyone watched, as all the color in Zayla's face drained and she was as white as snow.
Everyone including Sabrina was staring at Zayla with expectation.
Sabrina remembered that Robin had said before that Zayla saved his life but never imagined that it was in the angle of the kidney transplant.
She always thought it was something else since Robin never gave the details back then like he did now and was beginning to wonder if it had to do with the donation but since that was her, she was indeed expecting something else.
Zayla forced a smile but it did not reach her eyes and her stomach churned instantly, like she wanted to throw up from her fears.
"It doesn't matter that I saved you, Robin, it's because I love you and I don't want anyone to know," Zayla said smoothly into the microphone Robin held to her mouth, the guest's cooed, feeling like she was the kindest and most romantic person that ever lived.
Robin chuckled and glanced at Sabrina before extending his hand to Daniel, who gave him bundles of hundred-dollar bills, which he dropped in front of Zayla,
"You asked for this as a payment for saving my life after telling me that the diamonds my father left you for saving my life were fake," Robin revealed and Sabrina's eyes widened but she was confused at the diamond part.
Before she could ask any question, she heard someone from among the guests saying,
"It seems that Miss Chance isn't so kind. She did not save Mr. Jewel's life for love."
"Yes, it seems it was all because of the money. She should have just collected money from him rather than destroying his marriage."
The money was in front of Zayla and the only thing that came to mind was to take it, run away, and never come close to Robin again or leave the States for good.
"Robin, you misunderstand. I only asked for money because my mother is sick," she lied, forgetting she had told Robin that her mother was fine.
"Zayla, didn't you say that she's already fine but was upset that you hadn't come to visit? Perhaps I should keep the money then," he attempted to take the money when Kennedy said,
"Who said her mother is fine? She just did not want to bother you but when I spoke to her mother yesterday, she was admitted to the hospital. You see, my daughter and I have to go and see her urgently."
Looking at the faces of the people present when he spoke, he felt like he succeeded in winning their sympathy and made an attempt to pick the money when Daniel pushed it towards Robin and spoke,
"Everybody wants to know exactly how your daughter saved Robin's life."
Kennedy was surprised by the change in Daniel since he seemed very nice before.
However, he had to save his and his daughter's life by getting out of this party and yelled,
"Is it not obvious that Robin is alive because my daughter donated her kidney to save him?"
"What?" Sabrina expressed her shock when the realization of the matter hit home that all along, Zayla had put into Robin's mind that she was his secret donor.
This was something she had kept to herself and her family for so long and never wanted him to know but now, if she could use it to get Zayla out of Robin's life for good, then that would be splendid.
However, remembering that Zayla was also pregnant with Robin, she felt it was unnecessary since Zayla would still be in Robin's life because of the pregnancy.
What she did not expect was when a man slapped Kennedy from the back, his face hit the glass of champagne in front of him and it broke, as the man snarled,
"Lying is not permitted here."
The man was one of the general's bodyguards in the army.
Zayla was horrified and was about to reach out for her father when the man said coldly to her,
"Miss, I am trained to hit women too."
Zayla trembled from fear, her legs felt like rubber and she sat back in her chair.
"Zayla, don't waste the time of these precious guests. Sabrina is still waiting for an answer to her question," Robin reminded her.
Zayla remembered the number of people who had slapped her.
Devin, Sabrina, and even Robin but she was sure that a slap from this man behind them would send her into an early grave as the man's presence caused even the guests to shiver.
Looking at her father's reddened and swelling face, she was already hyperventilating.
Then again, she remembered that Robin still believed that she was pregnant so even if she confessed, he would not be able to hurt her because of the pregnancy and she could find a way to escape before the expected time of delivery.
The only problem would be her incurring the wrath of Robin and also, she would lose the money but could find a way to get it back, even if it meant stealing it or using her pregnancy as an excuse.
Yes, she could threaten to take her life later and force him to send the money to her father.
After that, they could plan their escape. At these thoughts, Zayla confessed,
"Robin, I'm sorry but I am not the one who saved your life."
