Chapter 237 – I need iced water
Robin ensured that no one had the faintest idea that it was all a trick for which reason he had to hide that part, even from Cobby.1
"It's great that the diamonds were fake if not…"
"Robin, she should still return the fake diamonds. What if it's real and she's lying?" Daniel interrupted Robin and asked, Zayla was already feeling dizzy, afraid that perhaps her father was rather deceived and the diamonds had been taken away for only 20k.
Robin nodded his head in agreement.
"You are right."
Then he glared at Zayla, she squirmed from fright since he no longer tried to pretend to like her in any way.
"Where are the fake diamonds? They should belong to Sabrina."
Zayla looked at her father helplessly, wishing that he would wake up and answer the questions for himself but there seemed to be no sign of that happening anytime soon.
Also, hearing how affectionately Robin mentioned Sabrina's name caused an aching in her but whilst she went on to explain,
"My father sold them for 20k."
Robin pretended to be shocked.
"So even as fake diamonds, he still sold them for 20k? Now where is that money? It should still go to Sabrina, right?"
Daniel remembered that he bought the fake diamonds for 30k because they were rare so if Zayla claims that her father sold them for 20k, then she was telling the truth for the first time in her miserable life.
"My…my father already used the money," Zayla stammered.
The only reason why Robin could hold it in was because he had known the truth for so long.
Only he knew how it burned him every time he thought about it and how he wanted the world to know about it as well.
He was also sure that by exposing Zayla like this, a lot of men would learn from his mistakes and be smarter.
"Miss Chance does not deserve to live," somebody said from the audience.
"It's true. She's so selfish, greedy, and evil," another person said, Zayla feared that Robin might do as they have said since he made them the judges and begged,
"Robin please, I've loved you from the first time I saw you. Everything I did was because I loved you."
In her heart, she felt that she loved him but it was obvious that her actions never showed that she loved him.
It might have been because of his good looks or money, or even infatuation, or better still, lust.
Which woman who loved a man would destroy him the way Zayla did?
"You love me or you want money?" Robin asked, creating confusion in Zayla's mind.
She could not deny that she indeed wanted the money and was beginning to understand that if she joined the money bit together, then everyone would say that she did not love him.
However, if she also said that she didn't want the money, then they would call her a liar because of her previous actions so she remained mute in the end.
Her inability to answer the question gave Robin the understanding that everything about Zayla was all about the money and he went on to say,
"It's easy for people to mistake money for love."
Then he pointed at the bundle of cash on the table, adding,
"See, Zayla, the money is there but it's still unreachable to you."
Zayla could not see the money because of where she sat on the floor but she knew that right now, if Robin gave her that money and let her go, she would be able to start her life afresh and perhaps, make herself better than Sabrina.
She was also certain that Robin would fall in love with her if he saw her again.
"Please forgive me. I will leave and never bother you again."
Robin laughed internally at her request.
"Leave?"
What gave her that impression?
"After you ruined my marriage?"
Robin shook his head, blinking back the tears of all the pain he caused Sabrina, believing that she should not have been his wife when Zayla had saved his life.
"I wasn't a good husband but Sabrina never planned to leave me until you insisted on aborting the child if I refused to let you live in the villa."
He let out a bitter smile.
"Why was it so, Zayla?" He asked, hoping that she would confess more of her crimes to give her a longer jail term but no matter what, Robin was sure that as soon as the news about her imprisonment died down, he would send an assassin to eliminate her even in prison.
Then again, he relaxed and tried to trick her into confessing some more since most of the crimes were in the past and there were no physical proofs of them like the death of Robin's mother and how he ended up in bed with Zayla that night without remembering anything.
"Perhaps if you give me some answers, I might consider not pressing charges," Robin said and the guests expressed their dissatisfaction, feeling that no matter the situation, Zayla had to go to prison for her crimes.
Sabrina was also displeased with that promise but remembered he used the word, 'may,' and held back from speaking.
She would only express her dissatisfaction if Robin indeed let Zayla go.
Robin, on the other hand, continued with whatever he was trying to arrive at, pretending as if he was not hearing the disapproval of the guests, whom he claimed to be the judges of this matter.
"It was because of the diamonds. My father knew they were there so he brought me back for us to arrange everything," Zayla quickly answered, holding on to Robin's promise to not press charges, so that he wouldn't change his mind.
Robin shook his head and said,
"That is not the question I wanted to ask you but since you mentioned it, I think we need your father to speak for himself, so you don't lie against him to get yourself out of this mess."
Then he turned to one of the waiters and said, "I need ice-cold water."
