Chapter 120 – Breakfast from Mr. Jewel.
"So, Matilda, how long have you been in love with my brother?" The question weighed so long on Sabrina's mind; she finally found the courage to ask.1
Matilda could not discern what was going on in Sabrina's mind and felt guilty for never telling her before when Sabrina had been open about her relationship with Robin to her.
"It was during college but I did not want to nurse it because I was afraid that he didn't feel the same," Matilda said truthfully. They had finished eating and the maids were clearing the table.
Sabrina was greatly disappointed, feeling that if Matilda had told her, she would have found ways of hinting it to Devin and Matilda would not have gone through the things she went through in the hands of the likes of Stanley.
"You should have told me. If you had done that, the two of you would have been together and you would have saved him from the likes of Lindsay," Sabrina turned it the other way, to Devin's advantage.
"Who is Lindsay?" Cobby asked. He never recalled Devin being in a relationship with any girl.
"My ex-girlfriend," Devin answered truthfully. Cobby was surprised but did not dwell on it. He was just enjoying his time with his children, hoping to see his grandchildren very soon.
"I thought you would be upset," Matilda said to Sabrina, still feeling guilty, even though Sabrina did not look offended.
However, she spoke truthfully. "I'm so disappointed in you. We are best friends and yet you don't know me as much as you think."
"I'm sorry," Matilda bit her lower lip and apologized. Sabrina shook her head, stood up, and went to hug Matilda from the back.
"No. I'm happy to have you permanently in my family so are you going to tell all this to your dad?" She asked after pulling away, while she took in Matilda's facial expression.
"Yes, I figured we should all meet him before the party begins," Matilda stated her plans. They were already aware that Cobby was not going to attend. He was not a fan of parties, more like evening events. For weddings, yes, but that was all there was to it.
"Then I will make the arrangement," Devin said. He also wanted to meet Matilda's father in a quiet atmosphere but did not intend to let Matilda know about it.
"That sounds like a good plan," Sabrina agreed and they all laughed before heading to their various rooms. This time, Matilda shared Devin's room at the mansion since their relationship was now open to all.
At Robin's penthouse
Robin felt empty and sad when he arrived at this penthouse. Cobby's actions made him so guilty and he could not overcome it. He was so rude to that man before, thinking he befriended his father because of the business partnership.
Even when Cobby knew in detail that Robin treated Sabrina badly, he still treated him like a son. Robin instantly coveted the bond of the James family.
Having lost both parents and not having siblings, he felt lonely and wished to have more children in the future to make up for it.
As he opened the door and entered the house, he was eager to see Zayla, just to feel her bump. Perhaps that would take away the emptiness he was feeling.
"Zayla!" Robin called from downstairs but there was no response. He climbed upstairs and opened the door to her room.
There she was, sleeping like a baby. Robin grimaced. He already informed her of his coming but she went to bed without seeing him. If it was Sabrina, she would have waited for him. Then again, it might be because Zayla was pregnant but Robin quickly diffused that thought.
Zayla has been at home all day so she should have had enough rest by now. With a blend of disappointment and emptiness, he closed the door and went to his room, at the same time Zayla opened her eyes, her heart thumping wildly.
She was afraid that he'd come and touch her stomach even when she was sleeping. Nevertheless, she was still not relieved because she felt she only escaped tonight and did not know how long she would be able to keep it up.
This also meant that she would have to be avoiding Robin, which she did not want to do. Zayla felt her breathing heavy, as she thought of a way out of the situation.
The next day while Robin got ready for work, Zayla was still sleeping. He swallowed bitterly and went to Sabrina's office.
Reaching there, a delivery girl brought flowers. Sabrina had not arrived and instantly, Robin knew the flowers were from Martin. He took the flowers from the girl and threw them in a bin, at the same time Sabrina arrived.
Seeing her flowers in the bin, her heart sank and her voice was shaky, almost shedding tears. She had grown accustomed to the flowers, expecting them every morning.
"Robin, are those my flowers?"
Robin was standing elegantly in front of her door in his black suit and white shirt. He wore a purple tie to compliment the whole thing. It was not his fault that heads kept turning in his direction. He was a deliciously handsome billionaire with a bad reputation concerning women.
However, he was working on changing that perception too. At least, he hasn't fucked any woman continuously for one week so that was progress for someone who used to do it every day.
"They were to be delivered to you so yes."
"What are they doing in the bin?" Sabrina asked, going to withdraw the flowers since they still looked good and the bin was empty. Robin blocked her path to the dustbin and said,
"If you want flowers, I will bring you some, morning and evening, together with your food. How are you today?" He quickly changed the topic while opening the door for her to enter her office.
"I'm very well." Sabrina walked into her office and sat on her executive chair.
"You look well so I will see you in the evening," he said and left, as she got busy on her laptop. A few minutes later, there was a knock on her door and someone brought her a healthy breakfast.
"Miss James, this is from Mr. Jewel. Bon appetit."
