Chapter 248 – I hope you don’t die this time, Martin

Martin got home, feeling depressed but remembered that he had to thank Mara for his life, thereby going to her room despite knowing that they were not on the same terms at the moment. 1

Indeed, she looked upset with her gaze pinned on the television as if she had not seen him. 

Martin could not blame her, feeling it was because she did not understand the things of love, for which reason she was like that.

Then again, he wondered if his shielding her from all her evil deeds did them any good. 

This whole thing was just because of Mara, even drugging Sabrina to sign the documents. 

If the video did not exist, he could have gotten away with it but then, things got worse and his chances with Sabrina were ruined.

However, as for today, he only escaped narrowly from Devin, thanks to Mara for sending the man to help him.

When he entered Mara's room, she did not look at him but knew by the sound of the door that it was him.

She spoke to Martin without a glance, as her eyes were glued on the LED screen in her room.

"You were parked and seated at the car park since morning. Are you saying that you were not watching the live broadcast on the entertainment channel?"

Martin knew she was talking about the events of the party but was not interested in anything since she would not be in support.

Things were better when they supported each other but whenever the other person was against something, things flew in unwelcoming directions.

"Mara, I only came to thank you. I'm going to my room now." 

Martin was already at the door, as if he was afraid of his sister when Mara spoke emotionlessly,

"Martin, did you not see what Robin did to Zayla and her father?"

Martin was upset that Zayla and her father were foolish enough to depend on Robin for money to leave the country. 

He and Mara's company might be down but they still had enough money invested and could easily bounce back as soon as the news died down. 

Martin was nothing like Kennedy and Zayla and did not want to be compared with them.

"I saw it and he might even do worse to them but I don't care. I'm not giving up on Sabrina and I'm not leaving without her," he yelled.

There was nothing more to lose since they both already lost the company Mara promised to sign over to him. 

Her clause to the condition failed both of them and Martin felt like he now had his freedom. 

If he had known that the company would go down, he would not have even desired it in the first place.

Perhaps, he should have started something different but that did not cross his mind at that moment.

"Maybe you have not seen the latest one," Mara said and showed him the video on the phone since the one being broadcast had moved on to something else.

Martin had indeed not seen that and he could feel his heart being torn into pieces. 

Without him being in the office and remaining at home, all he could think about was Sabrina and there was no distraction since he lost his best friend and kept all other pals at a distance because of Mara.

Seeing Robin dancing so intimately with Sabrina, then making promises to her and kissing her on the forehead, all of which she did not resist, Martin felt his legs weak and he sank to the floor.

Mara turned her face from the LED screen and focused on him, happy to get the reaction she was getting.

"Please forget her Martin, let go. I would not be surprised that he even has your spies as we speak," Mara hinted but only unknowingly, aggravated Martin's annoyance and he yelled,

"Just shut up, Mara."

Mara knew that she got him and did not intend to stop until her message registered deep inside his heart, even if all he thought about her was a sibling. 

"I love you, Martin. All we have is each other. Please don't do this to us. You know that I can't live without you. You are my legs, my hands, eyes, ears, and everything. Should anything happen to you, it would be the end of my life."

Martin was slightly guilty, feeling that if he had gotten caught by Devin and sent to prison, then who would be there to take care of Mara and manage all the money they had in secret investment accounts?

Then again, all his life has been for Mara and it was time for him to fight for what he wanted.

"I'm sorry Mara but I can't leave without her. I know that you need me so I will be careful but please have the patience for me to get her over."

Mara tasted a salty liquid in her mouth, which she realized was from the tears streaming down her cheeks with some making their way into her mouth.

"How are you going to do that, Martin? You were almost caught by Devin," Mara cried. 

She could not bear to lose the only man she loved because of Sabrina, who had her family, and even Robin.

"I will find another way," Martin said with resolve, not willing to give up.

Mara shook her head, as bitterness gathered in her heart.

"I hope you don't die this time, Martin. Robin is trying every means to get her back and he is looking for us too. The spies are still around and you are going in and out of the mansion," she pointed out.

"That is because it was all your fault. If you had not done what you did to Sabrina when you were both young, I would have befriended her without hiding my identity."

"I had to withdraw because Robin knew about you and wanted to expose me. It's all your fault," Martin yelled his frustration at her, Mara cried some more…
