Chapter 163 – Zayla’s shame
When Zayla ran out of the office, she did not expect to bump into her best friend at the car park, right before entering the car Robin assigned to her. 1
With her burning face, she did not want her best friend to see her like that, thereby pretending to not have seen her best friend Zeresh but the latter had already seen her and even advanced quickly towards her.
"Zayla, what happened to your face?" Zeresh asked with care since this was Robin's fiancé. She feared for whoever did this to Zayla but when Zayla began to lie, Zeresh began to get suspicious.
"Zeresh, it was an accident. I have to go now."
Zayla was about to sit in the car when Zeresh held her arm and studied her face very well. "It doesn't look so. Those are fingerprints. You should sue whoever did this to you."
The suggestion would have been a great one if Zayla had not been the one who went looking for trouble. She said honestly,
"I was the one who found the trouble so I can't."
"You look terrible," Zeresh observed and said, Zayla was embarrassed.
"Yeah, I'll cover it with makeup so what brings you here?" Zayla asked, wondering if her friend was working here or was looking for a job. She would rather Robin give her a job instead of working for Sabrina.
"Oh, my boyfriend found a gemstone but I don't know what it is. I brought it here for them to help me with what it was and how much it might cost when sold."
The sound of gemstones was exciting to Zayla. It would not be hard for her to swap it since she needed a lot of money right now for her father.
"Your boyfriend? How many have you got?" She asked, remembering that the last time she paid Zeresh a surprise visit, there were two men in her room.
Zayla was a woman of one-night stands but stopped when she bumped into Robin again after so many years.
"Just one but he loves threesomes and since I started, I love it too. I know it's not your thing," Zeresh shrugged. Zayla used the opportunity and asked her seriously,
"So, do you still have the stone?" Her palms were already itching to get a hold of it.
"I already sold it," Zeresh said to her disappointment before she continued to say, "It was confirmed to be a Jade, and the money was instantly wired into my boyfriend's account. Isn't this Sabrina's company? I didn't see her anyway but her workers are very competent."
Zeresh had no idea how her honesty made Zayla upset since she was complimenting Sabrina. Zayla hated for anything good to be said about anyone who was not her.
"Well, her father already got everything for her, for which reason it was easy for her to leave Robin," Zayla responded, sending the meaning that Sabrina was just enjoying her father's sweat but her words got Zeresh even more curious since Zayla's father had a company as well.
"But your father has a Company too. Why aren't you managing it? Oh sorry, it went bankrupt," Zeresh recalled, answering her own question. Zayla was both ashamed and miserable.
"That's because we are setting up another one," she lied but not feeling so since it could happen for as long as she laid her hands on the villa.
But then again, Robin told her last night that his money was theirs so she could just withdraw some to pay off her father's investors.
At the thought, Zayla felt better. Whichever way, her best friend did not believe her, feeling that she was just bragging.
"Zayla, we are best friends. No need to lie to me. The news about the investors after your father is everywhere and I'm surprised Robin isn't helping. Is everything alright between you two?" She asked but Zayla felt embarrassed about what had happened this morning.
Still, she could not let her best friend know that. "Of course. This is even his car and driver. How can things be wrong between us?" She laughed awkwardly but Zeresh was still doubtful.
"Then you won't mind buying me lunch, right?" Zeresh asked, expecting Zayla to refuse since she was just testing the truth in Zayla's words but Zayla rather agreed.
"Lunch is nothing. Let's go. Did you come with a car?"
Zeresh shook her head.
"My boyfriend hasn't got a ride but with this money, I'm hoping that we'll get one soon."
Zayla applied make-up to cover her swollen face when she sat in the car and was disappointed to have met her best friend too late. That gemstone would have done a lot for her but anyway, she still had Robin.
The friends arrived at the restaurant and since Zayla was the one paying, Zeresh did not show her mercy.
The restaurant was a costly one and both she and her best friend ordered the most expensive dishes while they continued chatting relentlessly.
When they were done, the waitress came with a bill totaling 2.1k. Zeresh felt guilty and said,
"It's too much. Let's split it."
Zayla wanted to prove that she was still in charge. She used the same card to pay for her mother's food before so it was not a big deal.
"It's okay. I have a card." She removed her black card and gave it to the waitress. The waitress returned and said,
"Sorry ma'am, card declined."
Zayla frowned imperceptibly, "That's impossible. Robin's card can never be declined. Swipe it again."
She planned to sue the waiter for causing her such an embarrassment or to let Robin deal with him but the waiter was already annoyed, saying,
"I did so ten times already. I have the POS terminal here." He swiped it again and explained further, "There are billions on the card but you are only allowed to use $100 a day."
Zayla felt her heavy makeup crack at the news from her deep frown due to the information received.
Something must be wrong somewhere and she had to let Robin handle this including suing the waiter.
"That's not true. You would get fired for spreading such false information."
Zayla picked up her phone and dialed Robin's number. Again, the man refused to answer the phone after Zayla had dialed over seven times and began sweating profusely. The waiter was now impatient,
"Ma'am, are you ready to pay cash?"
