Chapter 177 - Dad, I have the diamonds
"I will be going back so sit down," Robin said emotionlessly while taking a seat on the sofa. 2
Zayla sat on the opposite one and looked at him expectantly since he said that he had a surprise for her.
He was holding a small pack and she wondered what was in there.
All she wanted was for him to propose to her. Robin began to explain, to make it real since Kennedy knew about the history of the diamonds.
"The last time you mentioned the villa, I decided to go and look for the diamonds you mentioned."
Zayla froze. When Robin did not react, she thought that he did not take it seriously, especially when she made it seem as if she was speaking out of duress.
Robin saw how she paled but pretended like he hadn't seen it.
"Did you find it?" She found the courage to ask, hoping that he'd say no. Then she could confirm that she did not mean it when she mentioned it.
Without laying hands on those diamonds, Zayla was doomed since Robin had already reduced the amount for her daily expenditure.
"Yes."
Zayla felt like her world had shut down when Robin continued to say,
"There were indeed pieces of crystal-clear diamonds but my father also added a note to it. Here, read it aloud."
He gave the note to Zayla, who took it with shaky hands and began to read it slowly.
"Robin, by the time you find this, I will be gone. I did not have the time to tell you about it because of your ceaseless affairs with different women."
Zayla paused and swallowed her saliva before she continued reading the note, feeling that the old man was going to reveal the real donor of the kidney.
Her voice began to shake together with her hand holding the paper.
"Are you okay?" Robin asked with the same emotionless glint.
Zayla nodded her head and proceeded to read the letter, lest he took it from her before she could finish it.
"This is a family treasure but I don't think it's worth your life. Give it to the woman who saved your life. She loves you more than anything in the world."
Zayla took a deep breath and breathed out after reading the letter, glad that the name of the woman was not mentioned, which meant that she could still play along without being caught.
Robin was careful to not show the slightest hint that he saw the changes in her expression when he brought out the bottle which looked like the original one with the fake diamonds which also looked like the originals.
Zayla's eyes lit instantly and she felt like her world got brighter. She was thanking her stars that the late old stupid man did not mention a name. If not, she would have been facing Robin's wrath by now.
"Zayla, I wish to thank you for saving my life."
Robin's words cut through her thoughts before her attention returned to him again.
She could not wait to get the diamonds to her father for his business to jolt back to life again.
The content of the letter only boosted her confidence and the content of the bottle gave her life, her whole appearance was radiating with joy.
"This is your reward, and take good care of our child," Robin forced himself to speak softly whiles he dropped the bottle on the center table.
Zayla picked it up instantly, forgetting her pretense and pouring the content on the glass center table.
She began counting them right there and then, Robin shook his head with disgust.
He could not wait to see what happens when she realizes that what she has is fake.
Robin was already headed to the door when Zayla stopped counting the pieces of diamonds and asked him,
"Robin, can I see my father tomorrow? Somebody already bailed him out."
Robin stiffened a little, not knowing that Kennedy had such strong connections for somebody to have bailed him out so quickly.
Robin expected him to sleep there for at least a few days but whoever bailed him out, was now an object of Robin's curiosity.
"That is good news. See, you were not even needed. You should be taking good care of yourself and our unborn child."
Zayla tried to compose herself at Robin's words, still feeling like he would not allow her to see her father but if that be the case, then what would she do with the diamonds, if she remained in the house?
She was about to repeat her question when Robin spoke, "But I'm just curious. Who bailed him?"
Zayla opened her mouth and clamped it shut again. Revealing the person's identity would bring her problems but she also remembered that the person had used a different name.
Still, she could not bring herself to reveal it in case Robin began to investigate it.
"He did not say. The point is, I did not ask. I was just happy that he got out."
"Then you can go and see him but don't spend more than three hours."
Robin knew that she was going to give the fake diamonds to her father, for which reason he allowed it.
Knowing Ken, seeing the diamonds alone would cause him to use whatever money he had before realizing that they were not real.
Robin, could not wait. As he walked through the door, Zayla returned to counting the diamonds while she said behind him,
"Thank you, Robin, I love you very much."
Robin's eyes darkened but he did not respond. As soon as Zayla finished counting the diamonds and confirmed that they were indeed two hundred pieces like her father had said, she picked up her phone and dialed his number, regretting not telling Robin about it earlier.
How could she have known that a miracle would happen in the form of a note that would tell Robin to give the diamonds to his savior?
"Zayla, after neglecting your father, you are calling now? What is it this time?" Kennedy sounded annoyed but his voice changed the moment Zayla responded by saying,
"Dad, I have the diamonds."
